I'm atheist, but just so that I won't follow another of those man-made religions.

If there is a deity like a God, then I'm sure they have no reason to care about us or to give a damn if we know them, and such. They don't have to bother appearing in our faces and sending children from their world.

And there is no, NO way the human race will ever, EVER find out what is the truth about Gods.

I'm done with religion at this point. I used to call myself an agnostic, than an atheist, but now I'm just considering screwing it all and going nihilist, or at the very least denouncing every form of religion including atheism. Even atheists, who says there is no god, act no better than religious lunatics like those at the Catholic church. They constantly insult people who believe in god, almost as if they were inferior because of their beliefs. It sickens me to the core that people can be suchs total ass holes to other religions and think that it's rightous.

Yeah so in summation, *crag* religion.

I honor your beliefs, but don't talk to me about them because I don't give a shit.

I'm atheist because I seriously don't know how anyone could believe there's a magic man in the sky. There is a scientific explanation for almost everything and there will be more scientific explanations for other things. Science is science because you can prove it. It's fact, religion simply is not. It's what you can't prove. I think people are religious for these reasons:

they were raised with it & don't want to betray it, because they feel like they would then be betraying their parents

they feel a need for it, kind of like addiction

they're afraid of whatever does happen after death, and just want there to be a heaven or after-life

I'm actually at the public library right now for an Atheist Community meeting. (It's like church for atheists. Kind of a get-together thing to discuss stuff.)

For me, I'm self-proclaimed agnostic. My father's side of the family is really, really religious, Roman Catholic, and Italian. Those three things equal a scary-religious family. So anyway, I was never raised to be religious until my grandma got onto my father's case about me and my brother not being religious. So, he made us go to church and Sunday school, in which I understood NOTHING because a) I didn't care, b) I never once opened a bible, and c) I didn't care some more. I ended up not going to either once again (woohoo!) due to me eventually freaking out and very loudly stating that I hated it. So, here I am now...

I live the way I cragging want. Sure, I have morals and such, but I'm independent of any kind of organized... or any religion. Just to piss people off, I say I'm Pastafarian (you know, the Flying Spaghetti Monster). It's great to see the enraged faces of family members. XD

Yeah, some people at school don't like it when I tell them I'm atheist, so I tell them I'm pastafarian, and they actually like that better. Atheist seems like a word that everyone that's not atheist hates. Like we're some kind of devil-worshippers or something.

Yeah. People assume atheists worship the devil. But, that's what Satanists are for. Atheists are just indifferent on religion.

I just hate it that people are, as always, a bunch of pricks and make such a fuss over religion. I mean, some of those sects (and Scientology, which is kina in between) are so f*cked upm, they ought to be controlled and in the worst case outlawed, but else... Belive and let believe.

I aways find it funny that atheists feel the need to claim God's nonexistance, as I say logically you can only try to prove the non-existance of something that has a basis for existance. I can say that pie doesn't exist in my kitchern right now, but there is the basis for pie...

Anyway, I don't want to get on your nerves.

What really bothers me is that people are, well, a bunch of pricks. Even I, 'cos I think I could make it better if everyone listened to me and would think about it. Even if that'd work (and it wouldn't because I practice corkscrew logic) it'd be f*cking arrogant of me.

Why are people sinful ? Did He just want something interesting to watch and all holy and nice'd be lame ? But I don't think He's that flawed, He'd see that that would cause lots of really unnecessary suffering. And I don't think anyone so really powerful AND knowing would be evil - Absolute power corrupts, but I hope absolute knowledge purifies.

The world is a mystery inside a riddle wrapped in an enigma.

I believe that all things happen for a scientific reason, but only when those things are examined closely for the random effects that cause them could a god or higher power be at work.

That's my opinion, but I'll respect anyone who thinks differently.

Nothing Jesus said was violent and sexist. As for the bible as a whole, you have to keep in mind that most of it was written thousands of years ago in cultures much different from ours today (but even in the last 100 years here, women couldn't vote).

Like Judaism, Islam believes that God (Allah) gave the Torah (first books of the Old Testament Bible) to Moses. But the Muslims think that it got corrupted by the Jews and Christians, and that Muhammad was given the real and revised version much later (about 600 AD). Hence why they contain similar stories, but are also very different. Why did God allow this? Because we have free-will, and that includes cragging things up.
Fink rat! wrote:

God gave us free will. We chose to *crag* things up.
Jesus did not create Christianity, we did that later. Give any group too much power and it will be abused. People twist and use the bible for their own purposes all the time.
Fink rat! wrote:

I dont know why you threw it away, but I would guess that it was because you didn't like the crap that it gets associated with. It can also be boring/frustrating if you approach it the wrong way. Did you expect God to stop you from throwing it away?
Fink rat! wrote:

Just because he is almighty, doesnt mean he has to control your life. God gave us free will to disobey him. He forgives us anyways, which shows his benelovence.
Fink rat! wrote:

You choose to be seperate from God. God can not be with what he is not. Being seperate from God is not good for you, he can't help that. I think the bible's description of hell and fire was just trying to get across the point: Being seperate from All that is Everything permanently sucks.

It seems that most of your issues come down to the whole free-will thing. People think that God should stop all pain and suffering here. Thats not how it works though. God created a perfect world in which we could love him, and we chose not to, so there are consequences for that. Basically he said fine, you want to do things your way, then go ahead. Now God is trying to get us back, without forcing us, and working with the mess we created.

But why create free-will if you know people are going to suffer out of it?

I'm agnostic, because I hate the entire concept of faith. Believing in something that can't be proven just seems stupid to me.

And that's why not only do all religions seem stupid to me, but atheism does too. Because atheists concretely believe there is no god at all, which again, is a leap of faith.

We can't prove there is a god, nor can we prove that there isn't one. So believing that there is one AND believing that there isn't one are both stupid ideas.

Becuase the good that comes out of it is far greater. But going deeper, we dont really know exactly why God created us. We know the purpose of this world, but not the purpose of the purpose. Confused

Faith in god is not stupid. It does not contradict reason. It is validated by evidence, even though it is not proven by evidence. You believe in stuff that is not proven all the time. Trusting your parents or other authorties requires faith. Faith is the foundation of all your knowledge, unless you plan on proving yourself everything you believe. If we limited ourselves to only what we know and can prove, the advancement of science and technology would have been halted a long time ago.
