OK, I just need to explain this once and for all to people like Tyler...
Super Mario Galaxy: a fun game. Worthy sequel to the Mario 3D games? Debatable.
First off, let me say,
I LIKE THE GAME, BUT IT'S NOT THAT GREAT! SUPER PAPER MARIO IS BETTER! IN MY OPINION!
Now then, let's start with replay value, as Tyler stated. Super Mario Galaxy has barely any. Every star is on a set path. There is no exploration, or challenge, whatsoever. "But teh graphix are so good!" Woop-de-doo, there's nothing to look at but space, anyway. Super Mario 64 was awesome, on the other hand. I still play through it just to explore the worlds. It was filled with wonder. It was so fun just to look around. "Wow, a Bomb-omb war!" Where as Galaxy, "Wow... space..." No backstory whatsoever.
Also, difficulty. Now, games don't have to be hard, but this Galaxy is odd. See, my dad and I used to play Super Mario 64 together. It was fun. We would compete for stars, and share cool stuff we found. He liked it. Now, one day, I'm playing Galaxy, and my dad says it looks framiliar. So, I explain how it's a sequel. Anyway, this game is too... tough is a word I can use... The whole gravity thing is hard to get used to and the black holes are stupid. Me, on the otherhand, wizzed through the game. There are no clever puzzles like Super Paper Mario, just lame, repetative stages and boss fights. There you go, too hard for a casual gamer, too easy for a "hardcore" gamer.
Yeah, it's an awesome game... a 8/10, maybe. But not 10/10. No, 10/10 would be... Super Smash Bros. Melee...
Anyway, live with it, it's my opinion.

There's a reason that the game has Co-Star mode, ya know. To bring hardcore gamers together with the casual gamers, in an experience that is both exhilerating and completely brand-new. It's a whole new way to express communication through gamers. If that's what you're hitting at, then I'm sorry that I have to put up this countermeasure.
And, all in all, can we say that Super Paper Mario was also very linear in level design? And, can we also say that it used many unnecessary features (Bowser, Peach, and Luigi's powers could've easily turned into abilities Mario could've learned, sans double damage. Face it: SPM was really all about Mario testing out a gimmick with one heck of a diologue that makes us go to this site).
And yet, you fail to mention the sheer amazing soundtrack!
While I respect your opinion, I hope you can respect mine, and that we may duel, keyboard to keyboard, to debate the fate of Mario's galaxy. |

Thank you, Ludwig.
But, Co-op mode... yeah, it's so fun shooting stars...
And I respect everyone's opinions, except maybe Tyler's, because like me, you all have free will. I understand that many people like this game, because it's fun, but that doesn't mean I have too. It's like Halo, it's fun, but nothing special.
Tyler, name one loophole. now. I dare you. |

Wait... WHAT THE *crag*?! You said it was LINEAR?! With the ability to choose what stars you collected??? You *crag* noob, I oughta clock you in the face. SPM was WAY more linear! You were forced to do certain levels in a path! |

But Galaxy is a 3-D game. I'm not talking about which levels you pick, but the stages themselves. |

Linear in Level-Design, Tyler.
I still say, though, that this game is much less linear and much less dumb than Super Mario Sunshine. While SMS, admittedly, had more to explore, out went the gameplay elements. And really, which would you like more? Innovative gameplay, or great free-roaming with mediocre gameplay?
And thanks for being able to respect another person's opinion! I've spent too much time arguing on the Gamefaqs Brawl message boards of why Ridley can be in, why K. Rool isn't a clone of Bowser, and who the *crag* Lolo is. |

Yeah, that's the reason I hate Smash Boards. Morons can't deal with the fact that your opinion is different then their's. Tyler reminds me of them, lol. How am I a noob? Because my opinion is different? You don't see me flaming you. Also, Lolo FTW! |

Ah, now FINALLY someone besides Lolo_Guru agrees with me.
But, back to the matter at hand, I personally can't stand free roaming! I'm the person who enjoys immediate action, and lots of it. I guess that's why I'm such a huge fan of the Super Mario Bros and Donkey Kong Country series - straight action, good music, great fun. |

Free-roaming seems awesome, but it gets annoying in some games. I can't think of an example, lol...
BTW, you are the only person I know who respects others opinions! I'm considering you my friend now, like it or not, lol! XD |

That's fine. I enjoy friendship...everyone I know IRL is a moron, sadly, so I've actually grown to listen a bit and respond.
And I fully understand what you're saying! For some reason, I can spend about 20 minutes running around Peach's Castle in Super Mario 64, but can't stand moving anywhere where action isn't in Donkey Kong Country 3, or World of Warcraft. |

That was a well thought out explanation.SMG is fun to replay once or twice, but SPM has alot of things to experiment with after the game. The only problem I have with SPM is boss replayability,or playing against bosses again.Other than that, the game is fun. |

Something is obviously wrong here... I'm having more fun with this game than I ever had with 64. Maybe after you played 64 the magic just ended for you. Galaxy has so many fine replayability qualities, and one of the best of those is how small the missions are. Gotta go somewhere? Squeeze in a star or two. I still go back to galaxies and screw around... if you know the right string of moves, you can go almost anywhere. If you don't like Galaxy, I'm surprised you even call yourself a Mario fan... |

I love Mario games, have a Mario plushie, Bowser plushie, Limited Edition Mario Action Figure, Toad figurine, and I'm a member of Mario Wiki. I created the Outer Space page! OK, so you like Galaxy more than 64. That's fine, I just think differently.
Also, exactly what Mister I said, it's fun just to run around Peach's Castle. It was so... cool. Galaxy just has hop from mini-planet to mini-planet. But yeah, some games are better without that.
And thank you, Informer. |
