Moar fanfiction from the desk of MsDevin92. ...Well, more like laptop.
An AU (different story from the canon anime) Princess Tutu fic I'm writing. Pairings will be revealed as the story progresses.

Also, please no critique due to the over-sensitivity of the author.

The Tale of Princess Tutu: The Prince and the Raven

Prologue: Once Upon a Time

Siegfried fell back at the sharp sting of the monster’s claws slamming against his shoulder, shattering his guard an in instant. His sword, knocked from his hand, clattered to the destroyed flagstones of the courtyard.

He heard the creature’s booming laugh resound like thunder over his head, saw the scythe like claws come carving their whistling arc once again-

He threw himself down to the ground, barely avoiding being beheaded. The force of the blow caused a powerful burst of wind to tear at his cape and push him back, until- CRACK. It collided with the creeper-entwined fountain, which burst to crumbling pieces.

Hahaha…You have failed, Prince! Your heart will be mine, and all shall sink into my wings!”

A cold jolt went down Siegfried’s spine as the shadows looming against the dark sky drew ever closer.

His heart- He’d played right into the Raven’s claws! His heart was what it had wanted!

He looked up, torn golden eyes meeting the malicious red ones of the approaching monster. He took a shaky step back.

His foot hit something hard, causing him to stumble and drop to one knee, beside his sword. He looked down.

The largest of the many marble swans that had adorned the now-ruined fountain lay there. The blow of the claw had carved one wing from its side, and the other was cracked against the ground, broken. A number of vicious scratches marred its serene face, and a chunk of stone was missing right from its heart.

…Heart…

He looked down at the fallen bird in sorrow. And it was not the only destruction his eyes beheld. The site of its fall was strewn with massive gouges like wounds in the earth, spidery cracks in the bloodstained stone, thorny black creepers choking the life out of the flowerbeds, a bone-deep chill of horror enveloping the world like raven’s wings…

The world. The world was in danger.

He would never let this monster take it. It was more precious to him than anything. He would never lose it, never let it be taken and destroyed. He would give anything to save it, to protect it…

Even- he knew, as he laid his hand for the final time upon the hilt of his sword- his heart.

---

Once upon a time, there was a Prince and a Raven.

The Raven descended on the Prince’s world and attempted to consume it by enveloping it in his deep black wings. His demonic flock of servants swarmed the land, devouring the hearts of the inhabitants in their lord’s reign of terror.

The Prince battled long and hard to end the Raven’s nightmare. With his enchanted blade, gifted to strike down the monsters by freeing the hearts of those they had taken, in hand, he ventured out to strike down the Raven once and for all.

However, the valiant soul had unknowingly entered a trap. The Raven knew his might was too strong to be broken by even the Prince. And with the young hero’s powerful heart in his clutches, he would be truly all-powerful.

The Prince was cornered. If he continued to fight the arduous battle, he and his world would truly be lost…

So, he took his sword, and cut out his own heart, carving it to pieces and scattering them to the winds as he did.

As pillars of good and evil, the Prince and the Raven were complete opposites- manifestations of conflicting forces locked in struggle for dominance. When the Prince released his heart, draining himself of all his soul and power and reducing him to little more than a lifeless shell, the same befell the wicked beast.

The Raven had fallen, but at the price of the Prince himself…

And all traces of the two vanishes from the earth, as if they had been nothing more than a memory.

…For now…

That was really good, Devin. :D You've actually turned me into a Princess Tutu fan now, so I'm eager for the rest.

Okay, since my computer is being a piece of crag-rocks now, I'll just post the FF.net link and update when...updated. I guess.
