For weeks we've known the Nintendo 3DS would support paid downloadable content through the recently-announced Nintendo Network. Today Square Enix revealed its DLC plans for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, the first game to support that type of material on the 3DS...
- invite up to 3 players to tackle the Chaos Temple
- this mode lets you earn experience points and find rare items
- Song of Darkness plays while you play
- fight bosses like Omega, Shinryu, and Ultima Weapon
- Anima appears as a regular enemy
- features a song where Minwu strolls to Sunleth Waterscape
- field scenes have players tap red notes and trace green lines with the stylus
- you can stray from the green line for a bit, but there are certain notes you have to hit to continue your combo
- Battle scenes have summons as special events
- summon a Chocobo if you tap all of the notes in the event zone
- each time you make a mistake your character trips and changes to another party member

"Found something on the right," said this Twitter user from Japan, and indeed he has: A logo for the "Nintendo Network," on the box art for Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, due to release on February 12. More »

- unlock all three sub-characters before using them
- Aerith from Final Fantasy VII is unlockable
- obtain her by collecting crystal fragments
- other sub-characters: Princess Sarah from Final Fantasy, Cid from Final Fantasy III, Faris from Final Fantasy V, Prishe from Final Fantasy XI, and Snow from Final Fantasy XIII
- all of the characters can level up
- develop four stats: strength, magic power, speed, and luck
- luck improves your chances of finding items on the ground
- unlock songs to play in the game’s museum and movies to watch
- over 50 songs
- offers mode where you can continuously listen to music
It's also sounding like the game is going to feature downloadable content in the way of new songs. This isn't officially confirmed by Square-Enix just yet, but hands-on impressions seem to hint at this inclusion.
