No, only offline VS matches count.

And the ending was OKAY. I mean... everything turned out okay, right? I just wish there was one last cutscene.

With a cardboard box and NO Snake.

You CANNOT unlock three of the characters until you beat SSE.

THEY can be unlocked by a crap load of VS matches.
Jigglypuff should be unlockable after event 21.

It was in one of those events how I got her.

I thought you could get every character in SSE? Just look up a guide or something.

Also yeah, the ending was a little anti-climatic. I was expecting it though. I mean when you think about it, the battle with Tabuu was the ending. The cinema after it was just for some closure. Also so that you can understand what the *crag* song means. Something about murdering your friends, I don't know.

As a whole though, I enjoyed SSE as a narrative. It's the closest we will probably ever get to "Nintendo the Movie," and despite a lack of dialouge it did mange to convey some pretty good emotions throughout. I especially enjoyed the plight of the R.O.Bs, the scene were R.O.B is turned on by his own brothers is quite possibly the greatest scene that Nintendo has ever made.

I think some guy in square enix made the scenes actually.

Anyway, I hear a rumor of a better ending if all hiddens are unlocked...but that may not be true.

Well, I know how to unlock the Optional Characters:

For Jigglypuff, you can either go to the Swamp and fight her, OR You can clear Event 20 AFTER beating the Subspace Emissary!

For Toon Link, go to the Forest, and defeat him. Or if you feel lucky, like the punk that you are, try clearing Classic Mode with Link AFTER clearing the Subspace Emissary!

For Wolf, you can either check out the Ruins in Subspace Emissary, and go to the door at the bottom of the shaft with the moving platform. You can choose to skip the first door in there, but I think you should go in there for some treasure, anyway! It'll really help if it includes healing items, and it's a lot quicker! OR you can clear the Boss Rush Mode with Fox, and fight Wolf after.

I didn't expect anything that great. The entire plot sucked; there was so much it left unexplained because it didn't have dialogue. The plot boiled down to a bunch of evil dudes trying to kill everyone for no reason.

It really didn't need a long, detailed ending. Simplicity worked well, and the final battle made up for it, in my opinion.

The final battle was lame. Almost every move hit and all of them put at least 70% damage on you.

I only died with sonic on my second time though. :>

Also I want to know why the hell Sonic just randomly appeared in the story. >_>

That's what trophies are for, closure.

But, I personally thought the plot was pretty good. Except Peach on the Halberd, where she shows off her extremely low IQ points to the maximum.

The redeeming qualities of the plot were Ganondorf's assault, pretty much any scene with Wario or Bowser turning someone into a trophy (particularly the Donkey Kong scene), and anything involving King Dedede.

And, c'mon, isn't it every SEGA fan's dream to see Nintendo killing itself, and then Sonic comes to save the day?

Sakurai said the decision to put Sonic in wasn't made until sometime 2007, and they likely had all the story done by than and needed an easy way to put Sonic in.
