Alright, so, Chrome OS, I honestly think the only reason it would be used over Mac or Windows is due to schools/Work environments, Due to It being insanely easy to install Spyware for the administrator, I made the mistake of buying one because I heard they were fast, which would’ve been amazing due to my laptop at the time was really slow, so, I went out and bought one and realized a month later that Files served barely any function, and downloading stuff was a hassle because it would block almost everything (Because it deemed it not safe) which Included nintendo’s own website at the time? So, now it’s just on a shelve gathering dust because I have 0 purpose for it now, That laptop i mentioned that’s currently 13 years old? That’s my current computer I commonly use, too bad It will be basically useless when windows 10 stops getting supported.
Chromebooks suck. They’ve got great battery life but poor specs and lousy displays. You probably only heard that they were “fast” because ChromeOS is pretty much just locked down to Chrome and the file manager. They’re also great vectors for organization-enforced spyware as you mentioned. Why not install something like Linux Mint on your laptop or jailbreak your Chromebook and put something bearable on it?
Here’s my X200 still going strong (definitely not my main laptop, but still cool).
I tried installing Linux on it a few years ago, the blasted thing crashed for some reason, I’ll just stick to my old windows, Chrome is only good for keeping tabs on students, because that’s the only reason i’d think to buy one, and as someone who doesn’t work at a school, I’ll pass
Shweet computer by the way
