A portion of a GamesTM review...

Beautiful, feature-packed and brimming with creative remedies for the ails of a stagnating genre, that NOA should overlook such a shining example of what a JRPG can be paints a very different company to the Nintendo that went out at E3 with a call to arms for the hardcore.

#operationrainfall Not that this will be too big a surprise for suffering American Wii owners, but in Nintendo's latest release schedule (out today), there's still no mention of Xenoblade Chronicles being due for North America. It's still scheduled for release in Europe, however, on August 19. More »

#radiofriendly Hey, Nintendo. If you won't take heed of polite letters and emails from fans asking for Japanese games to be localised, maybe listen to this guy instead. More »

Nintendo of Europe is taking full advantage of the goodwill it's earning with the localization of Xenoblade Chronicles. Nintendo has bumped up the European release date for Monolith Soft's Wii RPG from September 2 to August 19. It will still be available in either a standard edition or a special edition with a red Classic Controller Pro. In addition, the pre-order-exclusive special edition bundle will come with three posters.

Nintendo of America's last word to date on the matter was that there were "no plans" for Xenoblade or the two other games on which the "Operation Rainfall" campaign is focused.

#watchthis Since there won't be an official release of Xenoblade Chronicles in the US, most Americans who end up playing the game will probably be playing it like this: on the Dolphin emulator for the PC. In HD. More »

Over the past week, I have seen a fairly remarkable thing happen. A small movement on a very big site (this one) turned into a bit of a global phenomenon. Coming off the heels of an E3 showing that virtually ignored the Wii, and factoring in a 2011 release schedule that has been almost absent of any...

Several days after fans took to Twitter, Facebook, Amazon.com and YouTube to campaign for the release of Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower, Nintendo has finally issued an official comment. Perhaps to no one's surprise, Nintendo of America still has no plans to bring any of the games to North America...

It's a shame Xenoblade Chronicles might not make it to North America. With all the attention being focused on the game lately, I imported it, despite not knowing a bit of Japanese. I played through the opening sequence to bring you some early impressions, and already one thing has become very apparent - this game has a lot of potential...

While American fans are doing their best to fume productively about the localization prospects for Xenoblade Chronicles, Nintendo continues working on the European localization. And Nintendo is really hammering home the fact that it's a European localization. A video clip from a recently posted Iwata Asks interview reveals a surprising amount of Britishness in the voice acting. See the clip in question after the break, and find lots more in the interview itself.

An announcement on Nintendo of Germany's site reveals that not only is Xenoblade being released in Europe on September 2, it's being released in a limited edition with a red Classic Controller Pro. That's like twisting the Xenoblade in the backs of already irritated Americans.

Nintendo's Satoru Iwata must have secretly wanted to be an investigative reporter instead of a gaming industry businessman, because the company president has once again just sat down with developers and run a new in-depth interview. This time his targets were Yuichiro Takeda and Tetsuya Takahashi the scenario writer and game director for Xenoblade and his questions uncovered some interesting insights into their thoughts about JRPG protagonists...

Normally, online petition efforts seem doomed from the start. But a grassroots campaign, born on the IGN forums, and aimed at getting Nintendo to localize Xenoblade, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower outstrips the normal, futile campaign through cleverness and pure vigor.

Fans have taken to spamming Nintendo's Facebook and Twitter pages and email with requests for those three games. "Operation Rainfall" also involves coordinated physical mailings of letters to NOA headquarters, aimed at one game at a time.

Even more clever -- and likely effective -- is a campaign to pre-order "Monado: Beginning of the World" from Amazon. Back in 2009, before it was even called Xenoblade, Nintendo announced this game at E3. Amazon accordingly added a pre-order listing, which has been sitting dormant for two years. Now, that orphaned pre-order listing is Amazon's top seller in video games. Unlike most petitions, this can be translated directly into purchase intent -- i.e. money on the table -- and is more likely than anything to attract Nintendo's attention.

It's at least attracted the attention of Nintendo's social media intern: the company tweeted, "Hey fans, we appreciate your enthusiasm. Look for more updates to come soon!"

Nintendo fans in North America have had enough. With a 2011 release schedule that could certainly be described as anemic, Wii owners are starting a campaign to push Nintendo of America to bring three games - Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story and Pandora's Tower - to the United States...
