Zelda: Skyward Sword has arrived at the IGN offices. To say the IGN Nintendo team has been anticipating this day for a while would be a bit of an understatement. We've opened up the box and taken photos and a video (video coming soon!) of everything inside for you. Check out what you can get on November 20...

#zelda The mailman may have squashed our copy of the Wii's new Zelda game, but that doesn't appear to have impacted the quality of the game's intro. Fresh from Nintendo to our Wii here at Kotaku, behold the first few minutes of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (up until we get control of Link). More »

For years Zelda's producers have maintained that they know a true order for the iconic Nintendo franchise, despite many of the games seemingly overlapping and contradicting each other in subtle and significant ways. Even the most dedicated fans only have theories, none of them verified or completely flawless...

Despite the obvious perils of venturing into volcanoes and "fire sanctuaries," our hero Link (of Zelda's lengthy legend) takes to both potentially fatal locales with his usual aplomb in these latest trailers for The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. Be careful, little Link!

As October comes to a close, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword's release on November 20 is now just a stone's throw away. In just over three weeks we'll finally have the chance to get our hands on what looks to be Link's most epic adventure yet. In many ways, the game shakes up the Zelda formula - blending tried and true concepts with a handful of daring risks that, from what we've seen so far, are paying off big time...

"While it's true that these wider slices of envirnomental exploration revolve essentially around finding and collecting things, it's a forumula that's twisted up so often that the repititon is hidden behind a carefully caluclated smokescreen of fun."

"Zelda: Skyward Sword may be the swansong for the Wii, and may be overshadowed by a mere tech demo that showed Link in unrivaled detail on Nintendo's next-generation offering. But it's the game the Wii was born to run, and a Zelda game that showcases the kind of talent and ingenuity many seem recently to have entirely forgotten that Nintendo is really all about. Spellbinding, dramatic and absolutely epic in both the world it paints and the story it tells, Zelda: Skyward Sword is a hugely important event for the Wii, for Nintendo, and for anyone with even a passing love for the venerable series it celebrates. But overall, it's an utterly essential videogame; a flash of fantastical brilliance in an increasingly commercial field of production line entertainment. Buffed and polished to a perfect point, Zelda: Skyward Sword is one in the eye for the naysayers, and a spectacular return to form for its developer; a solemn reminder that, when it comes to crafting worlds, nobody does it quite like Nintendo."

A portion of an EDGE review...

Nintendo has been so busy elaborating on Ocarina’s heroic ideal that it’s forgotten to embrace it for itself. So what better way to honour 25 years of bravery than courageously striving for something new? And what opportune hardware to cut those ties.

ONM has taken the time to answer some reader questions concerning The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. They've played the game all the way through, and can offer some more insight on elements of the game we've previously heard about. Skip this story if you're not looking for spoilers!

- no limit to amount of one item you can carry
- no Tingle
- there are three unconnected chunks of Hyrule that you access from the Sky Realm by flying through one of the three portals in the clouds - Eldin Volcano, Faron Woods and the desert area
- you can hit down on the D-pad to re-centre the cursor
- you can finish the game without upgrading a single item or potion.
- all of the NPCs are named characters
- most of them have their own house on the island
- many NPC sidequests reward you with gratitude points, which are then used on another, larger side-quest
- reviewer says it's easier than Ocarina Of Time and Twilight Princess
- hints at other returning characters
- main theme is used in some creative, goosebump-inducing ways too
- Wind Waker's Great Sea is larger than the Sky overworld
- Skyward Sword's has Hyrule
- visit the Silent Realm a number of times
- the dark-skinned blonde woman is a very important character, and one you might remember from another Zelda game
