With MLB 11 The Show, we’ve built upon our improvements to the realism by including stadium-specific jumbotrons, true-to-life out-of-town scoreboards, and weather effects such as rain and new improved skies and cloud coverage. These realistic enhancements to the game help make MLB 11 The Show not only look like the real thing, but they truly give you the feeling that you are at a live game. Here’s a video to show you what I mean…

New to this year’s version of The Show is having real and fully functional stadium specific jumbotrons and out of town scoreboards. What this means is that each MLB jumbotron was duplicated by our artists to authentic and look exactly like the real thing. The jumbotrons now show the team’s lineups, statistics, and full video boards, and as you can see by the attention to detail they do they look amazing! Now you check out your favorite team’s jumbotron and all of its bells and whistles. This accuracy gives you the feeling that you are watching a real-life baseball game, it’s that detailed!

Last year we added quite a bit to our skies, stadium shadows, and night time look, but this year we wanted to make MLB 11 The Show even more dynamic so we set out to add rain and fog. The rain varies over the course of the game, and has a definite visual impact on the field. You will see the stadium lights come on in overcast days, and weather is tuned based on region and time of year. In MLB 11 night skies received a major facelift and now vary from late afternoon, to warm sunsets with sunlit clouds, to cool twilight colors, and finally full night time affects. The time of day that the sun sets is now calculated based on the latitude and longitude of the stadium, the month, date, and year, and the time zone, so that your season game’s look and feel reflect the real world.

Adding stadium specific jumbotrons and out of town scoreboards was an important request by our community and fans, so we’re very happy that we were able to accomplish these new features. Our goal is always to make your favorite team, stadium, or fans look, feel, and sound just like the real thing and it’s definitely reflected in MLB 11 The Show. We appreciate your feedback and listen to our fans, as we try to make the best game possible year after year. Thanks for your continued support, we hope you enjoy MLB 11 The Show when it arrives on March 8, 2011. Be sure to visit us at www.TheShowNation.com.

Welcome to The Show!

Sports fans –

We’re only a few weeks away from Spring Training which means baseball season is almost here! So before pitchers and catchers report, we thought we’d show you our new MLB 11 The Show trailer, entitled “In a Jam.” As you’ll see in the video, flamethrower and AL Rookie of the Year Neftali Feliz has been called in to finish off Angels All-Star Torii Hunter. With one out and runners at the corners, a ground ball could end the threat. Can the Rangers turn 2?

More than ever before, MLB 11 The Show showcases the real-life intensity and drama of Major League Baseball. “In a Jam” is the first in a series of three cinematic trailers that demonstrate the photo-realistic visuals and stadium designs, custom animations, and heart-pounding action that The Show will be bringing in 2011. But the experience doesn’t stop there—MLB 11 features Pure Analog controls, all new co-op play (online and offline), an improved Road to The Show mode, and the ability to compete for real-world prizes in the all new Challenge of the Week.

Check back soon for more MLB 11 The Show announcements and stay tuned for Chapter 2… “Yankee Killer.” Don’t forget: Reserve and Purchase MLB 11 The Show and receive FREE 30 days MLB.TV on your PS3!

#stickjockey He'd given up six runs in three innings of work when MLB 10 The Show sent the manager out to remove him from the game. Even in a video game, the bad losses stick with you. They stick with Hans Smith a little more. More »

Sony's San Diego studio is taking a rare step to allow gamers with disabilities to play MLB 11: a one-button gameplay mode. In the "Association for Disabled Virtual Athletes" mode, AI handles the fielding, and players only have to press one button in order to swing the bat or pitch, allowing gamers who might not be able to throw a baseball to wield a baseball-style Dual Shock with ease.

The mode was inspired by Hans Smith, a baseball superfan with cerebral palsy, whose limited mobility made it impossible for him to play real baseball and difficult to play video game baseball. Sony San Diego added him to last year's MLB game as an avatar and went one step further this year, with the disability-friendly gameplay mode.

"Some organizations for disabled people aren't available to everyone -- you have to live in a big city," Smith told ESPN. "Plus, you still run the risk of getting hurt. But with a virtual organization, you can adjust the settings to whatever you want. If you can't do anything but push one button, then you can control everything else via the artificial intelligence. This levels the playing field for people who are otherwise outside the sports arena."

Sports! If there’s two things that baseball has ever taught me it’s that 1) hot girls love the sport and 2) MLB 11 The Show faithfully recreates the favorite American pastime on the PS3. But don’t take my word for it, Jeff and I tracked down community manager Ramone Russell who gave us an in-depth look at the new (alternative) analog control mechanics, new four-player co-op mode, the 3D experience and PlayStation Move functionality.

Baseball, 3D, Move support and hot girls? Sold. Also, the above video proves that anything can happen when my camera is rolling. Now can someone grab me a hot dog?

Next year's iteration of Sony's MLB series will include a special treat for baseball fans. Sure, there's a laundry list of features, such as PlayStation Move support, 3D, and a new analog control system -- but our eyes bolted towards the free trial of MLB.TV. If you pre-order and purchase the game, you'll get 30 days of access to MLB's premium on-demand service, which is also available on the PS3. Given a season membership costs $100, the trial is certainly a nice perk.

To coincide with the launch of MLB 11, Sony has announced yet another limited-edition DualShock 3 controller. A white PS3 controller with baseball stripes will be available on March 8th, the same day as MLB 11, and will retail for $55.
