I'm considering getting this. Problem is, I'm having a VERY hard time getting my Wii online, so...
Is this item worth US $39.99? |

I'd say get a cheap router, because it's a multi-purpose device. But if you're strictly using the internet for a Wii/DS, go ahead and buy the adapter. |

I have one. It works, but it takes a bit of firewall tweaking to work it. |

If you're considering it, don't get it. I have one, and it was NOT worth the money. It comes with a puny USB cord, and it has to be a certain distance away from the computer to work properly. Unless you want to hold it in midair while playing, or tape it to something, don't get it.
Oh, and it randomly drops out in mid-game. Wireless routers are better, even if it's 10x the price.
And it overheats a LOT. |

Yes get it. It was incredibly easy to set up the wi-fi. One click and it was up. And it never overheats for me. |

Overheats?
I'd get it, I guess. It funtions the same as a regular WiFi thingy, but a lot cheaper. |

Even if I only get internet for my Wii when I'm 18 or something, I'm not gonna blow that much money just for that one privilege. I'll talk to my parents first. |

If you plan on making your house wireless (internets) anytime soon then don't bother
Otherwise go for it. |

It kinda depends really. Before the Wii came out and the only Wi-Fi games I had were Animal Crossing and Metroid, I needed a usb connector because the only way I could connect with them otherwise was to switch my internet connection to shared, which made it so my computer couldn't get on the web as a tradeoff. I would have to reinstall my entire internet to get things working again.
Now that I have a Wii, however, I can switch the connection through the internet channel, and it dosen't mess up the Wii's ability to get online, so I can switch it back to default when I'm done playing. That and all the newer games work fine without me messing around with my connection. So it really depends. Look into your internet settings and see if you can find a way to connect your Wii. Otherwise, I do recommend the connector. I advise unplugging it when it's not being used though, it can overheat. |
