My opinion about FFXII changed several times before its release. I knew that it wasn't going to be bad; none of the numbered Final Fantasy titles were bad. It's just that my opinion changed, shifting between "this is going to be good" and "this is going to be disappointing." Well, when it finally came out, my opinion was a little of both. The world of FFXII was expansive and had plenty of stuff to do; it probably had the most side-content out of any of the Final Fantasy titles. Which is great. However, the plot, setting and characters were sort of disappointing. Those were supposed to be its strong points, as well; however, it turned out that it did not out-do the greatness of the PS1-era masterpieces. It turned out to be a great game by general game standards, but not excellent when compared to the rest of the series.

Now, with Final Fantasy XII out of the way, a new Final Fantasy compilation is about to appear on the Playstation 3 and cell phone. At first, I hated the idea- the Final Fantasy VII compilation was a massive disappointment for me, a fan of the original title. FFX-2 was no good, in my opinion, and now there's a whole mini-series of new titles being announced. Yeah, that's what I thought at first, until I learned a bit more about the titles. Now, I'm looking forward to them with great anticipation. Here, you have Final Fantasy XIII- the "central" title of this mini-series- starring a woman known as "Lightning" rebelling against a futuristic, seemingly theocratic government. We also have "Final Fantasy Versus XIII", which is shaping up to be a dark epic unlike anything the series has seen. They are both shaping up to be excellent games; better than FFXII.

There's also this cell phone game called "FFXIII Agito", but I really don't care about that one.

So, anyway, let's discuss. Are you looking forward to this mini-series? Which title out of the compilation are you looking forward to the most? Will this out-do the greatness established by previous titles in the series, or not?

Oh, and here's some videos of the titles.

You're really obsessive with that series. granted, there are much worse series to obsessive about.

I happen to enjoy teh FF series, and upon being in dire need of a portable game about 7 months ago, I turned to FFIII DS, teh first FF game I'd played since VII, which was my first. that's right, I've only played 2 FF games, so sue me.

It's a great series, although it's not particularly phenomenal. however you spell that. >_<

and it's gotta be the longest running series that hasn't stopped just tacking numbers on to the end when dealing with a title.

It doesn't matter what series one is obsessed with. If one is obsessed with a series, one is obsessed; it is hard to measure how bad an obsession can be. In reality, there really is no difference from a Final Fantasy fanatic to a Zelda fanatic to a Mario fanatic. They're all the same, in the end.

Of course, I wouldn't call myself obsessive over the series. I just hold a high opinion about it, similiar to how I feel about Zelda.

There's really no need to add in a fancy title. If they did that with every installment, the titles would eventually end up cheesy or cliche.

1. I meant the FF series is a good series. there are a lot of series that I personally hate that are very popular. actually, as a series, I'd probably say it's just Halo. god I hate Halo. moving on...

2.true. it was more of a weird fact than a complaint.

Edit: and you deleted your post, causing me to lose coins. -_-'

Pure! How can you not call FF phenomenal! The originals set the standard for what all RPGs where to become. Why, without the first Square would have gone have gone bankrupt and not become the multi-million dollar publisher they are today! Why, a world without Square? Unthinkable!

Anyway yeah, they look good. Put that next to the next Kingdom Hearts and I'm ready to buy a PS3 just for those.

great? yes.

phenomenal, which for me means OMFG I MUST OWN ENTIRE SERIES OR ELSE HEAD WILL EXPLODE(somehting that has yet to happen for me, sadly)? no.

They're still probably me among my fave RPGs. along with Live-a-Live. which is, indeed, made by square. and that was not an attempt to draw attention to teh LP. Shifty

I want people to post in that. D:

You can't appeal to everyone's taste, and you can't make a series of games and have them all perfect. If it stays the same, it gets called unoriginal. If it changes too much it is unfaithful to the original. This not possible.

Your are, of course, correct. The greatest things have a tendancy to be impossible, don't they?

Personally, Flavio hasn't found any of the Final Fantasys to be up to standards after FFVI. Though, Flavio doesn't feel like doing a rant at the moment, so let's just leave it at that, shall we?

Flavio has bad standards then as in my opinion IX was superb. It brought back both old characters as well as having a more retro feel to the gameplay. A true classic.

No game after FF6 managed to be better than this one in my opinion.
FF9 came close, but it still isn't as great as FF6.
