Basically you mail them your game, and then they mail you a new one that has audio in stereo and surround sound. It sucks that you have to be without your game for a while though  It would have been nice if they had included some bonus content for our trouble.
UPDATE:You now have until August 31, 2008 and you get a free GHIII faceplate in addition to the remastered disc.

The other option is to get a refund which requires mailing the game and guitar to them, and they will send you $132 (game + shipping)

I'm getting the full refund... My guitar's screwed up as well (the yellow and blue fret buttons are constantly sticking and staying held in...), so this really helps. |

As per the settlement, Activision's replacement program will extend until August 31, 2008, and grant all purchasers who submit a valid replacement request a free GHIII faceplate in addition to a remastered disc. Further, Activision can longer manufacture the offending edition of GHIII. The reached agreement encompass games sold in the US only. |

Aw crap. I just got the remastered disc back and I could've gotten a free faceplate... Is there a way for me to get just the plate? |

Don't worry about getting your faceplate. I got the faceplate by complete surprise like a month after I got my replacement disc (I hadn't even heard of getting a faceplate, so it was a nice surpise). It's really cool-looking though.
If you want to know what it looks like before you get it:
It's red with a bunch of designs and a giant phoenix in the background. MAN is it cool looking!
