2001: The first iPods were released to the world. A whole new revolution of electric drills first brought on by Apple. No more did people feel the need to replace drill bits in the twenty-first century. We wanted a new era of electric drilling, and this is what it was. The iPod. The new digital powerdrill revolution. Drill bits can now be downloaded from your computer to your iPod to make the seemingly impossible task of finding drill bits as easy as waking up in the morning. But it only did so much. It drilled, clockwise and counterclockwise, but that was about it. Big fans of the device began cracking it open, seeing what made such a remarkable device tick. Once they knew the iPod outside and in, they began to expand its features.

Come the beginning of 2002, people could make their iPod take on the role of the hammer, the saw, and even the really really big drills. IPod sales were driven by the popularity of homemade hacks and modifications. With all the user created software out there the digital powerdrill was now the only tool you needed in your toolbox. Hell, you didn't even need a toolbox! The iPod's handy "Tool Search" function organized your array of bits and pieces like a never-ending file cabinet. It was the universal workhorse of the Do-It-Yourselfer. Some even pushed the boundaries of the device, allowing it to do well beyond what it was supposed to. Apple's product took pictures, called home, bought tickets for the game, and so on. However, the fun that was to be had in the future was limited. Come April 2003, the third generation of iPods did not support the vast amount of hacks and mods that made the portable drill so famous. Expansions from the Apple wesbite were up for purchase, adding mediocre features as "counter-counterclockwise rotation" and "overdrive mode" but they didn't add to the fun of the original iPod. Advanced hackers theorized ways to get in the new generation of iPods, but with each executed plan came the corruption of each iPod's drilling software. It seems as though Apple had really upset their fans.

My grandfather had been working with Apple for eighty five years until the day of his death in about three days. A knowledgeable and hard-working individual, he passed on everything he knew about Apple Corporation to me. I used this knowledge to my best advantage. I wanted to bring the iPod back to its former glory. After years of research, I have been able to hack the iPod to do something revolutionary: playback music. "You're crazy!" they said, "Absolutely crazy." But no, I was determined. I was going to create the first portable digital music playback device. It took years of research and many hundreds of dollars spent on iPods as guinea pigs for my experimentation, but I turned Apple's drill into something fantastic and all of you members of iPodLinux forums are going to hear it for the very first time. In this topic, I will show you how to revolutionize your iPod.

Firstly, bypassing iPod's firmware is a doozy. It's protected by special coding that acts as a bodyguard for the source code. This was the most painstaking process of my research, and luckily I have coded a program for you all that automatically does this, saving YOU the two-year hassle of bypassing the firmware's protection. You can download it here. It's a three gigabyte download so for all of you with the nano version iPods are going to have to sacrifice some serious drill bit space. It is definitely worth it though, trust me. Now, with my program you're going to need to do some work. Plug in your iPod and allow Windows Explorer to view hidden files when in the iPod's folder. A file called "CD092854" should show up. Open up my program and find my file for use on the program. The next few minutes it should be removing the security coding from the firmware, again allowing the iPod to be hacked. Once it's finished, click the "Edit Code" button. You should now be seeing a box with tons of coding bullcrap in there. It looks like a headache, but just ignore all that extra code. Just add the following to the bottom of the window.

Code:
Code:
|\/|@|<3 |\/|`/ 1|*0[) |*|@`/ |\/||_|$1(

Be sure to save your settings and disconnect safely. There you have it! I have single-handedly brought back the iPod, and I was compelled to show it to the nice folks at iPodLinux forums first. Thank you very much for reading! You have no idea how important this is to me! Below are some pictures.

iPod before - Drill Mode (Current Mode: Counter-Clockwise Rotation)

iPod after - Music Mode

Pat
