I am deathly afraid of heights, yet I desperately long to fly high above the clouds, unrestrained by any sort of machinery or the laws of physics. This is the complex duality of my nature. If I was actually granted the power of flight, I’d be the worst superhero ever – too busy screaming until I vomited a lung on confused bystanders to save anybody. But I digress. Secrets of Raetikon might just allow me to fulfill my fantasy without the disgusting particulars of reality getting in the way. It’s about gentle, feather-like swooping and soaring, and it hails from And Yet It Moves developer Broken Rules. In it, nature and ancient machinery and peaceful exploration collide. It looks delightful.

Oh goodness. Chasing Aurora, the latest from And Yet It Moves developer Broken Rules, looks like it’s really shaping up to be something special. It’s being billed as an “explorative 2D aerial action game about the dream of flight” in the “hostile environment of the Alps.” This mood teaser, though, demonstrates hostility on par with that of a kitten herd in a warm pillow and sunlight beam factory. It’s downright serene, but in a gloriously mesmerizing fashion. I think I’ve watched the all-too-brief trailer five or so times now, just to soak up all the little details of the wind’s undulating whistle and the music’s instrumental peaks and valleys in relation to the avian main character’s traversal of actual peaks and valleys. That screenshot doesn’t do this one justice. See it in oddly absorbing, physics-powered motion after the break.

Good news and less good news from the Humble Bundle camp today. The happier end of the bargain is that purchasers of the current Humble Bundle 4 now get the base contents of Humble Bundle 3 (i.e. VVVVVV, Crayon Physics Deluxe, Cogs, And Yet It Moves, and Hammerfight) added to their pack. That’s if they’ve bought HB4 already. If they haven’t, they’ll have to beat the average price to get the bonus goodies. The average price is currently $5.17 million.(more…)

First there was a Humble Indie Bundle. Then there was another Humble Indie Bundle. And now, there is a third Humble Indie Bundle! So it goes.

Yes, the pay-what-you-want pack that has brought welcome funds to indie devs and philanthropic organisations alike (not to mention giving gamers a fat pack of splendid indie games for bargain prices) has returned for a new Summer of fun. But which splendid indie games are in it, exactly? I’m glad you asked.

You know what to do…

This year has seen the concept of "pay what you want" sales explode onto the indie scene, with the likes of the Humble Indie Bundle and, more recently, Tale of Tales' catalog briefly going PWYW (or "pwhu-yew"). Now today -- and only today -- Broken Rules is breaking the rules of traditional pricing structures and letting you name the price for its world-rotating platformer, And Yet It Moves, for PC and Mac.

YAWMA, the online indie game and music site that's hosting the sale, is even willing to let you have the game for zero dollars, but you wouldn't be able to live with that on your conscience. Really -- we're telling you that you couldn't. What you can live with is knowing you bought a cool game and helped an independent dev afford to make another cool game.

If you're not a PC or Mac gamer, you can try a demo of AYIM on WiiWare next week -- but, if you like it, you'll need to PWNW ("pay what Nintendo wants").

And Yet It Moves, Broken Rules's cardboard-style, world-rotating platformer, is available for download on WiiWare in Europe today. You'll have to move 1,000 Wii Points out of your account to purchase the game, which came out this Monday in North America. WiiWare is also host to Tales of Elastic Boy Mission 1, a 600-Point sort-of platformer starring a little slime creature that can roll and attach to objects with its stretchy arms.

Meanwhile, DSiWare in Europe has myNotebook Carbon and myNotebook Pearl, two variations of Nnooo's notebook app. Also available: Where's Wally? Travel Pack 1. Yes, Wally. He always seems to be hidden behind Waldo.

A portion of a 1up review… You might die a little too easily at times, but with such a short campaign, and puzzles that are easy to figure out (if sometimes are hard to pull off) AYIM’s is an indie game worth owning on Wii.

As if summoned by our claim last week of the Virtual Console's death, Sunsoft swoops in with a really interesting Virtual Console game! Sunsoft (who also published the last one) might be the only company left releasing retro games on the Wii Shop.

WiiWare has a (single) interesting release as well: the physics-based puzzle platformer And Yet It Moves, which has moved from PC to WiiWare with new modes and some new levels.

This week, Nintendo leaked the release date for Broken Rules' world-rotating WiiWare platformer And Yet It Moves before changing it back to "TBD." Today, Broken Rules sent out a press release confirming that the stylish game will be available on the Wii Shop in North America on August 23 for 1,000 Wii Points.

And Yet It Moves, already available on PC, is a side-view platformer that forces players to periodically rotate the view by 90 degrees, turning walls into floors. If you haven't seen it -- and want to be unexpectedly charmed by Wii control demonstrations -- check out the trailer after the break. Actually, even if you've already played the PC version, you should watch this trailer. It looks like a lot of work went into it.

Long before I knew about And Yet It Moves heading to WiiWare, I downloaded it through Steam. I’m a sucker for a gorgeous game, and And Yet It Moves is definitely shining in that category. I like games that push visuals in new ways, not in shiny, higher-polygon count methods. Most of [...]
