During school today, I had an enlightenment. Caused by a mixture of boredom and a project that I really don't want to do.
Here it is: Teachers hold no power.
Yes. They threaten you with their "low grades on assignments" and crap. I see grades now as a useless mixture of letters and numbers. Does a person's intelligence get determined by such a trivial thing? NO. IT IS NOT. I'm smart. If I get low grades, big deal, I'm not an idiot. I'M STILL JUST AS SMART. Colleges and such shouldn't look at just letters and numbers. They should look for the true intelligence among people. Now I present another point: What is the worth of projects and notes? Why grade them? Children go to school to learn, not to do projects. The projects don't help learning, though they may help peers, but shouldn't they learn on their own or by teacher, not by other classmate? Also, grading a student's note taking skill and style is STUPID. Not everyone works the same way, and they can't be forced to change that.
Now you see why I'm starting to hate school. I'm sure I'd be given detention if I actually said all this in the middle of class. Violating my first amendment's rights, I might add. But let other people know about this, don't just keep it to yourself. SPREAD THE WORD!

You're just now figuring this out?

I realized this sometime in the 3rd grade.

It's common to get changes of view among these lines.

The thing is, some colleges/universities/etc. won't let you even do the mock test if you had low grades. And having low grades also cripples your ability to get a job later on.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. If I get low grades, I wouldn't be any dumber at all. There's no reason to actually look at grades, only true intelligence.

That's not my point.

My point is, if you get good grades, you brag about it when you apply for a job, and you have more chances to get it. Mostly they know if you have low grades, and you rarely ever get the job if you have low grades and they know it.

I agree 9001%. I see no use for homework. Sure, I'm fine with reading and listening to the teacher, maybe even watching a video or presentation, because in most cases, they actually teach me things. I learn nothing from homework, except for the fact it's just a waste of time. Why should we be graded on intelligence, anyways? Not everyone is a genious, and people have skills in different things. I'm pretty sure you won't need to be a genious in History if all you want to do is become, say...a clothing designer. Right?

Grades and homework and stuff are also things to discipline people.

Simply being the devil's advocate. I would think that projects are mostly used to get communications and coordination done for the workforce. School isn't there to educate you, it's there to expose you to as many subjects as possible. High grades tend to indicate hard workers, workers who even accomplish the mundane. Employers want workers who will actually do something, not someone who will blow it off because they think it is stupid. It is a long term thing, not instant gratification.

youmentioned projects not being important. the thing is, jobs are made up entirely of projects.if you can't do them, you're screwed.

And besides, what do you think they should do? engage every idividual student in a conversation to see how intelligent they are?

You know what I find absolutely pathetic? The school districts always focus on the lower-achieving students in the realm of education so they can live strong, healthy lives as 6-child parents that work at McDonalds, and ignore those with true intelligents.

I only do 1/5 of my homework and have basically the worst organizational skills ever (my binder is basically 140 pages crammed together randomly with two notebooks to balance out the sandwhich), and last simester, I only got a B+ in one class (because I was absent for three assignemnts I forgot). The rest were straight A's.

Ever since 3rd Grade, I lost my organizational skills and decided to get through school on smarts alone...smarts that are more than a few of my teachers. I'm basically the most intelligent being in the school, and yet I'm being taught at the same level as a failing student.

Maybe it's because I only need something told to me once and I actually GET it, but I see about as much point in doing homework as slapping myself for every right answer I get on a test (i.e. that's a lot).

Oddly enough, the one time I DID use a study guide on a test, I DIDN'T get an A. Laughing

Mister I, I have exactly the same problem. The schooling system is made for 20 IQ points below average. It's unfortunate that intelligent people have to be dragged along. If you really feel like learning something, we have the internet, in some places, and various libraries. I ca tell you that you will probably be better off self-taught.
