The dark, foreboding wilderness of open-world survival adventure Don't Starve just grew a bit more eerie with today's debut of the Reign of Giants DLC expansion.

Once installed, players will find a Reign of Giants content toggle on the Don't Starve main menu. Activating this option enables the DLC content, and allows players to unlock new characters, new items, new seasons and new biomes. As you'd expect, these new regions of the game also bring with them new creatures who may serve as delicious meals, or the final straw straining your in-game sanity until your pixelated brain bursts into a kaleidoscope of swelling shadows and horrible beasts.

Though today brings Reign of Giants to the PC, Mac and Linux incarnations of Don't Starve, those enjoying the game on PlayStation 4 will be waiting a bit for their version of the DLC. We're out of April Fools territory, so we can safely report a new Steam page for Half-Minute Hero: The Second Coming lists the speedy sequel's release date as Friday, April 4. The date was first revealed in a trailer published yesterday, but it also noted a price of $1,000... we're guessing that bit's slightly inaccurate. Hopefully.

The follow-up to Half-Minute Hero was previously limited to Japan, where it was released on PSP back in 2011. The sequel follows the motif of chaotic RPG questing in portions of 30 seconds, but adds new features to the mix including four-player multiplayer, Infinite Battle and Time Attack modes, and a map editor.

The Second Coming features Big Picture and controller support, and Steam owners of the original Half-Minute Hero get a 25 percent discount on the sequel... that's hopefully not 25 percent of $1,000. [Image: Marvelous AQL]

Cliffhanger Productions has launched its turn-based tactical multiplayer RPG Shadowrun Online via Steam Early Access, giving wannabe deckers and samurai a preliminary look at their dystopian cyberpunk future.

The result of a successful Kickstarter campaign, Shadowrun Online is set 20 years after the events of last year's Shadowrun Returns, building on the previous game's storyline with new settings, characters, and missions. The final version will deliver co-op gameplay and an in-depth PvP component, along with an array of item and character customization options.

Cliffhanger Productions notes that the current Steam version lacks many features that are planned for the finished product, however. "This is the most basic early access version - it contains four missions and a 1 vs 1 player PvP, but no character creation, progression or anything else yet - this will all come in time," the developer warns. "We want to make sure the basic combat gameplay works well before we pile more features on it."

Shadowrun Online is regularly priced at $29.99, but is available for $20.99 during its debut week.

Age of Wonders III is Now Available on Steam!

Age of Wonders III is the long anticipated sequel to the award-winning strategy series. Delivering a unique mix of Empire Building, Role Playing and Warfare, Age of Wonders III offers the ultimate in turn-based fantasy strategy for veterans of the series and new players alike!

Wildlife survival sim Shelter is getting a follow-up where instead of playing as a badger looking after her litter, you take on the role of a mother lynx progressing through a journey of parenthood and protection. The PC sequel, which Atari appears to have missed the boat on, is coming to Steam, GOG, and other digital platforms sometime in the fall.

"The beauty of nature goes hand in hand with its unforgiving rawness," said developer Might & Delight while stroking its beard from atop of a mountain. "That is central in Shelter 2, and one of the reasons we chose to make a game about a Lynx. They are in [the] middle of the food chain, and there are far more vicious things out on the cold tundra..."

The Swedish indie studio said it's bringing "more elaborate gameplay features" to Shelter 2, and including more stamina, more varied movements, and greater maternal control over your cubs. The sequel also introduces a hub-like den that acts as a central sanctuary, and "much bigger" environments that Might & Delight hopes players return to and re-explore.
