Yeah, I have to agree there. It has no reason to exist. It's a lazy way to artificially increase play time, plus there are NO story sequences from the time it starts to the time you get to the final boss.
At least the first act of the SSE was good, though. |

Except that you need to collect up to 30 trophies with Dedede,Kirby,Ness,and Luigi in order to have a good ending. |

All of which you have to beat SSE to get. |
Actually,you don't have to beat it to get Sonic,just get to the final boss,and he arrives to "crash Tabuu's party",as the cobalt speed demon would say it. |

Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox, Picachu, Luigi, Captain Falcon, Ness, Bowser, Peach, Zelda, Ice Climbers, Marth, Mr. Game and Watch, Falco, Ganondorf, Meta Knight, Pit, Olimar, Lucas, Diddy Kong, Pokemon Trainer, King Dedede, Lucario, Ike, R.O.B., Wario, and Snake.

Toon Link, Wolf, and Jiggs.I don't know where to find them,but don't worry about Sonic.He saves everyone's asses near the beginning of the final boss. |

You need to beat SSE to make the doors appear that you find Toon Link, Wolf, and Jiggly in. |
