To start off, this is basically a retelling of Super Smash Bros. Brawl's Adventure Mode - The Subspace Emissary. However, there is one key difference: there are Digibutter members in it.
They will not be taking the place of the Nintendo (and Konami and Sega) characters that we know and love, however...instead, they will be added into the story. This ought to make it quite a bit more unpredictable - because of these additions, the story will take some twists and turns that never happened in the actual game.
Now, regarding member inclusion: for obvious reasons, I won't be able to include every single member who asks. I'm going to try to include as many people as possible, but please don't take it personally if you asked and you aren't in it. I'm going to try to introduce 2-3 members (if not more) per chapter, though.
So...what role will I be giving myself?
That's something you'll have to read to find out!
CHAPTER 1: THE MIDAIR STADIUM
Cheering crowds. Roaring applause. A large field of battle in the center. It could only be one thing: the annual Super Smash tournament!
As was customary, the world's leaders were present at the event. The princesses waved to the crowd, enjoying the attention they were getting.
___________ ZELDA ___________
___________ PEACH ___________
Peach pointed into the air as the trophies of the fighters were tossed down.
First came Mario, the legendary hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. As his trophy hit the ground, it came to life. Mario prepared himself for his opponents.
___________ MARIO ___________
Next was Kirby, the pink puffball from Dream Land. As he came to life, he waved cheerfully at the crowd.
___________ KIRBY ___________
Goron Mask's trophy hit the ground next. The king of sloopy was eating a taco as he came to life. When he realized what was happening, he hurriedly stuffed the rest of it in his mouth before the fight began.
____________________ GORON MASK ____________________
Last, but certainly not least, came the Dino Piranha, straight from Mario's latest adventure. He gave a menacing roar on the spot.
_____________________ DINO PIRANHA _____________________
The audience cheered even louder as the brawl began!
--
Meanwhile, high above the sky, an angel was using his goddess's scrying pool as a television to watch the battle.
___________ PIT ___________
--
Mario launched the first attack, landing a fiery smash attack on Kirby. Everyone leaped into action. Dino Piranha bashed his tail into the distracted Mario as Goron Mask attacked with a ferocious projectile aimed at Kirby, who had just used his Final Cutter ability. Mario was knocked aside, but Goron Mask's attack missed. A hammer appeared at one end of the battlefield; it was a mad dash to grab it. Goron Mask was lucky enough to reach it first, and with its crushing power managed to knock Kirby out of the game.
Mario and Dino Piranha, however, managed to dodge it. Forming a temporary alliance, the two of them focused their attacks on Goron Mask. He never stood a chance against the combined might of plumber and plant.
Now, it was down to two competitors. The one that won would go on to become the champion.
Unfortunately for Dino Piranha, however, Mario had defeated him several times before, and it was no trouble for the man in red to defeat him again.
"THIS GAME'S WINNER IS...MARIO!" the announcer declared. The crowd went wild. Mario tapped on the trophy bases of each of his opponents and shook hands with each of them. They then posed for the cameras.
Suddenly, the sky darkened, and red clouds began rolling in...
Kirby gasped as he recognized the large battleship that was rapidly approaching them. Didn't it belong to Meta Knight?
A hatch opened on the underside of the ship, dropping shadowy particles onto the stadium. The particles condensed together and formed...things.
Peach and Zelda gasped before rushing into action. Zelda teleported to the side of the fighters as Peach floated in on her parasol. The six prepared to battle.
The odd creatures came in droves, nearly overwhelming the heroes with their might. Not only that, but mechanized cloudlike beings came to assist the creatures, as well. When the clouds were attacked, they suddenly became significantly more ferocious. Multiple times, the fighters came close to being turned into trophies once more; however, timely food drops kept this from occurring.
At one point, a trophy stand appeared. Goron Mask, noticing this, managed to turn one of the creatures into a trophy. He pocketed it, reminding himself to find out what it was later.
Finally, every last creature had been destroyed - and that was when they met the cause of this disaster as he flew down from the battleship.
____________________________ ANCIENT MINISTER ____________________________
The figure garbed in green dropped a strange device onto the ground before our heroes. They tensed visibly, wondering what new threat this could be.
Two R.O.B.s came around from either side, drawing it open and revealing a strange, undulating orb of shadow, along with a timer.
Mario had seen enough. He ran toward the device, intending to stop it, when a tremendous roar gave him pause.
Moments later, a cannonball collided with him, sending him off into the distance.
Goron Mask, Kirby, and Dino Piranha gasped and tried to see what was happening, and the same happened to them.
Thanks to Dino Piranha's size, though, he wasn't knocked out of the stadium. Because of this, he witnessed the capture of Zelda and Peach by a monstrous plant...
______________________ PETEY PIRANHA ______________________
Growling threateningly, Dino Piranha faced off against Petey Piranha.
Petey smashed one of the cages containing Zelda into Dino, catching him off-guard. Zelda yelled in pain as she was knocked around.
Dino instantly responded with a slam of his tail into Petey's face, knocking him off-balance. He followed up with a headbutt to Petey's body. Petey was prepared, though; he brought up one of the cages to block the attack.
He was successful, but the force of the blow shattered the cage, freeing Princess Peach.
Giving her thanks to Dino Piranha, Peach prepared to assist him in the battle. The two of them were easily able to defeat the colossal Piranha Plant. He fell over in defeat.
Peach and Dino sighed in relief. However, suddenly, another figure darted into sight...
___________ WARIO ___________
Wario was carrying an odd, sinister-looking gun. Snickering, he aimed it at them...then noticed something else.
Princess Zelda had managed to crawl out of her cage, but was thoroughly exhausted. She glanced up at Wario.
Cackling, the overweight villain fired at Zelda. An arrow shot out of the gun and went through the princess, causing a blinding flash of light...
When it cleared, Zelda was a trophy.
Wario jumped over to where Zelda was and picked her up. He laughed again, then jumped out of sight.
Then, while Dino was distracted, another arrow went through Princess Peach. He turned around in surprise, seeing the newcomer holding yet another trophy gun.
___________ FIREICE ___________
Giving Dino a bloodthirsty smile, she grabbed Peach's trophy and escaped as well.
Dino Piranha now had no idea what to do. He gave one glance to the device that had been dropped earlier...and, to his dread, realized that there were only ten seconds left on the timer.
Not wanting to stick around to find out what it was counting down to, Dino Piranha cleared the stadium wall with a bounding leap and escaped...just before a shadowy orb engulfed it.

Hmm...
I'll admit two things before I criticize you. First of all, the story sticks really close to its original material. It's a great second ride through the Subspace Emissary, only more in detail and...er...better. Second, this is simply excellently-written. You give accurate descriptions of all characters and events, encorperate both the false logic used the fantasy worlds of Nintendo (and Fire Emblem) with actual intelligence and logic. You fit every member in the right role, and I'm very pleased with this overall.
However, I find the package a bit...stale for my tastes. I suppose I'll compare it to Family Guy episode "Blue Harvest", because I can't really think of something else to compare it to after seeing Harrison Ford's picture randomly pop into my mind. The package was good, and had its moments, and the differences were decently noticable. However, it felt like more of a retelling of Star Wars Episode 4 in a different medium. This is what this feels like. It feels like you could've inserted any character in place of the new additions (Dino Piranha would have to have a big character, but still could be replaced). There was no new feeling, no rush of purpose for their addition. They seemed to simply be extras...until Fierce showed up, which was pretty good.
I suppose I'm saying that this is good. It's an accurate retelling of the Subspace Emissary with a few new twists. However, it just feels like you're sticking too close to the base material for me to call it "epic". I guess I just really love that originality. And I know that, if I am ever added (I'm taking bets against myself), I'll probably be killed off in a minute for posting this, but just add a little more...kick to your work, as you normally do. Add those little touches you do so well to really spruce up the product.
That, or do all boss battles with extensive detail, like ten episodes of Dragonball Z with the dialogue and pauses cut out (resulting in 10 minutes of fighting, but quality fighting). Of course, with your touches and astounding artistic flair. |

Well, of course it seems pretty much the same right now =P. We haven't really gotten to the major twists yet...well, aside from Fireice.
And I'm afraid that the whole being able to stick any member in any situation is, for the most part, going to stick throughout the whole thing...but consider this - this actually applies to most characters in the actual game, as well.
I'm not too great at writing fight scenes, though, if you haven't figured that out already XD. I'm gonna try to improve on that. |

Well, when I saw Goron Mask, I was thinking "Sloopy chapter, insane fight", especially when Dino Piranha was thrown into the mix. Instead, it was a little taco action, a Kirby KO, and a "Mario's the Superstar!". Not saying it wasn't good, it was just...unsuprising.
Um...I agree on your second point. But most of those characters are soulless anyway (Mario, Pit, Link, Yoshi, Captain Falcon, Olimar, the Ice Climbers...were they even in SSE? Oh yeah...). Other characters (Luigi, Lucas, Meta Knight, Snake) could never be replaced because of how their personalities fit so perfectly. I think that some member personalities should really shine through with this, and they just haven't. I guess that's why I feel kinda "good" with this.
As for battle scenes...well, you've done great with those, personally. And if you'd like, I'm sure a lot of members (myself included) would like to help you with those. =P |

The problem with expressing members' personalities is that there isn't any dialog in SSE (well, with the exception of Snake's "kept you waiting, huh?"). I could break that rule with the members, but it wouldn't feel right...plus, I want to challenge myself with how well I can express a story without anyone speaking. XD
Of course, if it grows to be too much of a problem, I suppose I'll add in dialog anyway. |

Never said you HAD to add dialogue. Just lots of overacting on the insane characters' parts, the "zomg invincible" characters looking extremely badass (Like Ike's intro combined with Petey Piranha randomly exploding from getting two cages beaten up), and the others fitting their respective bills. Like how Peach was so moronic and peaceful. |

I'll see if I can do that with members that I'm more familiar with the personalities of =P
With no offense meant to Dino Piranha, I have essentially no idea what he's like, so he may have seemed a tad generic in this chapter - which was why I used the Super Mario Galaxy beast-like personality instead.
With Goron Mask, I didn't really have much of a chance, since all he did was participate in the fight...
I should also note that most, if not all, of the intros were decided on by the members themselves; therefore, it may not be 100% representative of their real personality. |
