Rename RPOT to Casual Role-Playing and decrease spam there, but NO to Dump 2.0 and alts in OT. Alts should be for RP purposes only.

Classic Digibutter will never work anymore, and it's a good thing because it makes the site a cliche' that only some people will find interesting limiting the growth of the site. We don't need to try and reinvigorate it with a Casual RP forum. RP is fine if you people would just use it.
If you post your RP in Role-Playing, it gets almost no responses. If you post your RP in RPOT, it sinks beneath waves of spam. RPOT is the only place you can go if you want to be in-character, and post threads that aren't actual RPs. Yet the place is overflowing with spam and misused alts. I'm simply suggesting we give the place a name change so people don't think of it as a second Off-Topic when it isn't, and give people a place to "misuse" alts.

Yeah. Because it cost bandwith, people flamed and created a bunch of [M] threads, people posted both normal topics and spam there, and people took it way too seriously. The Dump 2.0 will cost hardly any bandwith because topics get deleted every 2 days, people won't take it way too seriously because you'll have to be in the Usergroup or whatever for it, and you can actually post unfitting topics in Off-Topic without it being filled with spam posts, and don't have to sift through a ton of spam to reach a decent topic.

I've stated multiple times how this would help Digibutter, yet you just ignore my points and say "there's a reason there's no longer a Dump" or something stupid and easily counterable. Contrary to what you once said about verbal combat being you "forte" or whatever, you suck at it.

Not only that, but you really don't deserve to be a mod. You flame, you spam, you lock unnecessary threads, you strike and threaten to strike people because they annoy you or question your authority, you refuse to moderate a certain area of the site because it's filled with spam that you should be deleting, locking, etc. You oppose pretty much anything that would actually help digibutter, because you're too busy plotting on how to annoy the hell out of people, and how to make yourself look like you're against spam yet still managing to spam every now and then. You're probably the worst mod I've ever seen on any site ever. Hell, you're worse than most of the people you strike. The only reason I ever took your side on anything is because I thought people were overreacting about you, and because they flat-out sucked at arguing, even more than you do.

I understand what you're saying, Ulti, and I respect your opinion.

However, making a spam forum would essentially divide the forum in half. There would be the half that spams and the half that uses the rest of the forum. It's not that I don't like the dump, but it's the fear that by "downgrading" it, as you've suggested, the other forums will slowly empty out and die. Is it probable? Not really. Is it possible? Yes. Is it more possible than something ridiculous, like George Bush joining a family of dolphins? Yes. Is it more possible than something unlikely, like Donkey Kong Country 4, or Banjo-Threeie on the Wii? Yes.

And where will the new members who don't seem like spammers at first go? Straight to the most popular area.

I'm sorry, but Casual Role-Play just doesn't seem like the best addition to me, mostly because it's not a necessary component.

In the end, however, I suppose the brunt of the blame goes on us: the moderators. I know that TSSG3 and usually Popple do their share, but...admittedly, the rest of us mods are really lazy on spam. I'm not trying to point fingers (especially since most of them point back to myself), but we simply don't do enough, and can't find an agreeable boarderline for spam. Honestly, if we cracked down a bit harder, then none of this would really be necessary.

I know I can't get you to change your opinion, and you know you probably can't change mine. But, would this be an acceptable solution to you?

While I still think Casual Role-Playing is a good idea, and pretty much needed, I can see how Dump 2.0 could be a bad idea. Off-Topic is practically a spam forum by now, flooding is pretty common, and a topic almost never reaches 10 posts without some pointless post like "I have a singed eyebrow". It would probably help to create a forum where spam actually is allowed, but it could turn out bad. It's hard to tell.

But still, that problem can simply be solved by better moderation, like you said. But we have only about 6 mods now, and it's common for none to be online for hours at a time. And our mods aren't the highest quality, either. Most just don't lock or strike unless the spam is either outside of the Off-Topics or is obviously spam (Like metroid boy's threads). Some mods will even refuse to moderate RPOT. One mod even flames people and recently created a spam thread in Feedback. The only problem with getting more mods is finding quality members deserving of modship. Almost everybody has spammed in Off-Topic at some time. Almost everybody has a strike. Even the members who look like quality members might turn into a flamer/spammer later in their life or abuse their powers if they became a mod.

I think I'm the most out-of-touch member ever. Honestly, I rarely post annoying comments, avoid OT like the plague, and really am not in touch with the world. I haven't ever got a strike, but I've only given out a grand total of two.

Yeah...I need to step it up, and I suppose I could try on RPOT. Smile
