In a blog post celebrating the acquisition of a new office space, the developers behind Starbound claim that having all of their personnel under one roof will allow the studio to issue more frequent content updates for the sandbox exploration game.

"The programmers have been putting the finishing touches on the system we're going to use to push updates more frequently," wrote Starbound creator Finn "Tiy" Brice. "Essentially we're separating content updates and engine updates. Content updates are going to be pushed to the server as and when content is finished being produced, we're no longer going to wait on engine updates to push them out at the same time. This also means engine updates will get additional internal testing."

"The artists have been working on a bunch of new content that's pretty much ready to go as soon as this is done. We'll also be adding the best/most fitting mods to the game with increased frequency," added Brice. "The pace is really going to pick up." Brice also notes that these more frequent content updates will not increase Starbound's version number. Though this won't impact most players, it a thoughtful touch for Starbound modders who would otherwise need to update their mods to match the new version number each time Brice's team adds a new carnivorous plant creature to the game. There's another batch of daily deals for Xbox Live end-of-year sale, and today's batch supposedly comprise "2D modern classics," namely Terraria, Spelunky, and Fez. Putting aside if you can even call something a "modern classic," isn't that forgetting that whole other dimension of Fez? No, we didn't mean Phil Fish.

Anyway, we're not here to talk semantics: For today only, Fez and Spelunky are cut by 75 percent to $2.49 and $3.74 respectively, while Terraria digs down to a third of its normal price at $4.94. Also, don't forget the Xbox 360 Store has a whole bunch of games staying discounted across the week, including FIFA 14, Bioshock Infinite, and Castle of Illusion.

We’re delighted to be giving PS Vita players the chance to jump into the world of Terraria, and satisfy the requests of so many fans in the process. The core game that so many Terrarians know and love remains the same, however the Vita has allowed us to introduce a bunch of new features and functionality, making the Vita version super-fun to play and great looking at the same time!

It’s the revamped control system that’s seen the most focus this time around, in terms of really delivering something new and unique; introducing touch support to make the gameplay experience more immediate, tactile, and absorbing. You can use touch controls to combine and craft intuitively within the item interface, but also when digging, building, and creating your own environments — this time with added finesse.

11327810804_49e01b14b6_n.jpg11327811464_39d49fa012_n.jpg

You can also jump in and enjoy online multiplayer with up to eight players, whether that’s battling each other in a fight for survival, or teaming up to take on bosses and build bigger and better worlds together. Not only that, but you’ve got the added benefits of cross platform play and cross save with your PS3. Play Terraria against whoever you want, wherever you want, however you want.

The Vita version gives you all the original Terraria content, in your hands, along with a glimpse of the new content from the recent 1.2 PC update too (more details here).

There really has never been a better time to pick up and play Terraria.

505 Games has released an update for the iOS and Android versions of its 2D sandbox action-adventure game Terraria, adding a new holiday-themed world and a variety of Christmas cheer-infused customization options.

Starting this month, Terraria players might pick up a Christmas ornament while chopping down trees. Use this ornament and you'll summon Elfa, a new pet. Afterward, any new world you create will be a winter wonderland filled with more pets to collect, and enemy mobs will have a chance of dropping Christmas presents.

The PC version of Terraria hosts its own unique variation on the holiday, allowing players to meet up with Santa Claus and earn presents during gameplay.

Did you know that it’s nearly Halloween? I’m only telling you because I definitely wouldn’t have any idea unless every game under the sun (or foreboding, fog-enshrouded moon, as it were) was running some kind of Halloween event. But these things can actually be decently fun when handled well, and this one, especially, is quite noteworthy given that it may well end up one of the final things that Redigit himself adds to Terraria. So then, what’s in it? What indeed.

No, I’m not actually going to do that to you. Goodie bags and themed pets and tiles and items and things! Also, a mysterious Pumpkin Moon event. Sweet, sweet trick-or-treat deets below.

Terraria creator Andrew Spinks has plans to bring the RPG's sequel to multiple plaforms close to the release of the PC game. Spinks told Pocket Gamer he wants "to code Terraria 2 in a more portable language so it can be released on multiple platforms at launch or close to launch."

One platform the game won't appear on is Nintendo's 3DS, though. "3DS is something I was very interested in getting Terraria on but the system unfortunately cannot run Terraria the way it needs to be ran," he added. Spinks discussed his plans for Terraria 2 earlier this month, saying that while the game is not yet in development, he would like for it to feature "infinite worlds" for players to travel between.

The original game is expected to be updated further, with its version 1.2 patch arriving at the beginning of October, though the developer said he has considered bringing a small team in to offer support for Terraria while he moves on to Terraria 2.

Your squad of murderous annelids just got a bit more pixelated with the introduction of new, Terraria-themed content to Worms 3.

Available now as a free update, this new content includes six new hats drawn from the Terraria item bank, as well as "5 Terraria themed gravestones and a Terraria speechbank." The additions also include 11 Halloween-themed customization items and a handful of bug fixes said to improve the game's asynchronous multiplayer as well as its overall performance.

Today's best news however, is that to celebrate this update developer Team 17 has reduced the price of the iOS-exclusive Worms 3 to 99 cents - 80 percent less than its usual $5 price point. This new, lower price will only be available for a limited time. Those interested in Worms 3 can find full details on the App Store.

Edge of Space is yet another one of those reminders that game development has gone completely bonkers in recent years. Like direct inspiration Terraria before it, Edge of Space offers massive, bit-and-bob-and-secret-and-jetpack-laser-shark-packed worlds, despite being developed by an itsy bitsy team of two. It’s also run the full gamut of crowd-powered developmental aids – from Kickstarter to Steam Greenlight to Steam Early Access. Lead developer Jake Crane has, in other words, been around the block. But in an ever-expanding genre with a single game’s influence looming heavy, how do you avoid being more than just a clone? And is the trend of Early Access actually a danger in disguise – both for gamers and developers? Also, what’s on the horizon for Edge of Space, a game that’s still very much unfinished? I spoke with Crane about all that and more.

Terraria creator Andrew Spinks recently discussed his plans for Terraria 2, the direct sequel to the popular RPG from developer Re-Logic. "Terraria 2 is definitely something that will be happening but contrary to several of the articles that went live today I have not started development," Spinks told Joystiq. "I have a list of features and mechanics I want the game to have but that is the extent of the development at this point."

As far as those features are concerned, Spinks told Rock Paper Shotgun that while Terraria 2 is "a ways out," it will "have a lot in common with the original. It's gonna be quite different as well. I really want to expand on the whole Terraria universe."

Spinks said that he is "locked" in to some of Terraria's established mechanics, such as "the way loot works" and "the way character progression works." With Terraria 2, Spinks said he wants "to have infinite worlds so you're not just stuck to one world. You can travel anywhere. I want more biome diversity in that, too."

As for Terraria, he added that the recently-launched version 1.2 will probably be "the last seven-month update" for the original game, but that he plans to finish the "endgame progression" for the update "within the next month or two," as the update didn't include a final boss. He noted that while there may be other updates three or four months down the road, he has "looked into maybe hiring another small team to continue updates while I move onto Terraria 2."

Once upon a time, Andrew “Redigit” Spinks quit Terraria. He’d decided to move on to bigger and better things, mystery projects that beckoned to him from worlds far beyond Terraria’s treacherous loam. Fans were not happy. They scratched angry words into many an Internet, but their cries fell on deaf ears. For a little while. And then, kind of like Gandalf in that one movie (X-Men?), Redigit returned – with gifts, even! Update 1.2 is positively massive, and it’s finally out. But now Spinks is back where he started. Should he stay or should he go? He’s not entirely sure yet, but he was able to offer RPS one piece of enticing news. That mystery project? It’s Terraria 2.

The next update for Terraria's PC incarnation arrives on October 1, according to the game's Facebook page.

Described as Terraria's "biggest addition yet," the 1.2 patch adds a host of new content to the game. Players can expect to cast magic spells, wield beam sabers (think: lightsabers, without the IP infringement) and ride on unicorn mounts. New biomes, furniture, clothing options and enemies are also said to be present. A full list of every addition found in the 1.2 patch is not yet available, but the Terrarian Times offers a solid overview of what you can expect to find.

It is currently unknown if the additions delivered by the 1.2 patch will make their way into the console or mobile versions of Terraria.

Once upon a time, Terraria died. The end. That is roughly how I hope my posthumous biography is written, only my name is Nathan. I also hope my tale continues like this: But then, as if by sorcery or some really cool-looking robot parts, Terraria/Nathan sprang out of the grave and dredged up all sorts of crazy new features like a giant bee. Also penguins. That, however, is only the tip of the iceberg. Despite its diminutive numerical status, 1.2 is apparently a massive update, bringing with it copious new mechanics, enemies, menus, items, pets, and more. Dig into the loamy depths below for a highly enticing trailer.

Downloadable hit Terraria will be released in both digital and standard retail box form when it reaches Europe later this month.

Initially released on the PC in 2011, Terraria has since appeared on iOS, Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. To date the game has sold more than 2 million digital copies, but for certain European territories publisher 505 Games has decided on a more traditional sales method.

"Different territories have different digital acceptance," said Tim Woodley, director of brand management at 505 Games. "We're releasing Terraria in a box in September as we think the lack of digital uptake in France, Germany, Italy etc is prohibiting sales. Terraria has done incredibly via digital, but most of the numbers are from the US."

Terraria was released in Japan this past May and has so far sold 110,000 copies. The majority of these have been retail box sales, Woodley claimed.

Terraria is a 2D sandbox survival adventure game. Edge of Space is a 2D sandbox exploration game. Like peanut butter and jelly, the two will now meet in a tasty cross-over event, bringing Terraria content to Edge of Space, developers Re-Logic and HandyMan Studios announced.

Those attending PAX Prime in Seattle this weekend can get their hands on the Terraria-inspired content at Reverb Publishing's booth (#3436). Among the goodies arriving in Edge of Space is a "cybernetically-enhanced version of Terraria's skeletron boss," Omegatron. Edge of Space is available via Steam Early Access for $11.99. Terraria, meanwhile, launches on iOS today for $4.99.

Re-Logic put development duties in the hands of Codeglue, who redesigned the controls for a multi-touch interface, and implemented other tweaks to make the game work in a portable setting. The game has also been optimized for retina display. Terrarria is planned for Android and Windows Phone devices "soon."

Terraria already dug up the dirt on PC, XBLA and PSN, and this summer it's heading to tablets and phones - specifically iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8, 505 Games confirmed to Polygon following an initial announcement on Terraria Online.

Terraria mobile will have leaderboards, achievements and Facebook integration, and it's in development by Codeglue, with a complete revamp for touchscreen interfaces. Codeglue is responsible for Rocket Riot on XBLA, iOS and Windows Phone, and this year's PSN and Steam platformer, ibb & obb.

Terraria is still on its way to Vita this summer, ported by Engine Software.

The console version of Terraria arrived worldwide on Xbox 360 and in North America back in March, while European PSN players have been waiting patiently for their chance. Or maybe they haven't been patient. We haven't polled anyone.

Anyway, the point is Terraria will be out on PS3 in Europe and Australia on May 15, at a €14.99 / £11.99 price point.

If you still don't mind waiting, a Vita version is on the way later this summer.

Terraria on consoles may be the latest rage, but the PC original hasn't been forgotten. Developer Andrew "Redigit" Spinks recently took to the Terraria Online forums to tease an upcoming update. He posted two images of the update, along with another image on Facebook. The images depict some lovely waterfalls and clouds, and one forum goer points out what may be a new weapon.

According to Redigit, there are both regular clouds and rain clouds, and both can be placed anywhere and mined. We're not really sure what you could make with cloud ore, but there you go. The update is slated to arrive in the "next few months.

Your voices have been heard, and it’s my great pleasure to announce that after much discussion the teams at 505 Games, Engine Software, and Re-Logic have decided to continue our exciting journey together and bring Terraria to PS Vita! That’s right, folks – Terraria will be available to play anytime, anywhere. It’s almost like we never sleep!

8591367419_2bc821ffeb_z.jpg

Ever since we announced that Terraria was coming to PS3, we’ve been overwhelmed by requests for a Vita version. We’re tremendous fans of the PS Vita system, and with its touch controls, dual analog sticks, gorgeous display, and robust online features, it seemed like a natural fit. PS Vita is a great platform for digital games in particular, and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it.

For those who haven’t heard of Terraria, it’s a sandbox adventure in the style of our favorite “Metroidvania” games – an indie darling on PC that has gathered an impassioned community and sold over two million copies.

As a sandbox game, it has all the endless possibilities you’ve come to expect – you can build with dozens of blocks and craft hundreds of items – yet it’s unique in how easy it is to pick up and play because of its platformer controls and familiar 16-bit graphics.

8591367569_bcbd28b902_z.jpg

The core of the game focuses on exploring the sprawling, randomly-generated worlds with their exotic biomes and deep underworlds, as well as slaying the hordes of monsters and evil bosses contained within. As you progress on your adventure you mine stronger ores with which to craft better weapons and armor, and collect magical treasures to help you become any type of hero you can imagine. Laser rifles, wands, potions, flamethrowers, shark launchers – Terraria has it all.

The true soul of the game shows in its multiplayer. Adventuring with (or fighting against) your friends in massive worlds is an absolute blast. Just like the PlayStation 3 version, Terraria on PS Vita will support up to eight simultaneous online players, along with competitive leaderboards and (extremely) challenging Trophies!

8591367295_40b0d38b5e_z.jpg

The joy of Terraria is in its sense of discovery – you never quite know what is around the next corner. The game plays great in both small chips or large chunks of time — again, perfect for PS Vita. One thing is for sure – you’ll soon be racking up hours upon hours of gameplay time. In Terraria, the world is your canvas, so make it your own!

More details will follow, so stay tuned for further announcements. And if you have any questions, let us know!

Terraria will meet its projected console launch window, with PSN and Xbox Live downloads available in North America on March 26 and March 27, respectively. Terraria is priced at 1200 MS Points ($15).

Re-Logic's indie action-adventurer Terraria first released on the PC in 2011 and comes to consoles packing new content. Last we heard, Terraria has sold 1.6 million copies on PC, which was revealed back when the console ports were announced late last year.

When Terraria hits PSN and XBLA this month, it will feature a host of multiplayer capabilities, including an immediate invite system, where a host can gather up to seven friends for an online co-op or competitive game. Terraria on consoles supports four-player split-screen co-op, eight-player online multiplayer, and four-on-four split-screen.

Check out the sweet split-screen action in the gallery below, and sharpen those spades. It's going to be a dirt-based bloodbath.
