Once again, Amazon has discounted a bunch of video game items, and hidden their identities behind clues. We know the Deal of the Day, and it's a good one: Max Payne 3 for $39.99. And we know the first limited-time deal: Spider-Man Edge of Time for $9.99. As for the rest, we have the clues after the break. Thrifty Nerd has guesses based on the occasionally vague hints.

#rockstargames Alex Moullé-Berteaux, the head of marketing at Rockstar Games, is out after five years at the company. While some may tie this to the perception that the well-reviewed Max Payne 3 has not proven to be the blockbuster of a Grand Theft Auto or a Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar says the split was amicable and not tied to sales. "After five years with Rockstar Games, Alex Moullé-Berteaux has resigned in order to pursue his own personal projects," a spokesperson said. "Alex was a highly valued member of the Rockstar family, and we wish him all the best in future endeavors." More »

#maxpayne In addition to my job here at Kotaku, I work very hard on a bestselling, fictional series of video game novelizations. Last year, I published a gripping, lusty novel based on The Witcher 2. This year, I've been hard at work putting the finishing touches on my next novel based on Max Payne 3, tentatively titled Max Payne 3: The Flesh of Fallen Angels: The Novel. More »

Rockstar announces an unusual plan to deal with cheaters in Max Payne 3.

Rockstar's approach to cheaters in Max Payne 3 isn't "get rid of them" so much as it is "humiliate, punish and get rid of them, those lousy scoundrels." Any player confirmed to be using hacked saves, modded games, leaderboard circumvention tactics or other exploits in Max Payne 3's multiplayer will be ceremoniously quarantined in the "Cheaters Pool," which is kind of like jail, but all of the inmates have guns.

The cheaters will only be able to play with other ne'er-do-wells in the pool, but they can be redeemed and re-enter the civilized multiplayer shooter world. However, if they step out of line again, they'll be serving life in the Cheaters Pool.

Apparently, the ability to slow the passage of time - perhaps mankind’s most potent enemy of all – wasn’t enough for some Max Payne 3 players. They needed more an edge. An upper hand. A fool-proof means of killing you and your fun. So, of course, they added the requisite loadout of cheats and hacks to their arsenals, and now honest players are getting quite Mad Max over Max Payne. Happily, however, Rockstar has proposed a rather unique solution.

#techspot If you've been a gamer for at least a decade, then you will recognize Max Payne as the PC third-person shooter of the early 2000s. Notable for its film noir style and use of the bullet time effect (The Matrix), Max Payne's character went on to surpass anyone's expectations with several console ports, a sequel, and a feature film adaptation in 2008. Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and Rockstar's Max Payne 3 remained bosom buddies atop Chart-Track's UK sales chart for another week. The team of Ghost Recon kept their advantages position on the high ground for a second week, with Payne providing back-up in second.

Capcom's love or hate RPG Dragon's Dogma slipped one spot into fourth, with FIFA 12 running up the field from fifth into third.

Nihilistic's Resistance: Burning Skies for Vita debuted at the 12 spot. Chart-Track notes the previous handheld Resistance title was Resistance: Retribution for PSP, which failed to crack the top 40. The UK top ten invade after the break.

Max Payne 3‘s dive on to PC was in such slow motion that it took a few weeks longer to land than it did in augmented-televisionland. But it’s here now, and the critical shell-casings are beginning to chime on the concrete floor. Here’s how I heard them ring out.(more…)

Max Payne may be a grizzled, drug-addled alcoholic, but he's looking a heck of a lot prettier in his latest trailer. With today's launch of Max Payne 3 on PC, Rockstar doled out the latest clip from that platform's lofty graphical watermarks. That means more than just a better looking Max; this trailer has a better looking everything.

Max Payne 3 is coming to PC today! (Jim’s review should turn up next week.) If your consolebox-owning friends are incredibly dedicated to taunting you, they may have already beaten it somewhere in the realm of 22.4 times by now – assuming they’re playing in shifts. But I don’t imagine the image they have irreparably seared into their retinas looks anywhere near this nice. Rockstar’s assembled a new trailer “entirely from in-game PC footage,” and it does, in fact, look fairly snazzy. Admittedly, it’s nothing mind-blowing, and the trailer itself is oddly stilted and awkward given Rockstar’s usual eye for style, but still: good game, better on PC. All is right in the world.

Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Future Soldier had the best premiere of the franchise this past week in the UK. Five installments in (the first in 2001) Ghost Recon: Future Soldier saw its best week one sales of the series, but Chart-Track does note the series' previous entry had a staggered release across formats.

Max Payne 3 sales dropped 51 percent in its second week, but the pill-popping hero's dive -- like everything dramatic he does -- was done in slow motion and he ended up in second place. Capcom's "love it or hate it" Dragon's Dogma debuted in third.

Other new titles this week in the top 40 include Mario Tennis Open and Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock at 11 and 34, respectively. Now, put on a fez, fix that bow-tie and check out the UK top ten after the break. It's what's cool.

Max Payne 3 has shipped 3 million units since hitting shelves last week, publisher Take-Two Interactive revealed in its FY 2012 financial report.

Take-Two also announced Max Payne 3 is now scheduled with an international PC release date of June 1. Rockstar initially planned to launch Max Payne 3 for North American PCs on Tuesday, May 29, but has pushed that back to meet the standard European launch day of Friday that week. All's fair in love and gritty, noir-style war.

‘Cinematic’ should rightfully be a dirty word when discussing games and yet Max Payne 3′s marketing wears it proudly, like a sweat-stained vest or an inappropriately jaunty tie. A cutscene is cinematic, every detail and angle just so, no room for accident or deviation, but to aspire to a ‘cinematic’ experience during play is to ignore so much of what makes experiences within a game unique to the form. We run, gun and react in worlds that rely, for the enjoyment they bring, on the accidental and the curious as much as they require adherence to a plan. Here’s to the unexpected, the unplanned and the unforgettable.

We assume while everyone was waiting for the Diablo 3 servers to boot back up yesterday, they played as much Max Payne 3 as the downtime allowed. So, since everyone has finished the entire Max Payne 3 campaign, Rockstar is mixing up multiplayer gameplay with a free DLC pack for Xbox Live and PSN, titled "Gorilla Warfare."

The Gorilla Warfare pack contains a gorilla mask, which gives players extra adrenaline for melee kills from behind; the lucky coin, giving players extra booty for looting bodies; and the booby trap item, which has players' corpses explode when they're looted.

The Rockstar Pass is also now available for download on Xbox Live and PSN. The Rockstar Pass gives players all of the Max Payne 3 DLC for a one-time price of $30. These offers will hit PC on launch day, May 29.
