Mario

Neutral B- Fireball
Mario gained the ability to shoot fireballs by collecting Fire Flowers in Super Mario Bros. In Brawl, he can toss them at will.

Side B- Cape
Mario got the cape from a Cape Feather in Super Mario World. It even retains its yellow color.

Down B- FLUDD
Mario's main weapon in Sunshine. It was used for a multitude of purposes but now it's mainly for shoving people off the edge.

Up B- Super Jump Punch
This is basically Mario's jump in Super Mario Bros. It has the same sound effect, and hitting an enemy has the same effect as hitting a coin block.

Taunt 1- Mario grows to a large size and shrinks again; this is a reference to when he gets a Super Mushroom.

Taunt 2- Mario removes his cap stylishly. He has made this pose in a few games.

Taunt 3- Mario spins out and falls. This is a reference to how he dies in Donkey Kong.

Backwards Throw- The classic spin and toss move from Super Mario 64. So long-a, Bowser!

Down Air- Mario Tornado from past Smash games. However, Mario used this move in Galaxy.

Standard A- The two-punch and kick combo from Super Mario 64.

Down Smash- The breakdance kick move from Super Mario 64, executed by pressing B while ducking.

Standard Air- Mario kicked in midair in Super Mario 64, but not quite in this fashion.

Running A- Mario slides with a foot stuck out. This is his running kick move from Mario 64.

I PWNED MALAK LOLZ

Settle down,dude.I'll do it.
-------------
Luigi

Entrance:Right here demonstrates his "like Mario, but different" behavior.

Standard B:This is derived from the green fireballs of Mario Bros.,which never strayed from the level they were spawned on.
Down B:This is from the spin jump of SMW.
Up B:This is from whenever he hits a Coin Box,but the Fire Jump Punch is the main difference.
Side B and A combos:This shows that he has a strange way of fighting. He battles using his own style, consisting of mainly lower body strikes.
and manuvers

Down Taunt, and running a:This is an exampe of his shy and skittish behavior that he developed because of his lack of basic popularity.

Final Smash:Ever since his starring role in Luigi's Mansion,he's had a connection to the paranormal. This shines,as he summons a Ghost House bubble around himself through a strange dance.

Running and jumping:In Super Mario Bros 2(Both English and Japanese),he could jump higher than Mario, but slides like he is on ice when you change direction.

Mr.GAME and Watch

Entrance: Mr.Game and Watch moves like he would in his games: On determined frames (or whatever you call it).

N-Special: This attack comes from Chef, where Mr.Game and Watch had to catch flying frying food in his Frying Pan, only to send them flying again. The goal was to catch them as many time as possible without missing 3 of them. In smash, like its first appearance, the trajectory of the food is unpredictable. Unlike it's first appearance, the Projectiles are only sausages.

D-Special: This one is derived from Oil Panic. In Oil Panic, Mr.Game and Watch was in a Gas Station and had to catch drips of Oil leaking from the ceiling with a bucket, and dump them in a recipient outdoor. In it's original Game, the Bucket could only carry 3 drips at a time, meaning that the oil MUST be dumped. In Super Smash Bros, Mr.Game and Watch can catch 3 non-physical missiles in his bucket, and then dump it on a opponent.

U-Special: This attack is in two part. The first part is from Fire. In Fire, a pair of Fire Fighters had to catch Mr.Game and Watches as they jumped out of a building on fire, using a blanket. If Mr.Game and Watch hit the blanket, he was sent flying out of it and safely landed on the ground, but if you missed a Mr.Game and Watch, he would fall directly on the ground and hurt himself badly/die. You could say this is exactly the same in SSBM, but in SSBB there is a difference, that is the second part of the move: Parachute. In Parachute, you controlled a guy in a canoe that had to catch Mr.Game and Watches coming out of a plane using parachute, ready to dive in the river. If you missed a Mr.Game and Watch, he would be eaten by the shark... You could say these two moves come from similar games.
-----
Neutral Ground: Donkey Kong 3. Donkey Kong 3 was a game where you (Stanley) had to protect plants from Insects using insecticide spray. Those insects were in fact generated by Donkey Kong.

D-Ground: Manhole. In manhole, Mr.Game and Watch had to hold a manhole cover to help uncaring citizens to cross a bridge. Problem was, there were 4 manholes and only one Mr.Game and Watch.

Neutral Air: Tropical Fish. Tropical Fish was a game were you had to catch fishes jumping out of an aquarium with a Fishbowl, only to see the fish jumping out of the fishbowl again, meaning that you had to catch it again, and again, until it arrived in the aquarium on the other side of the room.

Down Air: This attack comes from Donkey Kong Jr (Game and Watch version). The item he uses in the attack is the key to Donkey Kong's cage.

Though, in my opinion, the taunt itself looks more like Mario's pose when he finishes a level in New Super Mario Bros.

Actually, after close observation, it's actually from New Super Mario Bros. He does it every time you reach the flagpole.

Oh, and an addition for Sonic, his foward smash I think is a reference to his wind up punch attack from Sonic the Fighters.

Ness
____
Standard B: In EarthBound, PSI Flash Beta - Omega can instantly destroy enemies. I think Omega Flash was used here, since it can almost kill opponents in a flash- get it? *shot*

Side B: Paula actually learned this, not Ness. In EarthBound, it damages enemies in one row. But in Brawl, Ness makes a column of fire, getting multiple hits.

Up B: This, again, Paula learned this instead of Ness. In EarthBound, PSI Thunder has a greater chance of hitting when there are two or more enemies on the battle screen. In Brawl, I guess it's the same thing. More enemies = lesser chance of missing.

Down B: PSI Magnet was used to suck PP out of enemies, adding the PP to their own. In Brawl, it's basically the same thing, but using energy-based projectiles.

Side Smash: Ness' signature weapon, the bat. It's not known what bat this is, but maybe it's the Legendary bat. ... Or Casey, because I miss a lot of hits with it. >_>

Up/Down Smashes: Ness' other weapon, the yo-yo. Yo-yo's were good weapons, but they had low acc
uracy. But in Brawl, it's easy to hit someone with it.
