In yesterday's Online Game Deals, I noted a game named Monster Tale. I mentioned it only briefly during my commentary, but today, I wanted to give this game the attention it deserves.

If you're unfamiliar with Monster Tale, think classic Metroid with a smidge of Pokemon. You play the role of Ellie, working your way through a colorful 2D world filled with cartoonish baddies. Your partner is Chomp, a monster partner who largely serves as an upgradable assist character. As you progress, you'll eventually unlock more upgrades and evolve Chomp, allowing you to access areas you couldn't previously, adding a noticeable Metroid vibe to the game, but with enough differences (such as Ellie's strong melee combat mechanics) to also feel original and unique. The game is not without its faults - the backtracking can feel repetitive at times - but Monster Tale's charm, personality and solid gameplay more than make up for it.

Monster Tale is currently available for less than $10 on Amazon. If you haven't already, and you appreciate Metroidvania games, give this one a try. Not only is it a great deal, it's a truly great game.
