What's this? What's this?!
Okay, I know that everyone probably got this game because Mario and Sonic are in the same game at long last, but the OLYMPICS?!

...

Yes, yes... Bowser and Robotnik on trampolines are hilarious, but still...

Fanfare
The music is good. I really like the theme played at the main menu. In fact, I'm listening to it as I type this. Very triumphant.

Crowd gets very annoying very fast, though. Its just the same two or three seconds looping over and over again.

I wish I could shoot them in Skeet... T-T

The music played at the awards ceremony reminds me of "Daisy, Daisy, Give me your answer do..." for some reason... o_o;

Let's have a looksie.
Graphics are pretty standard for a Wii-game. I mean, its nothing too special but nothing too bad. It was hilarious to see Robotnik and Bowser trying to keep up with Sonic...

Plot, what plot?
There is no plot given. I mean, do you need one? Nope. Its just the Mario characters and the Sonic characters at the Olympics.

Gameplay

Single Match
Let's start things off with the first selection, shall we?

I'm gonna make a break for it.
Anyway, this section deals with Track and Field.

Track... I'll just talk about one of the modes. We'll go with 110m Hurdles.

We need speed for this, so we have Sonic, Daisy, Shadow, and Yoshi to choose from. ... I didn't realize that Daisy was a speedy character, but oh well. I'll choose... Sonic, since he would logically be the best.

Controls are simple. You use the Wiimote and the Nunchuck. At the start, you hold b and swing the remote as you release the button at "GO!". Then, you 'jog' the Wiimote and the Nunchuck. At every hurdle, you hit B. Actually, you can also use just the Wiimote. But I'll go with that, since I don't want both arms sore again...

Okay, I screwed up. Redo!

Well, I suck. Even EGGMAN beat me. As Sonic!

I'm guessing someone stuffed Slow-Down shoes on the feet of the Sonic Characters (except Eggman), since they are running at more or less the same speed as the slowpokes from Mario's world.

So, initially, Track is confusing.

Now we'll go to Field. Hmm... Hammer Throw sounds like fun! Let's try that!

Now, we all know that throwing things requires power, so we'll choose a Power Type. We have Knuckles, Bowser, Vector (no Computer Room jokes), and Wario.

I'm choosing Bowser. Hey, he's strong enough to survive a Mario-delivered Shell-kicking, so why not? Ooookay... It sounds like he is trying to cough up some mucus, but let's get back to the subject at hand.

Controls are much more simpler here. Just the Wiimote, this time. Its held vertically, hit a, and then you sort of wave it around in the air like some sort of fairy wand. You throw it with B and watch it fly.

Oooooh... Hit the gate. Let's try again. Got it out, but it was a fowl... Bummer. Fell too short, I guess. Farther, but only got it up to 46.828. Let's try this again, now that I got the hang of it- WAIT A MINUTE! How did SONIC get the farthest?! And Peach beat everyone to the top-half?

Trying again... 42.162. Way too short. This time, Luigi got the highest at try one. 53.776. Still too short to get past even Eggman. Okay, obviously POWER is not the best choice for Hammer Throw. Let's try someone from Speed, since Speed and All Around got the higher ranks...

Wow... I must just be bad at this... And why is Sonic cheering when he keeps getting 8th place? o_o; WHOA! I just got it up to 70.868m! That brought me up to Bronze! And the Wario Brothers beat me, huh...

I will not jump for joy.
Okay, currently only have Trampoline so we'll go with that. ... Heheh... I am SO tempted to pull out Bowser or Robotnik and watch them suffer. But... Characters... Hmm...

Trampolines... You don't really think of people using them in Olympic games... Well, gymnastics require balance and skill, so we'll go with one of them.

In All-Around, we have Mario, Amy, Luigi, and Blaze. In Skill, we have Peach, Tails, Waluigi and... Robotnik?! O...kay... I'll just go and pick Blaze, since she's the best out of the All-Arounds.

Controls here are just the Wiimote. You just jerk it up to get off the mat and, after you get high enough in mid-air, you start to hit certain buttons as you descend. A, B, or you turn the Wiimote left or right. Sounds easy enough.

Whoa... That was easy. I got a 9.431 at my first try. How? I messed up a couple hits, but otherwise did okay. Let's see who... got... Silver and Bronze... ... How did WARIO get ANY medal?! The fatso got Bronze! Tails, though, got Silver.

Duck Hunt 2: Now its Personal!
Skeet. Okay... Characters with Guns... Shooting flying discs.. I know I'm gonna fail this, since my aim is always off. Eh, I'll just go with Mii. Mii with gun. And its a Me Mii. Me Mii. Mimi. Mimimimimi... xD

Okay, controls. Point the Wiimote and shoot as many discs as you can and hit B.

Aaaaand I failed. I got 13 disks while the guy at 7th got 14. Tails, the winner of Gold, got 35.

Bleh...

Swimming... Well, its time to drown!
Let's just go with the 100m Freestyle. Swimming takes skill, but also speed and power, so I'll just pick an All Around. Blaze again.

Controls are once again Wiimote and Nunchuck, but you have the option of using just the Wiimote. Like in the Track games, you hold B till GO! is annonuced for extra speed. And, once again, you swing at Go!. Then on, you shake the Wiimote and Nunchuck for swimming. You get a different swim depending on how you move. Crawl is Forward/backwards alternately. Breaststroke is left/right alternately. Butterfly is both controls are up and down at the same time. Dog paddle is up and down alternately while Crocodile paddle is left/right in the same motion. Stamana plays a big part here, so keep an eye on that bar! And to turn as you reach the other side, you jerk the Wiimote up.

Well, I failed this too. Even Eggman beat me here. Ah well... Oddly enough, SHADOW won first place. Not surprisingly, Bowser was just above me at 7th.

En Guarde!
Looks like we have something truly fun. Fencing! There's just one option: Individual epee.

Speed and skill are best here, but I'll go with Speed. Daisy is the most well rounded of the Speed type, so I'll go with her. OH THANK GOD! She didn't cry out "Hi! I'm Daisy!"

Controls are Wiimote and Nunchucks, or if you wish just the Nunchuck. The point (pun not intended) is to touch your opponent fifteen times, You can parry and feint to help you on your way to victory! You use the Nunchuck's joystick to move forward and back and to lunge, you thust the Wiimote forward. To parry, you hold an and swing the Wiimote. Be careful that you don't do it too soon, or your opponent will hit! To feint, you hit B. This is done to make an opponent's parry miss. With just the Wiimote, you use the arrow-pad instead to move.

Let's get started! Daisy VS Tails. After that match, the victor with fight either Amy or Knuckles. ... Odd...

It was pretty easy. I got hit 5 times, I hit 15 times. The timer (3 minutes) did not run out before I won. Now I face Knuckles...

Well, he was better. He got 5 hits in at the start, I got 2. Then I started parring and backing away, but he won in the end. 6 to 15. Silver Medal is mine.

Break time.
I'm taking a break. In the meanwhile, I'll listen to some music... Mmm.... I love that Main Menu tune...

Aaaaaand we're back.

Pong 3D!
Table Tennis. A classic. There's currently Singles, so we'll go with that.

Character... Well, when it comes to the game, what do you think would win? Strength, Skill, and Power. A mixture of the three... So, we'll go with All-Around with this. Mario, this time, for a little diversity.

Here, you just use the Wiimote. Its held vertically and you have to get 11 points to win. Odd, I expected 10. Anyway, to serve, you jerk it up and swing the sucker sideways. After that, its just a matter of swinging the Wiimote to the side to send the ball back to your opponent. Chopping the ball is... well, I'm not sure. I'll try it out when I'm playing, but you swing up and down or hold a while swinging sideways. Apparently, it sends the ball back at really fast speed. Smashing, oh I know what that is, is done by holding b and swinging.

Let's play! Okay. Mario VS Yoshi. Then its one of the Wario Brothers. Well, I lost. Yoshi got 6 points in before I got one. And then he got another. And then me. And then him. And then me twice, but he won in the end... Oooh. Now I face Waluigi. I am NOT going without a medal! ]_[;

So far so good this time. Had to put it on pause to discuss dinner. Currently 4 to 2, my favor. Paused again to give my arm a rest. Whoo! He almost had me, but I caught up to him. Currently 8 to 9. Two more balls and I win! Bronze, yes, but better than nothing...

Back on target
Fell asleep after taking a break. But let's go check cout Circuit Mode. Hmm.. Beginner's Class, naturally...

Beginner's Class has four out of five choices. The fifth is currently closed. Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn. Mercury as 100m Dash, Long Jump, and Hammer Throw. Venus has 110m Hurdles, Skeet, and Javelin Throw. Jupiter has 100m Freestyle, Triple Jump, and Trampoline. Saturn has Single Table-top Tennis, 4x100m Freestyle (which is basically the 100m Freestyle Swimming, but you have 4 laps), and Individual Epee. I'll go try out Jupiter.

Characters. Due to the whole 'three games in one' idea, this means I should choose accordingly. Well, since I'll be swimming, jumping, and jumping, I'd need an All-Around. Time to crack out Blaze.

First Round: 100m Freestyle. Same basic idea as before. OW! ...! I won! Kickass! 00.52.947 is my time. My arms hurt, but I made it. 20 points for me. Peach is at 2nd with Bowser at 3rd.

Second Round: Triple Jump Since I didn't go for this earlier, I'll check out the controls. Hmm... Only both the Wiimote and the nunchucks here.

Controls... Okay, you build up speed and then jump three times for distance. The place you land at the final time is your point. Speed, jump timing, and strength are major things, so Speed and Power rule here. Supposedly... Hmm... At the Athlete introduction, you draw applause by 'clapping' the controllers. Not sure why, but I'll give it a shot...

HERE we go. You jog the remotes as fast as you can. When it says "Speed Locked", stop jogging. Before takeoff, jerk the Wiimote to hop. Then the Nunchuck to step, and then the Wiimote to jump.

Messed it up. Try two. Fowl again. Take three... GAH! I suck at this! Eggman and Bowser are just above me. Yoshi, Luigi, and then Mario are at the top. Huh... I'm still at the top of the circut! Yes! I can redeem myself if I do good in the last round!

Final Round: Trampoline
Remember this baby? I'll do great here!

Okay, I messed up a little... Got a 9.078, though. Still in first! Yes! And I'm still at the top rank! Mario's at Second with... BOWSER AT THIRD! Lucky Koopa.

We're on a Mission from God.
Couldn't resist that. xD

Character Select - I'll go for Blaze again.

Select Mission... Hmm... I have 4x100m Freestyle, Triple Jump, and 110m Hurdles. Huh... I'll go with... the Hurdles.

Beat your Rival!
Finish before Peach! Your overall place doesn't matter.

...

Eep.

Startled a little soon, but... God! I almost didn't make it past the Princess! Got a gold star for that. I wonder what happened when the other games are beaten. Or how to unlock them... Perhaps I have to play the other games a certain number of times or beat them all to unlock more?

Gallery
I opened up the book titled About Athletes and... Well, this is interesting. To be able to read the information you need to play games to get the information. If you get a certain score, you get the information and unlock the next book.

About Athletes
This has a game called 'Bound Ball', which is basically a game in which you tilt the Wiimote from one side to another to bounce the balls into the appointed boxes.

Be careful. Level 2 has Bomb-ombs.

Ancient Olympic Games

The name of the game is Whack-a-Mole. Hold the right or left button on the Wiimote to move the hammer and swing it down to hit the Goombas. Hmm... Personally, it would had been funny if you were whacking Whackas (see Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door).

Level 2 has those monkeys from Sonic. Apparently, you have to hit THEM too. They're fast little buggers, though...

Beijing 2008
Card Games here.

Shuffle Lvl. 1. "Watch the cards as they're shuffled and point at the one card with a different picture!" Hmm... So its basically Memory and 'What's wrong here'? Hmm... Pretty easy, but as you go along, it speeds up. I got 12 in level one, where I needed just 5.

Level 2 requires that you find pairs. So this one is actually Memory.

Oops
Forgot to update this as I went along.

Well, the Gallery games can be tricky at times, but they're more or less easy to beat. And the music is fun to listen to.

I unlocked 'Dream Race' last night. Its loads of fun! I swear, its like a cross between Sonic R and the Mario Kart series! Basically, its like Track with the occasional obstacle. BUT you can use Koopa Shells and Boos on your enemies, Power Stars or Speed Shoes on yourself, or (Mario Kart vets will recognize this...) lightening bolt your foes. Sadly, it doesn't shrink them... There's sand-slicks and some of Robotnik's robots in the way as well as a couple hurdles.

I love the Dream Race.

Overall...
I like the game. When I first picked it up, I was ready for disappointment, but as I played it, I came to love it. Sure, there's some things I don't like since I'm bad at (*cough*Skeet*cough*), but I'm not letting it deter me.

However, the CPU is a total cheat. It has the characters' places set at random rather than according to their stats. I mean, if you have read this in full rather than just skipping to the end, you'll know what I mean.

Gameplay's great, but I need to get better with my aiming. And the Computer-controlled characters are random rather than skilled.
Graphics are pretty standard.
Sound is good. But the crowd's annoying.
I give this game a 8 out of 10.

Ofcourse, you sucked at fencing, and table tennis, so you may not be able to handle them. Anyway, my first skeet was suckish, and I lost alot of my first things, but I won my first swimming. Hell that one is easiest to get a WR on.

I agree with your review, and I also suck at the game... I can't get the darn World Record at the Triple Jump... It's the only Track & Field Event where that happens.
