Recently on Destructoid: It is announced that Mario Kart Wii will not have voicechat but text chat, and that was later corrected to say that it'll, after the newest press release, feature a set of prerecorded phrases such as "Let's race !". And already a hot debate had erupted, pro / con voice chat in Mario Kart Wii.

One side (Side A):
Voice chat should be everywhere, Nintendo just does that to avoid the "DS AND WII WILL GIVE PEDOS ACCESS TO YOUR CHILLUNS" issue that had got to them like a ReDead in Castle Town "biting" Link, it should also be in Brawl

Other Side (Side B):
Why ? It doesn't make sense. Yes, those stock phrases are retarded, but it's a CARD KART GAME for f*cks sake.

I personally count myself to Side B. It's a childrens card kart game. In games like Halo or MMORPGs where you have to cooperate to survive and not be made Team Cannonfodder, it makes sense to let players communicate quickly.
In a Beat 'Em Up or a Kart Game, it does not. There is no strategy element to the game aside from maybe "use the item now or later" or "use the shortcut which requires a dangerous jump"

I don't see the point of voicechat in non-strategy games, because mostly it's abused by pubescent 13 year-old boys that feel oh so big tough and manly and need to unload their balls over oh how much you suck, your mother is a whore, you are a "nigga" and your whole family regularly practices bestiality with goats which probably lead to your specific physical characteristics.

Whilst voicechat does add a sort of Dimension to the game, as you know that you play against a human, not a machine, the end doesn't jsutify the means in there. Even with a mute-feature, you'd need to buy unnecessary hardware (leaving out the disastrous third party bandwagon hardware problems to come), use up bandwiths that could make the game less laggy and have to listen to your teams complaints still ,even if tyou muted those annoyinf *crag*wads.

Your opinion ?

I have to agree with side B too. Those people on side A are just a bunch of whiners. Just because the game's online doesn't mean it HAS to have a voice chat.

When you have voice chat, it adds depth to the online experience. I'm not whining without it, but I want it.

Good voiced argument - I think people want the feeling of depth, of an actual person there. Shame just most of those actual persons are actual arseholes who feel oh so manly because you don't know and don't see them.

Call me crazy, but I'm one of those people who likes to make friends in game. It may be insane but, if someone is playing the game you like it probably means they like it too and wouldn't mind playing a few rounds with you. Voice chat is the quickest and most effective means on communication in game, and that is one of the many reasons I do not play any Nintendo games online.

The problem is that mankind is a bunch of tossers that will find an ingenious way to abuse that for really stupid and / or wrong causes.

If they'd use those brains for, I dunno, science instead of being a bunch of dicks, then we'd have a cure for cancer by now.

I'm going to stick with side B. I would prefer not to get cussed out by some immature kid who is extremely skilled because they play the game for 90% of their life or who is not skilled at all but still calls everyone "n00b". As said before, it doesn't really even have a point in a game such as this. It would REALLY feel out-of-place to be screamed at by Yoshi in a little kid's voice >_>

I'm assuming brawl is the exception, seeing as you already joined the tournament. >_>

There's something about voice chat that is better than using pre-set text messages.

Really, it's more fun.

Not everyone uses voicechat to discuss tactics. Some people use it to, well, chat. It's a lot more fun when you can actually communicate with the people in the game.

Apparently, Nintendo is developing voice recognition.

Bleeped-out voice chats, anybody?

I noticed the massive flaws in that post pretty quickly, but I didn't bother erasing it.
