Ubisoft has done the unexpected, delivering an extremely solid movie tie-in with The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. This solid platform adventure on Nintendo 3DS proves to be great fun throughout, despite its brevity, with pleasing extras and a great two-player race element.

The malleability of the Tintin franchise means that it could have easily been translated into a solid to very good platformer. In fact, imagine if this game had taken the 2D Prince of Persia as a point of inspiration how much better this game might have been. Instead, we're stuck with the most base and unimaginative kind of licensed tie-in that saps all of the joy of of the original material in translation.

The Adventures of Tintin is merely the sum of its parts; decent platforming, good music and a sizeable amount of gameplay don't ever quite gel into a satisfying whole. There's potential for a better game in here, but it'll have to wait until the inevitable sequel.

I understand that the game is meant for a younger audience, but there are quite literally hundreds of other titles out there that provide a far more enjoyable experience. I have no ethical qualms with this game's existence, but the fact that Ubisoft charges money for it comes dangerously close to breaking a handful of agreements in the Geneva Conventions.

Jaw-dropping and entertaining. Two words IGN used to describe the Tintin movie on which this game is based, and two words that at times apply equally here. The Adventures of Tintin: The Secrets of the Unicorn has moments of heart-stopping glee, brief glimpses that capture the energy and spectacle of...

The Adventures of Tintin may not be a fantastic game, but as licensed games go it's far more than decent. The different modes and variety in gameplay do not always reach the same level of quality, but the majority of it is a lot of fun to play for kids and adults alike.

Does anyone care about The Adventures of Tintin? I don’t mean the books, the cartoon or even the film, I mean the game, which Dan’s pre-release thoughts may have actively diminished interest in. If you’re still willing to give the game a chance though, good news has intrepidly burst onto the scene in the form of a demo. As far as I can tell, it’s only available on GamersGate at the moment, but you don’t even need an account there to download it, you can just captcha your way through instead. My immense fondness for Tintin means I’ll inevitably try this at some point. Good to have the option of doing that for free.

Ubisoft has handed out some details on the upcoming game based on the Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson-produced Adventures of Tintin movie. A trailer and short segment of gameplay was shown at the company's E3 conference this afternoon, featuring both a singleplayer campaign that will take players to famous locations in Tintin's world, as well as co-op and competitive gameplay modes with sword combat, aerial fighting, and driving sequences.

The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, the same studio currently working on Rayman Origins and Beyond Good and Evil 2, and is set to come out for consoles and PC later on this holiday season.
