Anomalies are so named because they go nom nom nom and eat everything that investigates them. It’s true! Something else that’s true is that tower-defence-but-in-reverse game Anomaly: Warzone Earth now has a demo out, and you can get it here. Jim got on well with Anomaly, calling it a “novel idea, well-presented… well-executed”, and even comparing it to Defense Grid. I’ve spawned some footage of the game itself after the jump.(more…)

#impressions I think the moment where Anomaly Warzone Earth-I don't see a colon on the game's website; letting all three words of the title evenly plod from the mouth pleasingly highlights its Eastern European pedigree-really grabbed me was the first time I rerouted my caravan of tanks and mechanized walkers to loop to endlessly pummel a poor, doomed laser turret. An otherworldly dome eclipses the minarets that once made up the skyline of Baghdad. Beneath that strange energy field, dubbed the Anomaly, something stirs in the wake of an alien ship crash. Unverified reports say the invaders have set up defenses surrounding the wreckage, but unconfirmed theories don't cut it anymore. The good news: Strategy fans will get their hands on the arcade-inspired RTS action of Anomaly Warzone Earth on April 8 for $10 through services like Steam and GamersGate. You'll lead Earth's forces through the defenses set up by alien invaders, in what Polish developer 11 bit is describing as "reverse tower defense," a taste of which is offered in the gameplay video after the break. Also, we're told the previously announced iOS version is still in the works, though no date has been set.

The bad news: In the five months since Anomaly Warzone Earth was first announced, it still has the same title. Heartbreaking.
