I came home from a meeting with my teacher at the mall today, and my laptop is NOT working. Every time I start it up or open a program- even clicking on my account symbol to log in- it freezes and goes black, tells me it can't bring up my security logon information or that it just failed to start as a whole, and shuts down again. I've restarted it a million times and have gone through just as many disc checks or safe mode launches. Right now, it's doing a startup repair, but that might take a while- they said could be over an hour- and I'm stuck on the downstairs computer.

Any ideas?

Reformat the hard drive. That's the best you can do.

I'd have to say the same as Blue.
You'd also need to reinstall your OS afterwords.

Insert the windows XP/Vista disc, and turn on the computer. It'll get rid of everything on the comp, but it'll be completely clean. Oh, and you'll need the product code or something. Make sure you have the disc and the code before you do the reformatting.

...I can't do that. My picture and document files were carried over from my old laptop, and it's broken now.

Here's a tip, call the microsoft support, but if you hear and Indian accent, hang up. They have a support center in India and in Houston, Texas. If you get a Texan accent, or one that isn't Indian then you should talk, but DO NOT ERASE YOUR HARDDRIVE UNTIL IT IS ABSOLUTELY NESSESARY.

When our comp messed up, we called and some Indian guy told us to erase the harddriv. During the process he hung up. Next guy we get tells us we needed to buy a recovery disk until my mom finally screamed, "I DON'T WANT A CRAGGING RECOVERY DISK! I HAVE NO CRAGGING DATA! Eventually we shipped it off to the HP company and found out it that the fan stopped working and the computer ended up going into a security thing where it shut off to prevent damage to the hardware.

So, call the dudes until you an American, but whatever you do, DON'T LISTEN TO THE INDIAN GUY!!!!!

But if all else fails, send it to the manufacturer. They will be able to find out the problem, and if all else fails, remove your harddrive and save it.
