What if we had a refer a member option on the site. Like when a new member enters their name and email they could also enter a current members name and that person would recieve Points or whatever the *crag* you want to call them.

These points could be spent on some of the features from the old site like maybe Fireworks or the Smokeball. For instance, maybe you recieve 2 points per refferal and it costs 5 to light a Firework. This would allow us to have some of the more unique parts of the old site back with the added benefit of less item spamming and no *crag*ing coin economy to deal with.

Not only that but points, or sure why not *crag*ing call them coins, would have some actual value as opposed to before when they were just an unlimited resource. There is always the possibilty of people just making one-shot email accounts or even using proxies, and while there would definetly be ways to combat that it seems kind of stupid too at this stage.

I think everyone here wants new members, and an inccentive to go and seek out new people in the vast corners of the internet is never a bad idea.

Not only that, put the new Coins would actually be a valid reward in contests.

This of course is all up to Francis as I'm sure this system would take a shit load of work, but I really don't care if it gets implememted. I just want to get some ideas out there so we can get the ball rolling on this shit.

Like anyone would refer 3 people to light a god damn firework.

It's an example. And either way the point is not to make people want to go out and refer tons of people, but to incentive the process so that there is some tangible reward they can attain in the present. Some people just don't get motivated by the big picture goal of establishing a community, but they still want it. This type of plan works for everyone. Nothing is set in stone and it is all open for edits. Please refrain from criticizing examples that are part of an idea for a system that will most likely not come to be and instead focus on the other parts so that we can get this *crag*ed on the road. Thx Much.

Dibs on naming the currency "Bros".

If we go through with advertising we need an overall theme to the site that'll attract worth-while members here, without that it's *crag*ing pointless to even attempt.

You seem to think that internet forums are not community driven content hubs.
Sadly you are mistaken.

It's coming, Popple. Now that I have the site mostly stable, and on a server that doesn't reboot every 10 minutes, I can start adding the fun stuff.
loafSKZ, the site has a theme... 8-bit style. Which I think would attract gamers, no?
Reply by Francis Nov 09 2009 22:14 GMT
But Francis, that theme has to GO somewhere... Who cares if the background is 8-bit, how much of the discuss is centered around that? And still, how IS it even 8-bit themed, other than the background. As far as I can tell, the beautiful shrubs, sky, and dirt are the only 8-bit related things on this entire site.

I find that if you truly want an 8-bit theme, use the C64's limted colour pallete.

I mean, having a 8-bit avatar and background doesn't really make a forum centralized around the subject of 8-bit games... It just forces us to make our own crappy avatars =/

I don't mean like skin wise, I mean like overall discussion wise...something that makes us stick out from other places. Also pops I wasn't implying that forums were like that I meant that if were going to try and get quality members we need to appeal to a certain crowd, one that isn't full of retarded 12 year olds on a constant sugar rush.
