What happens when you have a big ol' press event in Italy? Apparently you get Resident Evil 6 trailers with Italian subtitles, as the above leaked trailer is evidence of. More importantly, said trailer pushes up Resident Evil 6's release date from November 20 to October 2.

In case you're in a situation that prevents streaming video, you should also know that the third protagonist (aka "the man who's told to save the world") is Albert Wesker's son. The trailer is actually rife with high-level RE drama, ending on a standoff between the perfectly coiffed Leon S. Kennedy and the significantly gruffer Chris Redfield. And no, there aren't any zombie presidents in this one. Not a single one.

Capcom's Senior VP of planning and business development, Christian Svensson, responded frankly to a few of the company's recent issues at GDC last week, and perhaps most interesting was his complete surrender on the misspelled Resident Evil: Revelations box art.

"It's embarrassing. I can't really sugarcoat it," he admitted to Game Informer, saying that multiple departments were responsible for checking it, and that procedures had since been updated to make sure it doesn't happen again. "There are only about 90,000 units that have the misprint. If you've got it and it's shrink-wrapped, that's a new special edition, that's our new strategy," Svensson joked.

Svensson declined to comment on the abrupt cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3, and offered a "never say never" on a US release of Ace Attorney Investigations 2. Asura's Wrath sales, according to Svensson, "went about almost exactly how we thought it would."

And Svensson also bends the knee a little bit concerning the announcement of Resident Evil 6 and its proximity to other Resident Evil titles, but is unapologetic about making that title the biggest in the series yet. "The plan is the biggest Resident Evil game ever. We're not messing around," said Svensson. The plan is working, too, because "pre-orders for Resident Evil 6 are off to a fantastic start. The best start a Resident Evil game has ever had."

Resident Evil 6 represents a milestone for Capcom's long-running series. For the first time, the franchise's two biggest stars - Leon Kennedy and Chris Redfield - will (eventually) join forces in the same game to fight the forces of evil. But Resident Evil 6 doesn't stop there. The game features another playable character, an unnamed lead that finds himself protecting Sherry Birkin, who players last saw in the second Resident Evil game...

Resident Evil 6's Chris Redfield-led campaign will be heading to the "fictitious coastal town" of Lanshiang, located right next to China's own Twilight Zone. Furthermore, it'll be set in 2013, meaning that the game will offer a bleak vision of our imminent future.

Capcom offered up more information beyond the setting and date clarifications this morning, such as word that the game's "mysterious third protagonist" is taking care of important mercenary business in Eastern Europe before he's tasked with saving the world in RE6. And perhaps most importantly, the Japanese publisher noted that this fall's big RE game will utilize an "evolved control system," which grants players the ability to "shoot whilst moving; slide; roll in any direction, and to take cover along with the addition of an enhanced melee attack." Dragon's Dogma is going to be the Zone of the Enders of 2012. We don't mean it's going to have awesome robots -- rather, a significant portion of its audience will be buying it only for the included demo.

Capcom announced today that Dragon's Dogma will be out in North America on May 22, and in Europe on May 25. Each copy will include a code for access to the Resident Evil 6 demo -- if you buy it on Xbox, you'll be able to get the demo 60 days before anyone else, on July 3. The PSN version of the demo will go up on September 4 in North America and September 5 in Europe. It's not quite an Xbox exclusive, but it might as well be given that lead time!

Where's Carl been? We haven't seen that dude in two months. We thought he was just playing Skyrim, but now it seems that he's been roped into working on Resident Evil 6, much like the rest of the world's population.

"This is by far the largest scale production Capcom has ever embarked on," executive producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi reveals in a developer introduction to the announcement trailer, seen above. "Between the 150 staff members in Japan and everyone around the world, we have more than 600 people involved."

Kobayashi goes on to call Resident Evil 6 "the most ambitious" in the series, and employing 600 is certainly a statement to that effect. To put that number into perspective, recent sequels Assassin's Creed 2 and GTA IV were completed thanks to the efforts of 450 and an estimated 1000, respectively.

Kobayashi's foreword in the video above is joined by introductions from director Eiichiro Sasaki and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, the latter of whom defines Resident Evil 6's genre as "dramatic horror." With a straight face.

Helena Harper's harmonious name isn't all she's got going for her -- she's also Leon Kennedy's buddy-cop partner in this November's cross-continental zombie-murder sim, Resident Evil 6. Capcom released the image you see of Ms. Harper above in the past few days, alongside a slew of new screens.

The Xbox Marketplace listing for Resident Evil 6 appears to contain some exceedingly juicy and entirely unannounced secrets about Capcom's upcoming thriller. If the listing is to be believed, Leon and Chris' latest adventure will include 2-player couch co-op, 6-player online co-op and 8-player "online multiplayer," which we're assuming will be some sort of group Mercenaries exercise.

What's even more astounding is all of this information is just out there, floating around the Internet. We didn't have to collect masks or unlock a blood-filled casket or find key cards or anything. For now, we're cautiously taking everything we read with a grain of salt, even if it is the Xbox Marketplace. We've also reached out to Capcom for confirmation of these features.

The announce of Resident Evil 6 stole the spotlight yesterday afternoon during Capcom's big 15th anniversary event in Japan, and the company delivered even more info on the game than the surprisingly lengthy trailer could offer. It turns out that Leon will be joined by a brand new, highly alliterative security worker named Helena Harper, while Chris Redfield's partner remains unknown.

In non-human characters, the snarling beast seen in the trailer repeatedly (and above) is named "Javo," and is said to have an "even greater impact than the zombies." He gives us a Nemesis vibe, which is to say, "He looks and sounds terrifying," even though his name makes him sound like a barista. The third main protagonist also hasn't been named, and has only been referred to thus far as "the man who's told to save the world." From what we gleaned in the trailer, he'll only do so for a price.

According to Andriasang's report of the Japanese event where the title was announced, Capcom also went into detail on Resident Evil Chronicles HD, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Resident Evil Revelations, and spoke about upcoming merchandise based on the series. Also, there are, like, a lot of Resident Evil games in production right now, in case that wasn't clear.
