Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 has been updated today.

A new patch is now available for Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 which features a host of improvements and the addition of Hardcore mode for multiplayer. In the new mode players will not be provided with any indication of who is shooting at them or from which direction the shot has been fired as the red dot indicator is eliminated. Hardcore mode provides and ultra difficult experience that will put even the most elite snipers to the test.

The patch includes:

- Hardcore mode in multiplayer added
- Decreased pistol/melee score points to 25, no head shot bonus
- Fixed black loading screen when starting MP game
- Kick player option added on to the end of the match screen
- Fixed leaderboards upload after game ends with score/kill limit
- Chat window issue fixed
- Joining a password-protected session issue fixed
- Fixed an issue when players with internet connection sharing option could not enter multiplayer mode
- Other fixes and stability improvements

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2's first injection of single-player DLC will be chambered into North American and European copies of the game this Wednesday, March 27, when "Siberian Strike" goes live on Xbox Live, PSN and Steam for 800 MS Points/$9.99 respectively, or £8.99/€9.99 for those scouting from the other side of the Atlantic.

The DLC pack drops players in a remote Siberia town called Birsovik, and tasks them with completing a mission without help from spotters, meaning that all terrain navigation and target acquisition must be done manually, with maps, which is how cavemen snipers used to do it back in Victorian England.

... Okay so, we may not know a whole lot about sniper history.

Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 is no longer getting free 'dismemberment' DLC. Removing enemy limbs with accurate sniping was originally a feature of the sequel, but developer/publisher City Interactive told us last summer it was removed to avoid the game being banned in Germany, given the country's strict censorship laws. The plan then was to introduce the content via free DLC for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

However, a City Interactive representative tells VideoGamer the Polish studio isn't releasing the DLC. The site notes no reasons were specified, leaving us wondering what's prompted the turnaround and why it's only surfaced now.

Ghost Warrior 2 survived a number of big delays (almost completely intact) to shoot onto North American retail shelves last week.

Sniping. It’s not really fair, is it? I mean, maybe there are a lot more dudes with AKs than there are men wearing some jungle, but jungleman doesn’t have to make things so one-sided, does he? That Sniper Ghost Warrior, Too – who isn’t actually a ghost, it turns out – couldn’t perhaps give them a head start, or let them wear really thick helmets or something, makes me sad. I don’t know. I’m just saying it’s not the same as wading into the enemy base with a whirling chaingun, is it?

If you want to see what I am talking about then have a look at the trailer below, where multi-coloured men are poked in the head very hard by metal fingers. Ow!(more…)

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2
sharpshoots onto Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on March 12. Developer City Interactive released a statement on Polish media market website Bankier.pl noting the release date, which the game's official website backs up.

It's been a long road for the CryEngine 3-based sequel, with would-be snipers forced to breathe deep through more than one delay. Some of those were based on previously scoped-out release dates, so maybe keep a pinch of salt handy for this one.

Games about snipers tend to involve a lot of things that aren’t sniping and in the case of Ghostlier Warrior, stabbing men in the armpit will be a significant feature if this footage is to be believed. Men are shot from afar, it’s true, but the majority of a sniper’s working day is not spent squeezing the trigger after an intake of breath so sharp it could cause a lung to collapse. In order to entertain the masses, armpit-stabbing replaces hours of lying prone in the dark, weeing in the accumulated mulch and foliage, suppressing memories of home, silently awaiting the day’s first human contact which ends in a moment of detached violence. That would be a horror game and this is a game about war.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is now set to launch on January 15, 2013, pushed back from an already delayed date of October 9 this year.

City Interactive hasn't offered a reason for the delay, but the game's official page lists the new date with a confident exclamation point. Perhaps shifting Ghost Warrior 2 from the crowded fall launch window will give potential snipers room to breathe, steady their aim and pull the trigger on buying the game.

When you're a sniper - a ghost warrior, if you will - waiting for the perfect moment is key. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 was originally going to take a shot at retail in March, but decided to wait for August instead. Now, it appears the timing still isn't right, as the game will now be released on October 9, Namco has informed Eurogamer.

Namco is distributing the game in Europe, but GameStop and Amazon page now list the North American release for October 9 as well. We've contacted publisher City Interactive for confirmation.

Join us in debate. The trailer for Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 begins by saying it is all created with the game’s engine. But having missed that message, one of our number dismissed the trailer as CGI. But where is reality? If the game really looks as good as this trailer shows, it’ll be the best looking game we’ve ever seen. But being created using CryEngine, and being in-game footage, are two very different things. If a game could use focus the way this trailer does, could track slo-mo bullets, and be so meticulously directed, then it would be in a different league. That seems unlikely. Well, you watch.

Once upon a time Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 was scheduled to come out on March 20, but as we all know a good sniper requires patience, adaptability and more development time, apparently. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is now set to launch on August 21 for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, Shacknews reports.

The original Sniper: Ghost Warrior attempted to capture the thrill of sniping; finding good locations, lining up a shot, and watching the devastation unfold in slow-motion glory. But run-and-gun sections and some other issues brought strong criticism down onto Polish developer City Interactive's sniper sim. When the team set out to design Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, they took these critiques seriously...

The original Sniper: Ghost Warrior didn't do too well on the IGN review scale, but that didn't stop gamers from buying more than one million copies of the game. With that experience under its belt, developer City Interactive is primed to release Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 in 2012. This time, producer Michael Sroczynski says the team is ready to capitalize on the lessons of the first game and put its new engine to the test...

Do you like wings? Well, what about ghosts? How about those things with additional adjectives or nouns? We hope you fall in there somewhere, and so does City Interactive, who announced release dates for both Combat Wings: The Great Battles of World War II and Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 on Wednesday.

No, we don't mean they're coming out on Wednesday. In fact, Combat Wings will grace you with its aerial, er, grace, next February - on the 7th for the United States, and the 10th for Europe. Meanwhile, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, the followup to last year's critically something-or-othered released, will be available on March 16th in Europe and the 20th in the States.

A profound lack of sleep has left me with a unique super-power: to be impressed and moved by anything at all. I was welling up just watching these five minutes of Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 footage. Those poor bullets! Fired off into people’s icky headbits without a second thought. Separated from their cartridge buddies forever. Awful.

This footage is actually a bit old, being from GamesCom, but I missed it last week, to the annoyance of readers who sent it in. Sorry, Annoyed Men! Love you! The CryEngine-powered manshooter is out in Q1 of next year, which seems to be a true of a lot of games currently in development.(more…)
