The Thousand-Year Door.
It was my first self-bought game. It had wit, charm, sparkle, humor, quirks, an awesome battle system, a gripping story - I hated having to hit Peach - and, well, everything.
It made me love videogames.
SPM... kinda recycled TTYD, only with moar side-scrolling and less overall adventure.
PM was nice in itself, but my emulator first refused to go past the first Balcony scene.
I just wish they came up with something new that isn't "Get eight or nine color-coordinated MacGuffins and safe the princess." I mean, SPM's story and characters were good, but the Pure Hearts didn't even do anything special. I feel some of the new hardware's potential has been lost.
And whilst all the games are good, the plot looses its impact. |

I feel compelled to refer you to this topic that I made a while back.
As for me...
Well, I've never played the first, so I can't make a firm statement on it. So probably TTYD. |

The bosses were much more creative, sidequests weren't randomly put into a booth, and powering up partners was much more valuable. The stars weren't objects, and it had a tad more drama. |

Totally! I mean, seriously now! 1. Giant Goomba King with Red and Blue Goombas 2. 4 Ninjakoopas Operating a Fake Bowser 3. Pharoah-Wannabe with Chain Chomp Pet 4. Giant Invincible Fatso with Talking Innards 5. General Operating a Toy Tank and Commanding a Shy Guy Army 6. Volcanic Pirahna Trio You Must Defeat Twice 7. Dirty Cloud Made of Millions of Smaller Ones 8. Transparent Palace Guardian with Icicle Assistants 9. King Bowser Himself, With Lotta Powers
How is that NOT creative?
So, yeah, I'm with PM. It had awesome badges, a cool action command, and such. SPM's almost neck-and-neck with PM, mainly because I love Catch Card collecting.
And someone please tell me how those bosses are not better than: -A Giant, FEMALE Dragon -Three Witches Made of Darkness -A Captain Driving a Grapple-Machine Robot (plus a Second Version) -A Fatso with Power Stolen from a Champion -A Sly Duplighost -A Skeletal Pirate Captian with Haunted Weapons -A Miasma of Large Blobs -An X-Naut Lord -King Bowser, Assisted by his Loyal Magikoopa -A Demented Tyrant of Shadow, in Three Forms
...on second thought, I see it now... |

Hmm.. I'm gonna go with TTYD. PM is a close second, though. |

I'll say PM:TTYD. It was my first PM game, and it had Cortez and the Smorg. No one is more awesome than those two.
Except maybe the Underchomp. |

SPM, but if it was like TTYD just with action-platforming it would've been perfect! |

Paper Mario.
First game i ever played on the 64 (and one of my first video games) and it has a long history at my age of 7 or 8 (or 9?).
And the party members are kickass! Watt especially.
And I loved the story about how Bowser prevents Mario from getting the final trading cards of his collection so he tries to beat Bowser and fails and finds out that the cards need to be saved not just because of Mario's card collection, but because he needs to save the Star Spirits from digital broadcasting in February 2009! Wait, what?
But yeah, PM. |

...I gotta say PM on this one... ...Each boss was just so wildly unique... ...no part of the game was a drag, or slowed the beat whatsoever... ...and it had the best prologue ever... ~White Shy Guy
