PSA: Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 'Revelations' DLC now available

It's time to sharpen your fangs and fasten your finest cape, as Konami has released the Revelations DLC for Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.

Revelations follows Alucard immediately prior to the events of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, as he prepares for the return of his father, Dracula. Along with waifish good looks, Alucard comes equipped with his own unique slate of vampiric powers, including time control, and the ability to transform into a wolf or a swarm of bats. As an undying creature of the night, Alucard is fueled by the blood of his victims, forcing players to periodically drain vital fluids from his foes instead of simply annihilating anything dumb enough to stand against a magical, immortal killing machine.

Revelations is now available for download on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, where it bears an $8 price tag. [Image: Konami]

Investors unfriend Facebook stock, Candy Crush dev IPO not so sweet

Facebook's current status after the $2 billion acquisition of virtual reality outfit Oculus yesterday? It's complicated. The social media company's stock didn't rally on the news today, dropping nearly seven percent to $60.38/share (-4.51). Reaction within the games industry has been strong to the purchase. Markus "Notch" Persson swiftly cancelled a planned Minecraft port for Oculus noting "Facebook creeps [him] out."

Candy Crush Saga developer King also had its initial price offering on the New York Stock Exchange today and swiped away 15.5 percent of its value, down $3.50 to $19. Bloomberg points out the drop is one of the largest in recent memory for a new stock. No word yet if King is trying to trademark failure.

Tomorrow is another day.

Volleyball - review

This is part of a NintendoLife review for Volleyball...

It’s a shame that there aren’t yet more sports simulators on the Wii U Virtual Console, and the ones that are available have been less than admirable. With its unattractive aesthetic, boring gameplay and frustrating mechanics, it’s very apparent that Volleyball has not aged well at all, if it was ever any good to begin with. If you’re looking to get your net-based sports fix, you might want to set your serve towards the slightly less terrible Tennis, but this one should be left out of bounds.

Hugo Smits working a new Nintendo 3DS game creation tool, beta version coming this summer

So today I want to announce the project indi3DS transformed into; Gomba!

Gomba is a rapid prototype game creation tool for Nintendo 3DS. It offers a game engine, level editor, simulator and C-like scripting language and debugger. It's super easy in use. Non-programmers can probably create a simple game in just a hour. While advanced programmers can go nuts with the C-like script.

Right now I'm building it for Windows. I have plans to transform it into a online tool, probably made in Flash, so that you will only need a browser to run it.

Here is a screenshot showing a overview of the Gomba toolset (fun fact; that's actually I prototype I'm working on together with pixel artists Danny Flexner):

Game engine
I've chosen for a tile-based logic engine, which means that if the player moves forward for example, he will move one tile forward (not one pixel).

I know this is not ideal for all game types. Actually, it works mostly for puzzle games and adventure games. This allows, however, for really easy and fast prototyping and this is something I really wanted.

The engine has a lot of functionality (like collision detection) build in. You also have standard movement controls.

Scripting
Gomba features it's very own C-like scripting language. With this script you can add events to the engine. Combined with the Game Engine already build in features, scripting is really easy and fast.

Debugger
Helps you debug your script. All errors are processed into a error report list with all the details (type of error, hint to solve and line number). When you double click on a error, it will highlight the specific line in the script editor for easy spotting.

Simulator
Will let you run the game on your PC. You can quickly check if your scripts and levels are working correctly before putting it on the Nintendo 3DS.

The future
I hope to convert the project to Adobe Flash soon, and release a beta somewhere early in the summer.

Hey hey, you lovely people from GoNintendo! I am pretty sure that we will have a slow night once again, but I want to use this chance to say thank you. Usually I don't accept gifts from people, but this person was quite determined to get my address.

The person in question is sdsichero, who comments quite often on this very website. He has gracefully sent me the three Photos Together AR pre-paid cards for the Pikmin series. These were absent from my collection as a Japanese friend was not able to track them down. Somehow sdsichero succeeded and made me very very happy in progress. With the package, he included a little note to say thanks and that made my heart melt.

Again, I am not going to make a regular thing of these posts. I do feel strongly about this one though and it is what makes this community special. Thank you, to all of you, for sticking me as usual and cheers to sdsichero for the wonderful surprise!

Titanfall cheaters' pool live on PC now, here's how it works
joystiq.com posted by Joystiq Mar 26 2014 23:00 GMT in Titanfall

Titanfall's anti-cheating system, FairFight, is now active on PC, and it places all cheaters in the same pool to play with each other - and only each other.

As Respawn puts it, "You can play with other banned players in something that will resemble the Wimbledon of aimbot contests. Hopefully the aimbot cheat you paid for really is the best, or these all-cheater matches could be frustrating for you. Good luck."

If you're not banned and invite a banned friend into your party, you'll all end up playing in the all-cheater pool. Respawn promises that playing with cheaters won't raise your risk of getting banned. Only cheating can do that.

If you think you've been unfairly banned, Respawn says to hit up anticheat@respawn.com.
Oculus founder: Rift is open, Sony's Project Morpheus is not

Oculus VR co-founder Palmer Luckey highlighted the differences between his company's Oculus Rift headset technology and Sony's recently announced Project Morpheus in an interview with GamesBeat, predicting that the majority of Rift software would never see release on Sony's closed platform.

"Most developers that are currently making things for the Rift don't really have that same option to make something for Project Morpheus," Luckey told GamesBeat. "We're an open platform that lets anyone develop anything. Sony is not [open]. There are hundreds of experiences already available for the Rift, and I would bet the vast majority of those would not make it onto a PlayStation 4."

During the interview, conducted before Facebook revealed its $2 billion purchase of Oculus VR yesterday, Luckey also stated that Project Morpheus is a net positive for the burgeoning industry. "I think it's a good thing for virtual reality when more people come into the market," he said. "Especially a big player. It shows that VR really is something that is gonna have traction."

Luckey additionally believes that the VR headset market will be large enough to support both Oculus and Sony. "This market is not even close to saturation, and the Sony thing is just for their console," he said. "Our thing is not on their console, so we don't even cross paths."

The console versions of Mojang's Minecraft will be updated this week with new items, features, and fixes, adding a significant chunk of content to player-curated sandbox worlds.

Minecraft title update 14 introduces emerald currency and villager trading, along with anvils that can be used to repair equipment. The patch also adds new edibles like potatoes and carrots, and clever players can now make the "carrot-on-a-stick" item to control pigs while riding them.

Title update 14 is available now for the Xbox Live Arcade version of Minecraft. A PlayStation 3 patch is due tomorrow.
