#batman Green Lantern was not critically acclaimed. Nearly everyone hated it, but that won't stop it from getting a Blu Ray release. And with its Extended Cut Blu-Ray Combo pack is a skin dressing Batman in a Sinestro Corps getup for Batman: Arkham City, should you have the PS3 version. More »

The Times Square Toys R Us location will hold an event on Monday, October 17, where 500 copies of Batman: Arkham City will be available a day early. The first 100 customers who pre-purchase a copy of the game through the store's "Personal Shopping Department" (starting now, we guess?), will receive a ticket reserving their copy, along with having the opportunity to have their game autographed by Jim Lee (co-publisher at DC Entertainment), Kevin Conroy (the voice of Batman) and Sefton Hill (B:AC Game Director from Rocksteady Studios) at the event.

The other 400 copies will be available for purchase at the event, which officially starts at 4PM, but who knows when people start lining up. The event will include photo ops with actors dressed up as Batman and Catwoman, and the ability to demo the game.

Obviously, keep your eye on the prize. You could get Batman: Arkham City a day before those who wander in the outside world pick it up from the store, or those with Amazon Prime longingly stare out the window for any glimpse of the UPS man.

The seemingly endless drip-feed of character announcements for Batman: Arkham City is starting to get on my wick. Yes, we know there will be supervillains in the game. Can we not just play it now? Please? Also in there, Mr Marketing has slowly told us, are a raft of playable Bat-Chums, including Batman’s diminutive protege Robin, who’s been redesigned as a sort of scrappy thug. Why would anyone want to play as Robin instead of Batman? I mean, Robin. But you can see the speedy wee fellow in action below.(more…)

Batman: Arkham City's character roster is starting to get a little crowded! The new episode of Qore, added to PSN last night, offers a look at yet another villain that will stalk the locked-down streets of Gotham.

YouTube user MrKQGaming captured the relevant segment of Qore, which you'll have to watch closely to catch the new villain (amongst all those other villains). We've got a screencap after the break, just for those of you daring enough to see the villain's identity before the game launches later this month.

#batman Traveling about Arkham City need not be done on foot or primarily by grappling hook. The game's developer, Rocksteady, laid out the city to take advantage of Batman's ability to grapple to a ledge and then launch off that point into a long glide. Theoretically, you could go from one end of Arkham to the other in this way, I was told way back at Comic-Con. More »

More screens here

#batman Now, OK. Do keep in mind that this is "Comic Book Death" we're talking about here, which is only slightly above "Anime Death" in terms of "deaths that don't really count." But sad to say, it does look as though very early on in Batman: Arkham City, the J-man will bite the big one, and we'll spend the majority of the game free from his jolly jeers. More »
Catwoman's Sins in Batman: Arkham City

So, why Catwoman?

I know it's something nice and extra for the fans, and in the context of Batman: Arkham City's story, I'm all for Catwoman, but why? Why include just about every Batman character ever this time around?

Dax Ginn, marketing game manager for Rocksteady, told me that players nowadays don't always want to be the good guy. "It's not always fun being the righteous arm of justice, so we wanted to explore what it was like to be a criminal within Arkham City, as well. Catwoman became a great option to explore that."

But maybe it's simpler than that. "We kind of look around at other games," Ginn said, "and it's obvious that some players like breaking the rules."

With less than three weeks to go for console players, it seems kind of ridiculous to write a preview about Batman: Arkham City. When we first saw this Batman: Arkham City Xbox bundle, outed by Amazon Germany, we assumed it was the fancy custom console given away to one lucky PAX-goer; instead, this bundle includes a 250GB matte black Xbox 360, the usual headset and controller, and a copy of the game.

At €279.99, that puts this console at just a €30 premium over the un-Batman'd Xbox offering. Though it may not have a fancy paint job, it respects the fact that we're not all Bruce Wayne.

Arkham City is going to be packed full of villains but the place wouldn’t be complete without the Joker. We knew he was going to be there, of course, but this trailer tells us a little bit more about what he’ll be doing. Referring to deadly plans while holding up a twisted carnival mirror to Batman’s unsmiling granite face and cackling like Luke Skywalker’s demented uncle, that’s what he’ll be doing. Nothing much new then, although he is looking more horrible than ever and hopefully now he’s not pulling all the strings (unless he is), he’ll be more chaotic and frightening. Just when I’m feeling extremely happy at the idea of beating up goons and twirling my cape in their faces, the trailer ends with a release date. It’s not the right one though.
