Humble Indie Bundle 8 is already a screaming deal, and it now has four more games and their soundtracks to tickle your fancy (and vocal chords): Tiny and Big: Grandpa's Leftovers, Intrusion 2, English Country Tune and Oil Rush.

These join the "pay more than the average" tier, alongside Hotline Miami and Proteus. Whatever that price is will also get you the "pay what you want" games, Thomas Was Alone, Awesomenauts, Little Inferno, Dear Esther, and Capsized. All games and soundtracks would now cost $150 at retail, but the bundle price is up to you - though only for seven more days.

While some of the Indie Royale Bundles haven’t been the strongest, the latest collection in its almost-pay-what-you-want pile is pretty strong. Featuring one of last year’s best games, To The Moon, alongside Wadjet Eye’s most recent Blackwell game, Deception, is Oil Rush, Reprisal, and something called Avseq.

I started playing Unigine’s seabound strategy game Oil Rush a fortnight ago. Then I got distracted by a shard of light in the corner of the room, and before I knew it a fortnight had passed and I still hadn’t written up my thoughts on it. I’ve finally woken up again, and I am indeed ready to tell you what I think.

Tower defence meets Galcon would be the hard sell; intense mini-map based node-capturing strategy would be the softer one. With conventional RTS having a bit of a slumber in recent months (unless, of course, you’re deep in StarCraft II leaderboards), Oil Rush finds itself in a faintly privileged situation. Not too much sci-fi build’n'bash competition out there, so this quiet little contender potters into the ring and raises its fists. What to expect from this rank outsider?(more…)

It's a little odd to play a game as pretty as Oil Rush, yet spend a majority of the time staring at a minimap that takes up a small percentage of the screen. The gameplay revolves around attacking and defending nodes to expand and diversify your army, in the same vein as something like Galcon. Becau...

Naval strategy game Oil Rush is now available direct from developers Unigine, and on Steam and Desura. Rather than being powered by burning up the planet’s lifeblood, it runs on the studio’s own Unigine Engine, which seems capable of producing some attractive visuals. It’s a fast-paced take on strategy, focusing around the capture of platforms, nodes scattered around each map that produce either units or oil. Unit-producing nodes can be defended with various sorts of turret while oil platforms have no such protection and must be defended by the various warcrafts churned out. Observe.

There is no niche the PC will not fill. And while clearly something is going to have to go a long way to beat Street Cleaning Simulator (which still sounds like a Your Sinclair running joke to me), it’s good to see the field of oil drilling is not left out with Oil Rush. Except, wait a second. This looks… it looks rather good. And I’m fairly sure drilling stations aren’t usually this well armed.

I was being all, like, “Ha ha, an oil drilling game,” and now I’m like, “Oh.”
