If Sony had a Playstation All-Stars racer, similar to Sonic & Sega All-Star Racing and Mario Kart, it'd probably look like this. The creators, Max and Leonardo, pretty much included everyone, as you can see in the full pic below. This would be Wacky Races level of chaotic racing.Read more...

Recent Nintendo events got us looking back at some old news clippings about the house of Mario and we found some we just have to share. Here's one of the more interesting ones from the Daily Yomiuri, from November 1992. As you'll see, we can't vouch for veracity of all of it....Read more...

Sebastian Vettel is the defending Formula 1 world champ. You could argue that makes him the best race driver in the world. But as we all know, skill alone means squat in a game of Mario Kart. Vettel took part in the German edition of the Red Bull Soapbox Race over the weekend, dressed as Mario and in a red cart that looked as close to Mario's racer as it could without klaxons sounding inside Nintendo's legal department. Sadly, his fake moustache didn't survive the trip down the hill, but both car and driver reached the finish line safely. Guess there weren't enough banana peels on the track. Next year, German crowds, try harder. Seifenkisten-Vettel: "Ich habe es lieber mit Motor" [Merkur, thanks Frank!]

Reader Toad has got hold of a ton of old VHS promos for Nintendo games, played in game stores in Japan in the early 1990s. These aren't short TV spots or trailers. They're long, detailed looks at each game, some running for over 5 minutes and including custom animation and live-action sequences. Some of the games featured include Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Mario Paint and Mario Kart. The best one is probably Kirby's Dream Course. So many old white dudes, so little acting. Ah yes, Akihabara. When you think of Tokyo's "Electric Town", you probably think of retro game shops, arcades, and a sea of anime, manga, and collectible figurines. Add go-karts to that list. Dubbed "Akiba Cart", this service allows you to rent go-karts and drive them in the nerd paradise that is Tokyo's Akihabara. Each kart comes outfitted with things like side view mirrors, a horn, and a little flag—so you don't get smushed by a dump truck. The street legal go-karts can reach speeds of 50 km/h and have special light blue license plates reserved for microcars. Anyone with a valid Japanese or international license can drive the Akiba Cart go-karts. Wearing helmets is not necessary, and apparently, some customers even enjoy cosplaying while they enjoy karting. (They better cosplay as Mario Kart characters!) With a full tank of gas, you can drive the go-kart for about 80 kilometers before running out—and don't necessarily have to stick to Akihabara, making this a new and interesting way to explore Tokyo. Akiba Cart has go-karts available for rent at 2,500 yen (US$25) an hour. If you become an Akiba Cart member, you can rent karts for slightly less at 2,000 yen ($20) an hour. #mariokart Jimmy Fallon's been about as high-profile a video game enthusiast as you can get these last few years. His late night talk show has offered up early looks at big releases like Halo 4 and the Wii U, along with offering exposure to developers and execs. But this new singalong with Disney starlet Selena Gomez is something altogether different. There's no hardware release to hype or gameplay to show. It's a just a song—which is, yeah, a little corny—that echoes an experience that a generation of people have shared in one form or another. More »
