I know I've been making several games recently, but this one is remotely hosted and so can stay up 24/7.

If any of you have ever played Urban Dead or Wurm Online (You might be interested to know that the creator of Minecraft was originally a developer for Wurm) you'll have a general idea of what to do in this game, if not then feel free to experiment.

It's pretty basic at the moment since I have to code everything from scratch, but I'll be adding features and achievements regularly (hopefully).

Also, the beta key is currently 'welcometothenewworld' - I'm keeping the game in closed beta (just you guys and some of my RL friends) until I've got a few more features done.

I'm currently working on adding stone and metal mines, once that's done you will be able to build paths and lock buildings (so nobody else can enter). After that I'll work on either chat, pvp or animals. Also, quick question: Do you think the number of trees is fine at the moment, or should I up the spawn rate and/or mass-generate a bunch more?

Hmm interesting, I like the idea. I have now decided to complete something similar in the summer. I suggest to add weapons and enemies, also, add a image tile system as opposed to different shades.

Having the stamina refresh too fast may make it redundant, but I might adjust the refresh rate or stamina usage to balance it a bit more once some more features are done. As for image tiles, that is quite possible, but it might be a little while before I get around to it.

Make a documentation, what is the stamina refresh rate. Also, moving should not use stamina.

I've halved the amount of stamina it takes to complete actions and doubled the max level of stamina (current player stamina levels have also been doubled), see if that improves it a bit. If stamina still causes a problem I will look into creating a more efficient system.

Just fixed a bug that allowed players to build after they had run out of logs, and also reset negative log values to zero.

Yeah, I kinda forgot to work on this the past few days, sorry about that.
Mines are nearly done and should be out today, shortly followed by stone paths (possibly also today). Building locks might take a bit longer, but not much.

There are now a bunch of stone and metal mines around the map. These can be mined repeatedly until they dry up, though they will steadily regenerate. Uses for stone and metal will follow soon.

Now you can use stone to build paths - these take 1 stone to create, and require 5 hits to be destroyed. Be careful though: Constructing a path will prevent trees from growing on that tile!

I've halved the stamina regen delay again, you should now reach the full 100 stamina in a bit over 24 hours. That's enough to walk across the entire length of the map, chop down 20 trees, lay 100 paths, construct 20 buildings or destroy 20 paths every day.

If that still isn't enough, once I get around to implementing animals I'm planning on having them drop meat which can be consumed to restore some stamina.

My host is currently updating his server software, and unfortunately that seems to have knocked out php (regular html files still display though). Ought to be back up some time today, but I can't say for certain.

A few questions for you:

  1. How much longer should I wait (ie. how many more features should I implement) before opening the game for open beta?
  2. Would you be interested in some form of referral service and if so, what kind of reward would you want for getting new members to register?
  3. Would you appreciate some form of wiki/forum to discuss the game and record information about groups/game specs/etc?

Game's back up now.
NPCs will be coded soon (it's on my to-do list), but I'm gonna wait on doing anything about the site layout until the core features are up and running.

Two new features: You can now use 5 metal to lock a building so only you can enter (it can also be unlocked by the person who locked it), and in your profile you now each have a referral link to give to others (in the future, there will be rewards for referring new members). Also, I'd appreciate it if you took the time to answer the questions I posted a bit further up the topic.
