During a recent investor Q&A, legendary developer Shigeru Miyamoto fielded questions regarding Nintendo's strategies for growing its internal development teams, and how he can effectively nurture his employees without taking away from his own work. In light of recent events, in which a comment to an online outlet lead to false reports of his retirement spreading like wildfire, Miyamoto answered the question carefully...

During a recent investor Q&A, the observation was brought up to Nintendo President Satoru Iwata that the 3DS has seen significant growth in popularity among those who classify themselves as "hardcore" gamers. The system's adoption among the casual audience, however, has been much slower, largely due to the relative lack of software that would appeal to that kind of player...

From a distance, Nintendo would appear to be in some serious trouble. After stumbling with the launch of the 3DS, being forced to prematurely cut the portable's price tag, fumbling the introduction of Wii U, not offering enough quality titles for much of 2011 and forecasting $838 million in losses ...

Nintendo and Japanese telecom company NTT are working together on a voice recognition project, aimed at making it easier for students with hearing or other disabilities to keep up in classrooms.

The project, which NHK reports is undergoing trials in Okinawa and Tottori Prefecture, captures instructor speech, converts it to text, and saves it to the cloud while also sending it to devices -- like the DSi. That way, students can read along, and have an automatic record of lessons. See it in action in the video on NHK's site.

The downside to this plan, of course, is that it creates a situation in which a student is expected to be paying very close attention to his or her DS in the back of the classroom -- a situation ripe for abuse of the Retro Game Challenge variety.

It seems there may be even more to Nintendo's next generation of home consoles, the Wii U, than we initially thought. According to Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono, Wii U's features have advanced since its E3 2011 reveal, which wasn't necessarily an accurate representation of everything the system will offer upon release...

One of the many complaints levied at Nintendo in the aftermath of its E3 2011 reveal of the Wii U was that the system's name simply wasn't good enough. Although few faulted the publisher for wanting to retain its powerful Wii branding, many wondered if 'Wii U' would confuse consumers rather than make them immediately understand a new console was on the market. According to the latest rumor moving through the industry, Nintendo might now be reconsidering its naming strategy...

You can hate or love SOPA, call yourself a hardcore Republican or Democrat, or prefer vegetable oil to butter. No matter how you identify, you will no doubt laugh your face off watching a former presidential primary candidate sing the entirety of the theme song from Pokemon: The Movie 2000. Herman Cain did just that last Friday afternoon during Stephen Colbert's Charleston, South Carolina faux political rally, much to the delight of people everywhere on the planet.

What does this have to do with video games? In all honesty, not very much, but we know how hard life can be -- sometimes it seems impossible. It's never easy when there's so much on the line, but you can make a difference. And Herman Cain is here to share that message, in song.

In late 2009, Nintendo put five demos for WiiWare games on the Wii Shop Channel, though, inexplicably, it was a limited-time deal, and they all went away on January 31. Then, in late 2010 (and also inexplicably) the program returned, and WiiWare demos started trickling in at the rate of one a week. These were also intended as limited-time offers, which continued not to make any damn sense.

Now, in the crowning moment of weirdness for the service, all 50 demos that were previously offered in North America are now available on the Wii Shop in a "demo" section found within the selection of WiiWare "genres," with no explanation at all. Of all the bizarre moves related to this service, this is the one we can most wholeheartedly support.

Go try some demos! Lilt Line, And Yet It Moves, Bit.Trip Beat, and more are there to sample. Use your downloads to send Nintendo the incredibly obvious message that people like demos.
