The most redeeming quality to Galaxy, I thought, was the drama it builds. One second, you're cruising along in the nice forests of the Gold Leaf Galaxy, and the next, you're blasting through them, racing a creepy version of yourself through a test of near-perfection. Next destination? Top of the tree to destroy an evil mole who is causing a terrential downpour. And then where do we go?
Why not the Melty Molten galaxy, where evil Lava Bubbles lunge from the depths of a magma river to draw unlucky plumbers in, all the while trying to shoot from the center of an erupting volcano, with a hectic orchestra urging you to never stop moving...
THAT is the ambition of Super Mario Galaxy: a rapid-fire adventure through every kind of terrain imaginable! Of course, we didn't really see a Giant World...
I'd say that I really couldn't reccomend Super Mario Galaxy to fans of Super Mario 64. It's like comparing Super Mario Bros 3 to Super Mario Bros: they SHOULD be the same game, they HAVE the same series name, and one is a direct sequal to the other, so it should be the same. But Super Mario Bros 3...just FEELS different. It's like an epic quest, instead of what feels like an arcade speed-run that you'd get from Super Mario Bros.
I suppose that only Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World could compare to each-other in actuality. Each Mario game is served with a brand new flavor, take it or leave it. |

Galaxy is fun, and so is Super Mario 64.
Really though, I don't think Galaxy is the sequel, it just seems like it is. I think differently.
Personally I think Super Paper Mario is better than both of them, although non re-fight-able bosses was a bit annoying.
And that the Pit of 100 Trails chests didn't restock. |

Agreed completely, except it's not too hard for casual players. Too easy for 'em if ya ask me. |
