Angry Birds vaulted to megahit success on smartphones. If you’ve been in a plane, train or automobile with more than two people, chances are one of them had it on their phone. No law, diplomacy, or goddamn army can stop Splinter Cell: Blacklist - it's a very determined game, you know. Sam Fisher's new adventure as the leader of Fourth Echelon steamrolls its way to Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U and PC on August 20.

Angry Birds: Star Wars is headed for every console in the galaxy, with courses plotted for North America on October 29, and globally November 1. The sci-fly crossover that came to smartphones, tablets, PC, and Mac last year will be remastered for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, Wii, Vita, and 3DS with 20 new levels exclusive to the new versions, along with new two-player co-operative and two-to-four player multiplayer modes.

The news follows the announcement of Angry Birds: Star Wars 2, which will somehow bring the Star Wars prequels together with Skylanders-like toys when it launches for mobiles on September 19.

A new version of Indie Game: The Movie, the 2012 documentary chronicling the lives of indie video game developers chasing their dreams, will be released on July 24.

This special edition will include 300+ minutes of footage, including over 100 minutes of never-before-seen film that will include epilogues for some of the developers featured in the film. The Team Meat fellers, prominently featured in the film, also provide some new commentary tracks, as do directors James Swirsky and Lisanne Pajot.

The special Indie Game: The Movie will be available through Steam and the official site for $15, or for $5 if you already own the first version. If you pre-order now, a DVD boxed set is available for $59 (regularly $69), while the Blu-ray version is down to $69 from $89.

Boxed sets won't ship until August, at which point they'll revert to their full prices. Both DVD and Blu-ray special editions will be signed by the directors, include exclusive artwork from Edmund McMillen, and offer a code for the digital special edition. Indie Game: The Movie is currently available for streaming on Netflix Instant, as a rental or purchase on YouTube and, until July 22, a $2.99 purchase on Steam, thanks to the Steam Summer Sale.

Cloudberry Kingdom is a sadistic platformer with randomly generated levels, and it's not likely to be any easier on any particular console, so take your pick. It's coming to PSN on July 30, XBLA and Steam on July 31, and Wii U eShop no August 1, for $10 across the board. Later this year, Cloudberry Kingdom will hit Vita, too.

Cloudberry Kingdom has been on our radar since September, when developer Pwnee Studios showed off its hardcore gameplay. For something so cute, it can get absolutely masochistic - that's the hardest gameplay mode. The game has a unique AI system that generates new levels on each run-through, three game modes, up to four-player co-op and multiplayer, a level creator, 10 heroes and voice acting by Hercules himself, Kevin Sorbo.

Cloudberry Kingdom is up for pre-order now on PSN, discounted to $8 as part of the PlayStation Store PLAY campaign.

What time is it? Why, time for the very first Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know! trailer, of course. The isometric hack-and-slash co-op dungeon crawler from WayForward features the voice talents of John DiMaggio, Tom Kenny and Jeremy Shada, all of which are present to varyingly belligerent degrees in this first look at the game.

Kenny, the voice of the Ice King and everyone else from your childhood, describes Princess Bubblegum's Secret Dungeon as more of a "fungeon," meanwhile DiMaggio (Jake the Dog) seems mostly offended that someone is talking to him in the first place. The single most important takeaway from this, however, is that Cinnamon Bun is a playable character in all his awkward, uncomfortable glory.

Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I Don't Know! is headed to Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and 3DS sometime this fall.

Ubisoft is on the cusp of titular video game perfection, having announced the inclusion of 40 levels from Rayman Origins to this year's exuberant platforming sequel, Rayman Legends. That's right, the game will have some Legends and a few Origins. Dare they throw in a smattering of ... Revelations?

According to Ubisoft designer and Rayman rein-holder Michel Ancel, the bonus Rayman Origins levels are immediately accessible and optional to the completion of Rayman Legends. The selection of stages, including a few devious Tricky Treasure runs, has been graphically updated to suit the style of Legends.

Ancel and the creative team are also tossing in "Kung Foot," a soccer-themed minigame that supports up to four local players (five if you're on Wii U). Controlling any of the available Rayman characters, players jump around, kick, punch and block a bouncing soccer ball wildly as they attempt to get it through the opposing goal. Kung Foot is pitched as a funny, aimless party game for friends too tired for anything serious - or, in the case of Ancel's team, for developers who just finished making Rayman Origins. It was a small in-engine game made just for the office at the time, but now it's being included with Rayman Legends.

Rayman Legends is due on Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita on September 3.

A new gameplay trailer for Sonic: Lost World reveals a release date of October 22. The trailer also shows off Sonic's new powerups, which allow him to change form as he did in Sonic Colors.

In Lost World he can become a bird that zips through the sky, a hovering planetary body and a gigantic pink musical note. We sure hope that one's explained by the plot and extensive dialogue in agonizing detail.

Sonic: Lost World is the first of three proposed games in a new partnership between Nintendo and Sega. The 3DS version is currently in development at Dimps, while the Wii U game is being crafted by Sonic Team. Both will feature multiplayer modes unique to their platform.

If you've been looking for a Wii U Pro Controller, today may be the day to pull the trigger. As Best Buy's deal of the day, it's only 25 bucks, half the usual price. As Dealzon notes, the controller is sold out for shipping, but still available for in-store pickup.

The retailer also has a great deal on MLB 13: The Show, which we awarded a whopping 5 stars back in March. The PlayStation 3 version has been marked down to $20, while the Vita version is only $10. Like the Pro Controller, the Vita version is no longer available for shipping, but in-store pickup is still an option if your local Best Buy has it in stock.

The Kickstarter for Soul Saga closed at more than triple its $60,000 goal. The PSOne-style JRPG proved it had a crowdfund hook with 5,600-plus backers who raised nearly $200,000. Once developer Disastercake finishes its victory fanfare, the Seattle-based dev will get hard to work bringing the Final Fantasy and Suikoden-inspired game to PS4, Wii U, Vita, PC, Mac, and Linux, where it's due in around a year's time.

The triple-attack on funding saw plenty of stretch goals met, meaning Soul Saga will include voice acting, a job board, legendary weapons, airships and airship combat, and plenty of guild features. While the fundraiser fell just short of the $200,000 goal for the Garen's Saga content, in which antagonist Garen will be playable in a similar way to Fou-lu from Breath of Fire 4, Disastercake decided it'll be included in the game anyway - and that comes with a Garen-tee*

Of course, Japan's no different from any other country in that the internet offers a place for idiots and chaos to collide. Nico Nico is, in particular, an adept enabler. Nico Nico Douga has been called Japan's version of YouTube. Fair comparison or not, Nico Nico also has live streaming channels that sometimes are interesting, sometimes dull, sometimes sexy, and sometimes unintentionally funny. During these moments, you can see the streaming comments erupt across the screen. Nico Nico hasn't really caught on in the West. But in Japan, Nico Nico continues to be a big deal. For example, at last year's Tokyo Game Show, Sony talked at length about how Nico Nico was headed to the PS Vita (it eventually came to the West, too). Likewise, Nintendo was excited to announce Nico Nico for Wii U. In these videos, you can see some of the unintentionally funny, obviously stupid, and even dangerous Nico Nico Live moments. In Splinter Cell: Blacklist, series frontman Sam Fisher finds himself in a new position as leader of Fourth Echelon, a black ops outfit assembled by the President of the United States. Fourth Echelon was formed to hunt down The Engineers, a group of terrorists promising to attack American interests every seven days until all US troops are pulled out of foreign countries.

During a preview session where I was able to sample the first handful of Splinter Cell: Blacklist missions from the final game, I found myself fascinated more than anything with this new team. A few familiar faces but mostly new, Fourth Echelon is comprised of folks who don't necessarily trust Sam's judgment, nor do they have a problem with vocalizing their criticism.

Minicore Studios has started a Kickstarter campaign to fund the completion of its dog-based alternate-history action-platformer Laika Believes: The Sun at Night. The Austin, Texas-housed indie is seeking $100,000 to fuel the completion of the game's art assets, sound production and to facilitate the creation of Mac and Linux versions to accompany the PC version already on Greenlight, and the Xbox 360 version waiting in the wings.

Reward tiers, of which there are many, run from as little as $1 for some desktop wallpaper to $10,000 for an Executive Producer credit, in-game robot version of your own real-life dog and a buttload of other stuff, including an adorable plush version of Laika. Stretch goals, if reached, help make PlayStation 3, Vita and Wii U ports possible, in addition to expanding the game's overall amount of content.

Until now, Minicore Studios has relied on angel investors to front the bill while it worked on bringing Laika's episodic odyssey to life. "We raised money over a year and a half period and have gone through most of those funds since last May," founder and CEO John Warren told us.

Income from Minicore's most recent release, iOS puzzler Tumblewords, also hasn't done much to extend Laika's development budget. "Tumblewords income has been minimal, so that's barely factored into it," Warren said. "It was supposed to buy us some time, but in reality income from Tumblewords has bought us a few days, not a few weeks or months. Which, on a side note, is a shame because it really is a lovely mobile game!"

There will be Supermen. Yep, in the plural. Scribblenauts: Unmasked, as you might recall, is 5th Cell's newest puzzle-word game-platformer thingamajig where you conjure up a whole lot of different DC universe heroes and villains to solve puzzles. That's heroes, villains, and various new objects; "thousands" of them, according to the description, used across the "iconic locales of the DC Comics universe." Interestingly, those include a whopping fourteen different versions of Superman, as detailed in the handy infographic below. Unmasked is set to land on September 24 on Wii U, 3DS and PC. Questions? Update:

Well, fighting game tournaments are all about swift reversals. Nintendo has sent word that the Super Smash Bros. Melee stream will be allowed to proceed as organizers intended.

Original story:

Super Smash Bros. Melee
will no longer be part of EVO 2K13's streaming schedule, as per Nintendo's request. Shoryuken reports that Melee will be replaced by a mixture of Persona 4 Arena and King of Fighters XIII.

Adding an extra level of pain to the entire situation is the nearly $100,000 the Melee community raised for breast cancer research, in the hopes that Melee would be a featured game during the EVO 2K13 streams.

Nintendo recently started cracking down on broadcasters posting footage of its games online. In May, Nintendo hit "Let's Play" videos on YouTube - essentially narrated game walkthroughs - with mass revenue claims.

EVO 2K13 is this year's installment in the prominent EVO championship series of fighting game tournaments. EVO 2K13 will take place the weekend of July 12 at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

[Thanks, Stephen.]

Dr. Fetus, the nefarious antagonist of Super Meat Boy, and Machinarium's robot hero, Josef, have both been confirmed for Runner 2's upcoming DLC character pack, Good Friends. Special introductory trailers voiced by Charles Martinet have been issued for both characters.

The Good Friends DLC pack is an add-on that increases Runner 2's cast of playable characters by seven, due this Thursday on Steam. An announcement yesterday revealed Raz from Psychonauts and Quote from Cave Story as a pair of Good Friends.

Warner Bros. and 5th Cell announced that the upcoming DC Multiverse puzzler Scribblenauts Unmasked will launch on September 24 for the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, and PC platforms.

Promising to give players "ultimate access to the vast lexicon of DC lore and literature," Scribblenauts Unmasked includes no less than 14 versions of Superman, taken from various comic book timelines and universes. Having extensive knowledge of the DC Universe may come in handy during gameplay, as it's likely that introducing First Appearance Superman to the world of Scribblenauts will have a different result than summoning, say, Red Son Superman or Evil Dark Side Superman.

Developer 5th Cell previously expressed a desire to feature as many DC heroes and villains in Scribblenauts Unmasked as possible, though some minor characters may not make the cut. Scribblenauts Unmasked will include over 2,500 DC Universe characters when it launches in September.

On Thursday, the Steam version of Gaijin Games' difficult-yet-delightful Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien will add seven new characters into the mix with the Good Friends character DLC pack. Console releases of the DLC "will follow," developer Gaijin Games says.

Each character will be revealed through a special video narrated by none other than Charles Martinet - the first two are Raz from Double Fine's Psychonauts (above) and Quote, the protagonist of Cave Story, whose trailer can be seen past the break. Gaijin Games promises to reveal two more characters tomorrow and the final three on Wednesday.
