LostWinds Coming to iOS, Which is a Very Good Thing

There was just something gentle and calming about playing with the air in LostWinds.

I won't hold it against you if you haven't played Frontier Development's excellent LostWinds series--it was released on WiiWare, after all. I've been waiting for Frontier Development to bring LostWinds elsewhere, and according to Eurogamer, that's happening on the iPhone and iPad.

It looks like both LostWinds and LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias are coming to start off, with the potential for additional installments down the line. Whatever gets me more LostWinds, I'm game.

It also appears the games will be coming to Android, as well.

The original LostWinds was one of the first great games released for Nintendo's underappreciated service. On the Wii, the remote manipulated the wind and propelled objects and your character around the environment, leading to some clever puzzles.

The official announcement hasn't come down the pike yet, so other using our minds to imagine how the motion controls translate to touch (it's pretty easy to figure out, actually), we'll have to wait for Frontier Development to release details.

It's an unexpectedly packed week for Nintendo downloaders! On WiiWare, there's a game that should be wonderful and another that should be, uh, interesting. There's an arcade classic on Virtual Console, and DSiWare features the arrival of one of the weirdest game series to be announced at E3: a set of five games based on NHK mascot and generally adorable monster Domo-kun.

A portion of a Eurogamer review… …Frontier’s sequel is also a lot more complex and dynamic, and yet it’s managed to retain the same unforced charm. With its cherry blossom, spindly shrines and gentle characters, the original LostWinds always seemed worryingly delicate in its prettiness: this installment proves that the series is robust enough to withstand [...]

A portion of an IGN UK review… Winter of the Melodias represents an essential purchase. It’s not simply the best WiiWare title on the market, but one of the best Wii games full stop.
