Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Message Board older than one year ago

The Wii port of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney arrives in Europe today, after being panned by US media for being a lazy port. We don't think "lazy port" is a strong enough term for what is essentially a GBA game running in emulation. But, because it's Phoenix Wright running in emulation, and its story is unaltered by the change in presentation, we personally don't care. It's not like anyone expected anything to be changed or added. In other "things that used to be retail DS games" news, on DSiWare, Nintendo offers two more Electroplankton segments this week. Hudson also presents the hardest sudoku puzzles yet. The Nintendo DS game gets ported to Wii. Almost completely unchanged.

It seems the past few weeks of excitement, chock full of NintendoWare releases, have come to an end. Other than the launch of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney on WiiWare, this week's offerings don't exactly fill our hearts with unfettered joy. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is ready to head into the WiIWare courtroom this Monday, Capcom reveals. You'll be able to relive the classic lawyer-em-up for 1,000 Wii Points ($10), where your Hamilton will net you the first four episodes from the original GBA game -- Capcom says the final fifth episode will be available later as DLC for 100 Wii Points ($1). And if you're scratching your noggin, wondering what the big deal is, feel free to check out some recent videos from the game.

We hope you came here today to see a ridiculous amount of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney footage on WiiWare, because there are three ridiculously long videos past the break showing off just that. As expected, it's more or less unchanged in its transition from Nintendo's handheld to its home console -- save for the new Wiimote gestures and bigger pixels. An everyday Japanese family gets the experience of becoming an Ace Attorney with WiiWare.

This slightly hokey Japanese trailer for the WiiWare ports of the Phoenix Wright games features an overexcited kid informing his easily shocked father that the series is now available on WiiWare -- at which point they turn on the Wii and, essentially, watch more of the trailer that they are currently in. The family also demonstrates the new Wiimote gestures for Phoenix's exclamations: Igiari! (Objection!), Matta! (Hold it!) and Kurae! (Take that!) Seeing people perform the motions on video, it actually looks like much more fun than we anticipated. So much fun that we'll be driven to play through the games again on Wii just to make fools of ourselves in a new way.
