Mojang's ever vigilant effort to lull the entire world into a Minecraft-induced coma continues, with the studio considering even more platforms for the ubiquitous time-sink. Though Minecraft currently has an exclusivity deal on Xbox, Mojang's Jens Bergensten, lead designer on Minecraft, recently told iGamer that the team will consider PlayStation platforms whenever the deal lapses. Those with dreams of a GamePad-enabled Wii U version may be out of luck, however, as he added that a port for Nintendo's console is "very unlikely."

And so Joystiq lives in fear of a possible Vita version of Minecraft, in which we might lose Jess Conditt forever.

Capcom tells us the release dates for Lost Planet 3 are June 25 in North America, and June 28 in Europe. The game was previously earmarked for early 2013, but early 2013 has all but come and gone, so a delay isn't too surprising. Spark Unlimited's third-person shooter is a prequel to the events of the first game, despite it being called Lost Planet 3.

Developer Hardlight Studios let slip via quickly deleted tweets - which Sega Driven also spotted before they ran off - Sega's iOS endless runner Sonic Dash is making a midnight sprint for the App Store tonight. According to those deleted tweets, the game is priced $1.99 in the US, and £1.49 in the UK. That's backed up by Sonic Dash already being out in New Zealand, which traditionally gets App Store content hours ahead of other regions because of wibbly-wobbly time zone differentiation.

As the App Store gallery and description indicates, Sonic Dash is a fair bit reminiscent of the Temple Run formula, which to us seems fair enough since the blue hedgehog was doing the Temple Run thing as far back as Sonic Adventure. The description also reveals that, for those that can't get enough of the hog's critter chums, Sonic Dash lets you play as Tails, Amy, and Knuckles McGee (Knuckles for short).

Gabe Newell doesn’t just spend his time making himself look like Austrian Santa Claus – he also heads up gaming software titan Valve. And, soon, gaming hardware titan Valve. Their ‘Steambox‘ PC-as-a-console concept isn’t a secret anymore, and indeed Newell now claims the first units might well be in the wild within the next three to four months.(more…)

Capcom has announced the release date for Lost Planet 3, plus revealed the box art, pre-order bonuses and new plot details.

One of the many unhappy aspects of the death (sort of – the name still exists and I wouldn’t be terribly surprised to see it return in some form later on) of THQ is that it had several projects really very close to completion when the axe fell. Foremost, perhaps, of those were Metro: Last Light and snow-bound WW2 strategy game Company of Heroes 2, but fortunately (we hope) both have found new homes. Metro’s with Koch, and Company of Heroes 2 is with SEGA, as is all of Relic – making the house of hedgehog, who also own the Creative Assembly, an unlikely bastion of real-time strategy.

Sega has just announced Company of Heroes 2 will march to retail on June 25 in North America and Europe.

Company of Heroes and developer Relic Entertainment were the most expensive properties in the THQ asset auction earlier this year, going for $26.6 million. The studio and franchise almost ended up in the hands of Zenimax Media, the parent company of Bethesda Softworks (Fallout, Elder Scrolls), for $26.3 million.

"Our acquisition by Sega has given us the chance to work with a new partner that has a great track record of working with long standing PC franchises," said Company of Heroes 2 executive producer Jonathan Dowdeswell. "It gives us great confidence to know that we have a well aligned team working to bring the best experience we can to gamers around the world."

Sega is one of the few publishers supporting high-quality real-time strategy games in the market. The publisher is also responsible for the Total War franchise.

If you mind is keen, like the edge of a freshly sharpened bayonet, you will remember top-down real-time tactics game Running With Rifles. That game is still in development, of course, but that development is bearing the fruit of considerable progress. Not only does it look at least twice as fetching as it looked the last time I used my eyes on it, but it also now boasts co-op stealth happenings, as you can see in a new video, below. Developer Pasi Kainiemi explains: ” We got into playing RWR all sneaky and set out to find the enemy comms truck. Wasteland 2 is still early, but Brian Fargo's inXile Entertainment has just launched another Kickstarter, this time for Torment: Tides of Numenera, the Planescape: Torment-inspired role-playing game set in the world of the Kickstarted tabletop RPG Numenera.

Torment: Tides of Numenera is a single-player RPG in which you play a "single, specific character" joined by NPCs. As the "Last Castoff," the last incarnation of the Changing God, you find yourself hunted by the "Angel of Entropy" in a world full of mysterious, magical ruins. You can read much, much more about the storyline and setting on the Kickstarter page.

Torment is being developed in Unity for release on PC, Mac, and Linux. In its first morning, the drive has already exceeded $86,000 of its $900,000 goal, with the total rapidly growing. inXile has proven to be good at Kickstarter - or its fans just that ravenous for old-school RPGs - as it raised over $3 million for Wasteland 2.

Once upon a time, flight simulators were the single most exciting aspect of PC gaming. First-person perspectives were the bleeding edge of software entertainment and, at that point, sticking a gun in that first person-perspective had yet to achieve the total dominance it has now. (A first-person perspective never was the only way to play a flight sim, of course, but at the time it seemed like the most thrilling one, as the skies and clouds hurtled across peripheral vision, the ground loomed and zoomed dangerously into sight and rival planes threatened to fly directly into our eyeballs.)

I thought, even post-Wolfenstein, that flying a pretend aeroplane was the single most exciting concept I’d ever heard of. Apart from flying a real aeroplane, anyway.(more…)

This week's wave of Gold-exclusive Xbox Live Arcade deals rustles up four Sega fighters, including the AM2 trio re-released a few months back.
