The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Message Board older than one year ago

If you've been following our Skyward Sword coverage, you no doubt know about the mysterious Fi. She's going to accompany you on your trip and offer up various chatter to help you along. Now we have a bit more detail on two of the options Fi provides, analysis and rumors. Both are text options you can select to hear from Fi.

"Analysis"

- Fi will tell you the suitability of the items you have for the area you're in
- this will be measured as a percentage
- she will also tell you if the items in your pouch are balanced

"Rumors"

- Fi will give out 'rumors' that may help Link on h is quest
- one rumor is that "medals" will give you beneficial effects as long as you're carrying them
- one rumor in particular leads to a potion medal that extends the duration of potion effects

The intro to The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, found on the game's Japanese website, builds the world of the game with a slow spread of ink. Though the specific art style is different, the whole thing reminds us of the intro to Wind Waker, which is a good sign!

For some strange reason, perhaps due to Wii's struggles with hardcore image and software, there seems to be more doubt surrounding The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword than just about any other game in the franchise's history. Not since almost 10 years ago, when Nintendo unveiled a new visual styling...

Put down your recently sharpened number two pencil and that crisp piece of parchment, there's no need for strongly worded letters. Unlike The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Link's final adventure on Nintendo Wii will have an entirely orchestrated soundtrack. Nintendo of America confirmed as much to me this morning during a brief play session with the upcoming sky-bound Hyrulian romp, Skyward Sword.

It's not as though the news is entirely unexpected, however -- Nintendo production head Shigeru Miyamoto hinted at the possibility earlier this year during E3, when he told attendees of his developer roundtable, "I don't think we could do what we did with Mario Galaxy 2 and not try to match that with Zelda." And hey, considering that Nintendo brought out a full orchestra just for its E3 presser, we're glad that the company would deem its big upcoming Wii title worthy as well.

I first played The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword a few month's ago at E3 2011, but it wasn't until my most recent play session that I began to fully grasp the grandeur of Link's next adventure. Earlier this week I had the chance to sit down with this game for about nine hours straight, to really get comfy with the new controls and new setting. I walked away more excited than ever to get my hands on what promises to be the most exciting new Zelda release in a very, very long time...

The newest trailer of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword had some interesting new footage in it. The most notable addition was a split-second image of a girl, pictured below, whose identity has yet to be revealed...

You know what I love about Nintendo games? It's those little extra touches that only Nintendo seems to care about. Case in point, check out this detail from when you actually get the Skyward Sword in Link's next adventure.

I had to twist my hand downward, then pull and point it upward. At that moment, Link and I were one, and I felt like a complete nerd.

It's something very minor, but it's that moment and gesture that really makes you connect with Link and his adventure. You're not just controlling Link, you are Link.

The Nielsen firm has compiled a list of the top twenty most anticipated games this holiday season. The survey ranks games based on the percentage of players that ranked them in their top five choices for the holiday. Unsurprisingly, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was at the top of the list, with fully 27 percent of those surveyed placing it in their top five.

Rounding out the top five, Gears of War 3 and Madden NFL 12 both pulled 19 percent, Assassin's Creed Revelations made 17 percent and Batman: Arkham City reached 15 percent. The holiday's major Wii exclusive, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword made the sixth slot with 14 percent. Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3's major competition, reached number seven at 12 percent. Also worth noting: Dead Island, at 7 percent, marks the only game on the entire list that isn't part of an established franchise.

The survey also includes a fascinating peak into the psyche of various players, making note of the online conversations surrounding each title. For example, Modern Warfare 3 fans are looking forward to launch parties, and Skyward Sword devotees are hoping to rekindle that old Ocarina of Time feeling. Madden armchair quarterbacks, meanwhile, are planning to call in sick in order to squeeze in a few more touchdowns.
