Indie developer Radiangames (Powerpuff Girls: Defenders of Townsville) has been forced to remove one of its games from multiple online storefronts in the wake of a recent trademark dispute from an online games publisher.

The disputed title is Crossfire, a retro-styled shoot-'em-up originally released for the Xbox Live Indie Games (XBLIG) service in 2010. Following the release of an XBLIG sequel, the series later made its way to PC and iOS devices under the name Super Crossfire.

Developer Luke Schneider researched the title before releasing his game, but didn't notice that online games publisher G4Box launched the similarly-titled free-to-play military FPS Cross Fire for PC platforms in 2009. After recently announcing Cross Fire 2, G4Box filed a trademark dispute against Schneider's game, resulting in its upcoming removal from all available platforms.

"[Super Crossfire] barely makes any money these days, and I'm not spending thousands of dollars to try to fight the issue when I just want to make games," Schneider explains. "I can't say too many bad things about someone who's enforcing the trademark according to the law, though I do think it's completely obvious Super Crossfire is not an attempt in any way to infringe on their trademark, and I also don't think there's any confusion over the two games (arcade shooter vs. online F2P FPS)."

Schneider's game has already been removed from iTunes, and will be delisted from Desura, GamersGate, and XBLIG this Friday. Schneider has considered renaming the game for a future PC re-release, and is currently polling fans for suggestions.

#gamingappoftheday Last October I was excited to announce that former Xbox Live Indie Games developer Radiangames was getting into iOS gaming business with the frantic 2D shooter Super Crossfire. Then my iPad screen cracked. And my iPhone got dropped out of a speeding car. More »

If we learned one thing in the Girl Scouts (don't judge -- you'd join for the Thin Mints too), it was to always be prepared... for the zombie apocalypse. Sure, you have a crossbow, an axe and a stash of high-powered weaponry in the barn out back, but what about the downtime? Yahtzee is fun for two weeks, or until you suspect Grandma of loading the dice, but after that you'll need to find some other entertainment.

The Quadtastic Launch Collection from Radiangames offers four new titles for PC and Mac, at a $10 pre-order price. The Collection drops Jan. 24 and will be $12 from then on out -- it includes Inferno+, Ballistic, Slydris and Fireball, all styled in the same techno-pretty tone as Radiangames' previous title, Super Crossfire, which was included in the Indie Royale New Year's Bundle.

Radiangames will donate a sliding percentage of sales to Child's Play and St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital charities, so even if you don't care about the zombie apocalypse, you can care about some kids in need.

Radian Games are doing a bit of showing off in converting their games to PC and Mac, I think, because they’re release four of them at once on January 24th, basically setting up their own bundle in the process. The $10 bundle includes Inferno+, Ballistic, Slydris, Fireball, and a tech demo. AND he’s giving a slice of the money to charity. AND the games are all fairly entertaining. AND there’s a slightly more expensive version that includes Super Crossfire. AND it’s Friday! Hooray!

“Quadtastic” and Super Crossfire trailer below. (Cheers, Lewie.)(more…)

Indie Royale has lifted the beautiful silver lid from its New Year's Bundle games -- Nuclear Dawn, Fractal, Max & the Magic Marker and Super Crossfire, the last of which is marked as an Indie Royale exclusive. The New Year's Bundle was released as a mystery earlier this week and was available for blind pre-order at $3.99, with a free copy of George & Jonathan's chiptune album, "Beautiful Lifestyle" for early-buyers' faith.

Indie Royale bundles increase in price as the sale continues, but paying more than the minimum knocks that price down, and gets you a free copy of George & Jonathan's chiptune goodness to boot. There are just under five days left to snag the Indie Royale New Year's Eve Bundle -- and don't judge it for celebrating the new year one week late. We know some of you are still feeling the annual effects of the new year, too.

#crossfire Last year Luke Schneider of radiangames released seven gorgeous shooters via the Xbox Live Indie Games program, each one better than the last. Then he stopped making Xbox Live Indie games, and I was sad. Come October 13, I'll be happy again. More »
