F1 2012 PC Patch #11 News

Today sees patch #11 available on Steam for PC versions of F1 2012. This is very likely to be the last patch for PC.

This update addresses the following issues:
• Made an improvement to the AI under braking that will stop them from crashing in to the back of the player so frequently.
• Deactivated the run_on_cpu option which was added with the last patch. The feedback given did not indicate that this improved the framerate for anybody.Fixed two issues when using the Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP Wheel.
o The default Logitech control profile is always selected after player attempts to customise the controls with this wheel.
o Placeholder graphic shown for View Replay button icon when using a Logitech Wingman Formula Force GP Wheel as no button/key is assigned to View Replay.

Work Arounds:
• If youre getting a stuttering during gameplay please try turning your Anti Aliasing setting down.
• If you have the incorrect race distance in season two issue please try.
1. From the Main Menu select Career -> Career -> Settings -> Race Settings.
2. Back out (you dont need to change anything) and scroll back to the Main Hub.
3. You can now continue your play through as normal.

The fixes listed above and those specific to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game are also being tested and verified on those platforms. As these versions require additional submission and authorisation from both Microsoft and Sony the release date for these will follow a little later than the PC version.

We are working on other issues you have reported via the forums, Facebook and Twitter and are working to fix them as quickly as possible. F1 2012 PC Patch #10 News

Today sees patch #10 available on Steam for PC versions of F1 2012.

This update addresses the following issues:

• Made some more minor improvements to the online. Were keen to get feedback on these changes via our forums.
• Fixed an issue which would show a session to be In The Lobby when players were actually racing.
• Fixed an issue where the Engineer would always be one place out when talking about your position relative to your objective.
• Fixed some minor text issues with emails and press clipplings.
• If you have seen lower GPU usage and framerate drop on the more recent patches you can try adding the line to hardware_settings_config.xml in Documents\My Games\FormulaOne2012\hardwaresettings. If this does cause unwanted side effects, please undo the change by deleting the line from the config.

Today sees patch #4 available on Steam for PC versions of F1 2012.
This update addresses a number of issues, including:

• Understeer: Adjusted track information to provide a more uniform level of grip across the entire surface

• Fixed an issue where some users (especially those on laptops) were unable to change their resolution.

• Fixed a crash in Co-op when trying to resume a session at the start of a Qualifying session that neither player would take part in.

• Fixed issues with the weather system in Instant Replays / Race Replays which could instantly change the track wetness level.

• Removed engine damage from the list of damaged parts that can force a pit stop to take priority over a drive through penalty.

• Changed the Prime tyre compound to Hard for Suzuka to match the race this weekend. This change will not affect Time Attack which will continue to use the Medium compound tyre.

• Added a white cross to the DRS OSD to indicate to that it is unavailable because of a fault.

• Fixed a number of minor graphical issues.

• Fixed a couple of minor issues with timers not resetting correctly.

Other changes of note:

• Added a Skip Session option so players can leave any session without having to complete it.

• Tweaked force feedback for all devices.

• Improved the lighting on Singapore.

Known issue:
Saves not synchronising with the Steam cloud. If you are experiencing issues with saves uploaded to Steams cloud, we recommend using saved games stored on your local drive/PC.

We tasked Craig Lager with earn pole position on the F1 2012 reviews circuit. After a few laps he’s identified the worse bumps in the road, and is keen to tell you wot he thinks.

Codemasters have straddled the line of “absolutely not a sim but by no means an arcade game either” pretty well over the last couple of years with the F1 license. They’ve never got it perfect though, and the problem of how best to balance approachability while still providing a challenge for dedicated race fans is a difficult one. They want people to be able to get into F1 quickly and easily. For fans of the sport to become fans of the game they need to get used to coaxing the super machines around a track, yet people already versed in racing cars need proper complexity and challenge to keep them interested. The end goal, I think, is to be able to turn the former set of people into the latter, all in one game. Tricky.(more…)

#review This past week, I haven't felt as helpless or as vexed behind the wheel since I was 15 years old and trying to divine the magical balance between clutch and gas pedal that actually sent my mother's BMW 325e forward along our farm's gravel road. Each time the vehicle shuddered and stalled out, I was left to contemplate my own futility, understanding there is no way a driving machine like this would be made, marketed and sold if it truly was inoperable. I had to be the problem. More »

F1 2012 is out soon and a brief spin around the included track, Monza, confirmed what I had predicted. These are cars that look like stasis chambers with wheels and they mostly try to go as fast as they can. Sometimes it’s necessary to go slightly less fast but the cars hate that and would rather explode off the track. You are not a car though, you are a man in a car and you do not want to explode off the track if it can be avoided. I have no idea if Formula One cars are supposed to handle like they do in the game, or whether they were considerably better or worse in last year’s offering, but you could try the demo for yourself and see how it feels, or watch the trailer below instead.

Hello, PlayStation fans. We at Codemasters are happy to announce that the F1 2012 demo will be available later today on PSN!

The demo contains a taste of two awesome new F1 2012 features. First, we have the Young Driver Test, a real life event that can determine your F1 career. We also have Season Challenge mode’s first race at Monza — let us know your fastest lap on that one. If you race like Perez did last weekend we’ll be impressed!

One small note: the game’s toughest A.I. difficulty does not feature in the demo. The Legend A.I. option can be accessed in the Career and Quick Race modes, both available in the main game. Let us know how difficult you find Season Challenge on hard.

Of course, the demo is just a taste of what’s to come – F1 2012 offers a host of improvements over F1 2011, including fully localized weather, lap tutorials, season challenge, and the mighty Champions Mode. This mode sees you battling it out against the six world champions – Kimi Räikkönen, Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel and Michael Schumacher. Each challenge faces you off against one of the champions in a mid-race situation, (finishing a wet race with dry tyres anyone?). Beat them all and become the ultimate F1 driver!

With the inaugural 2012 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix taking place in November, and F1 2012 launching September 18th, there’ll be plenty of time to familiarize yourself with this new circuit. So download the demo on PSN, and let us know what you think in the comments below. If you fancy winning some F1 2012 goodies, post your Monza lap times (with proof) and we’ll send out a prize for the quickest time!

When companies produce games on a regularly basis – such as a yearly racing franchise – the changes tend to be incremental, rather than revolutionary. What matters, then, are how your new version improves on the last, even if the really big issue is the up to date teams, cars, and so on. That’s precisely what Codemasters attempt to explain in the F1 2012 video below. They’re really focusing on realism for this new game, and by gum it looks good. The weather is going to be so detailed that you’ll have wet and dry conditions on the same track.(more…)
