Notch was clearly worried that EA might expect them to work on the game, which just isn't something Mojang has plans to do.

OH NO A BIG COMPANY WHAT IF THEY ACTUALLY MAKE US WORK WE CAN'T HAVE THAT HAPPEN

I'm sort of on and off about this
Thing is big companies like EA are not to fond of making their games open source
or mod-able
or basically anything you can do to a copy of doom
