Rabbids invade Simon and Schuster with book deal
Because games, toys, TV and an upcoming movie aren’t enough, the Rabbids are about to add yet another chapter to their madcap tale of global takeover when they conquer the almighty printed page later this year. Ubisoft is teaming up with Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, which will release a full line of hardcover, paperback and e-books in the US and Canada starting summer 2014. The books will be based on both the game franchise and the smash-hit TV show Rabbids Invasion.
“Simon & Schuster is thrilled to add the Rabbids to our publishing portfolio,” says Valerie Garfield, Vice President, Publisher of Novelty and Licensed Publishing at Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing. “We feel that their hilarious antics will truly appeal to the 6-10 audience – and beyond – who appreciates this silly humor. They are a fresh and decidedly unique voice in licensed publishing.”
RabbidsUnder the imprint Simon Spotlight, the publisher will produce everything from joke and novelty books to beginning readers and full chapter books. These books will bring the popular characters to yet another medium, having already taken over videogames (14 million sold worldwide), licensed products, TV, and even viral videos (over 71 million views on YouTube videos starring the Rabbids).
“Working with a top children’s book publisher like Simon & Schuster Publishing expands the Rabbids brand even further,” says Tony Key, Ubisoft’s senior vice president of sales and marketing. “We’re confident the Rabbids will continue to delight fans with each new brand extension, and the success we’ve had with the videogames and TV show will be replicated with the books.”
