Original bandwagon jump. It's not even a poll.
Anyway, my intention is to make us topic where, instead of just randomly voting for stuff under a certain series, we can discuss about how good the specific characters are.
Today's character is Mario.
Below is the schedule. I underlined the days where I'll be extra-strict about reporting flaming and/or bashing. The bolded one, noticeably, will be the one we're at.
1st June - Mario 2nd June - Donkey Kong 3rd June - Link 4th June - Samus Aran 5th June - Kirby 6th June - Fox McCloud 7th June - Pikachu 8th June - Marth 9th June - Mr. Game & Watch 10th June - Luigi 11th June - Diddy Kong 12th June - Zelda and Sheik 13th June - Pit 14th June - Meta Knight 15th June - Falco Lombardi 16th June - Squirtle, Ivysaur, Charizard and Pokιmon Trainer overall 17th June - Ike 18th June - Solid Snake 19th June - Peach 20th June - Yoshi 21st June - Ganondorf 22nd June - Ice Climbers 23rd June - King Dedede 24th June - Wolf O'Donnel 25th June - Lucario 26th June - Ness 27th June - Sonic 28th June - Bowser 29th June - Wario 30th June - Toon Link 1st July - R.O.B. 2nd July - Captain Olimar and Pikmin 3rd July - Captain Falcon 4th July - Jigglypuff 5th July - Lucas
If I don't appear in any of these days, someone else can make the topic, so as long as they do it right, and if that's the case, be strict about reporting (Or striking if it's a mod) flaming/bashing. Also, I may have to temporarily leave Digibutter someday this month; when I do, I'll be giving someone else the charge of keeping the schedule.
Any corrections, just go ahead and tell me.
So, now, we talk about Mario. What do you think about his moves? Do you think that he'd be worth his spot still if he had half the popularity he has? Do you particularly like his design, or SSE appearance?
I'll be opining after some of you do so. _________________ My siggy is original. |

Off topic:Underline R.O.B., plx.
On topic:Mario was pulled off well in SSE, in my opinion. The personality wa alittle off, in that he seemed like he was still going to kick Kirby's ass if he ends up losing the first match when normally, he'd get up and go right for the handshake.(To those who say he doesn't have much of one, you aren't looking deep enough.) |

I like characters with strong moves like C. Falcon and Ganondorf. |

Mario, game-wise, manages to pull off his role as a beginner character very well, but with the addition of FLUDD, he's become a little more advanced. That's a good thing of course, as Mario is a surprisingly overlooked character. His role in the SSE was quite good too. (He should have used the Sky Pop in the Great Invasion though!)

On topic:
Well, I think that now that Mario has the tornado as the D-Air, he's gone well in the process of making a difference from Luigi. But the new B-Down isn't the best IMO. I mean, sure, you can push people offstage, but it's situational and not all-that-helpful. Sure, you can use it to help recovery, but it's an advanced technique that is too tough to use. Maybe there should be a B-Down from Galaxy?
And yes, I agree with what has been said about his appearance on SSE. Mario was slightly off, but kept his personality well, only I think he'd need to act heroic a bit more. _________________ My siggy is original. |

Mario's alright. I think he got nerfed a little, though, with the whole FLUDD thing. The Mario Tornado used to be one of my favorite moves in SSBM and it was a little troublesome to learn that they took it out on Brawl. I still end up using him now and then for fun. |

IMO, the Mario Tornado is very effective as a D-Air.
Also, I forgot to mention in the last post: I guess that he's worth his spot in Brawl, and would be even with half or 1/4 his popularity, because he has solid, recognizable moves you always know the effectiveness of. _________________ My siggy is original. |

I don't really like Mario's look in this game. He looks like he's extremely pissed off at someone all the time - not the cheerful Mario we know and love.
I don't know about his SSE role. He never really did anything aside from fight Primids here and there. XD
Gameplay-wise, I feel that Mario was kind of screwed over by the physics change...not to the extent of some other characters (*coughCaptainFalconcough*), but still a decent amount. His FAir is too slow to meteor smash someone with, and it was a great way to kill enemies in Melee. On the other hand, the rest of his aerials were drastically improved. BAir is a fantastic killing move, and it's actually possible to hit someone with the Mario Tornado now. Before, it was too slow and predictable.
I can't say I'm a big fan of the addition of F.L.U.D.D., though. It's only really helpful against enemies with bad horizontal recovery, and even then it's only usable when the enemy is above the stage. |

This too. His down taunt just doesn't look natural when he's pissed. |

Thye should have changed his B-Down to Spin Attack from Mario Gaaxy, and given him a new nair.
SSE-wise: I like it. I'm surprised Sakurai wasn't all "MahrIo stRtD iT alL, sOw We mAk SsE BoUt hiM! @_e"

Mario is fun to play as, and his FS is an inferno of terror! I like when in Classic mode the matchup is Mario vs. Luigi! |

Eh I can complain bout FLUDD. its rarely useful. but I do have to admit, It can provide a satisfying kill. preventing Quickdraw and Luigi-bomber Stlye recovers.
His smash attacks are Angle-able ( notably the forward smash). Mario is simply well rounded, good for beginners.
His Smashes are Strong, his normal attacks are decent. his specials are Weak(Ignoring the reflect cape). His final smash is actually his worst feature IMO The Mario Finale though probably one of the coolest looking final smashes Rarely KO'S , Underwhelming. at least its flashy.
But an important Note, Mario has close to no exploitable weaknesses. good for adaptive players as well, Its important if you were going to "main" Mario to master his Reflect Cape, not only for its Reflective properties but for its recovery properties.
Overall The Plumber in Overalls still packs a punch. |
