General changes

Robot Entertainment's semi-genocidal sequel, Orcs Must Die! 2, will launch on July 30, a blog post on Robot Entertainment's site reads.

#portal If you've played games like Team Fortress 2 or the Portal titles, you know that Valve loves making players learn. The company's already got a foothold in bringing their games into the educational space and that commitment's going to get bigger. More »

"Steam for Schools" is Valve's next push into edutainment. This summer, educators can apply for beta inclusion in the program, which includes a "limited version of Steam" featuring Portal 2, the game's level editor, and its workshop for hosting and organizing user-created levels. This new version of Steam will be free for educators (in and out of beta), and will give educators administrator access - meaning that kids cannot share levels.

The Washington-based company intends on opening up that level of access in the future, but Valve's Leslie Redd told attendees of today's Games for Change festival that "children need that walled garden." In the future, Valve hopes to allow more openness.

Valve isn't receiving any outside funding or grants for the program. "Valve is a commercially successful company," Redd explained with a smile. Of course, facilitating a massive education program for free is pretty great public relations. Other publishers aren't involved just yet, but Redd said there've been some initial talks.

For more information, Valve's "Teach with Portals" website is now open and will expand in the coming months.

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the Steam menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

Patch 3.2 is a UI modification for the PC version of The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition. The mod adds the following enhancements to the game. It can be used optionally by players when installed.

1. Minimap: Adds a north arrow.
2. HUD: (Optional) can select items from the radial menu without clicking; (Optional) combat crosshair.
3. Alchemy: Crafting slots show how much ingredients there are; better default ingredient selection (e.g., not having to filter out quest item ingredients all the time); (Optional) unrotate alchemy element symbols; saves custom ingredient selection for a formula (until you close the panel or go to another formula, but no longer resetting every time you create something).
4. Tooltips: Taller, and scroll faster.
5. Inventory/Trading/Storage: Sorting buttons (sort by time acquired, name, aggregate weight, aggegrate price.) Reversible sort also possible.
6. Trading: Places a checkmark next to books, formulas, and crafting diagrams that you already have in your inventory.
7. Crafting: Shows how many items you have instead of capping the number at how many are required. E.g., 30/3 instead of 3/3.
8. Other: Sorts some lists alphabetically: crafting, alchemy, elixirs.
